Soseito
According to package tracking Rasputina and Lilith are going to be arriving at my house by the end of the week. In preparation/celebration I am posting some of my prior works to get in the mood for a lot of time spent painting. Here are two of my minis for the legion of ever blight army for the hordes game. My camera is terrible at taking pictures of minis, but I'm working on it. The tiny one is called a shredder and the larger one is called a carnivean. Here is my first conversion, a daemon prince of nurgle from warhammer 40k. It was also my first attempt at basing . Note to future self: Do not put glue on the sides of the base. Bad idea. Here is a mini that I was converting for a custom warhammer army (that got scrapped >_<). It was originally a werewolf lord(?) from the dnd minis line. It was also my first time using green stuff. And a close up of the collar This one is a ork warboss from warhammer 40k that started worshiping khorne. While I do not like orks I am rather proud of my work on this guy. Particularly the symbol of khorne. A WIP shot of my dark eldar archon. Never did get around to making a second whip arm. And finally, my first FINISHED custom mini. This was a headless horseman created for a custom warhammer 40k army. Making this thread has made me realize just how many half finished projects are laying around my work room. I will update this thread as I finish them. Edited October 5, 2011 by kannachan
Soseito
The packages arrived last night and are all ready to be primed. I'll start on that tonight when I get home from work and should have some ready to be painted come tomorrow. It turns out I am a dangerous person when trimming off flush. I clipped off the bottom chunk under a model's feet and it shot across the room, through the doorway, and nailed my cat (who was sleeping on my desk) on the other side of the next room. Poor kitty. Soseito
My girlfriend finished painting up Lilith last night while I was out at the movies with a friend. And here she is I am currently painting my Rasputina. I have just primed her and are waiting for it to dry. Also, I managed to finish some of my hordes minis. Yes that shredder is pink. Heather (said girlfriend) thought it would be cute to have a pink shredder and thus the legend of the pink shredder was born. Soseito
After an unfortunate swimming lesson for my computer I have returned with some updates. I am experimenting with various basing ideas because up until now all I have ever done is glue sand or tea onto the bases. The base is made from green stuff and used coffee grinds. I am hoping it will look something similar to a snowy base with ice chunks. And here we have the finished version. For a person with my skill level I think I did fairly good. Here is a pic of one of my gamilins showing the base in various stages of completion. And lastly, here is my ice golem (still a work in progress) on his new base (also a work in progress). I am currently working on how to make snow for my bases. I don't think the ground should be a plain brown. If anyone has any helpful suggestions or criticism please feel free to let me know. Maniple
Always good to see someone getting caught up on their minis. On your camera, see if there is a button that looks like a little flower (macro setting or something). If you push this it will allow you to focus on close up things and take better pictures of minis.
CubertFarnsworth
Hats off to getting creative with your bases and your materials. But you may want to rethink the notion of using organic materials for basing. Organic materials rot over time...even if you paint them, they still do. And I know that it is just on the base.....but FYI.
Ghiest1
I do like the green lining on her cloak for the Lillith model, it contrasts well for the pale flesh tone. As fo rthe pink shredder, I have seen a army painted in pink entirely of that faction, it was done for breast cancer awareness, so not a bad idea! Soseito
The sad thing is that I am using the macro function om my camera :sadpuppet1. Getting a new camera is definitely on my to-do list. And as for the matter of organic matter (bad pun not intended) rotting on my bases: All I have to say is eh. The grinds probably wont rot for at least another few months. In the event that they do I hope to be able to create much better bases by then. Thanks for the heads up regardless. edit: Does anyone have any suggestions for a good camera? Mine is from the era of early digital and does not like close up photos. Soseito
After two days I was able to get my desolation engine to a point where I was satisfied with the way it looked. Last night while I was at work hather decided to suprise me and pain up one of my hollow waifs. I think she came out quite nice. Today a princess (Aurora model prisoner princess) and the Leveticus box arrived (and my twisting fates book, yay). I also have the pandora, seamus, and zoraida boxes coming in the mail. With that and all the cryx minis I still have to prime and paint it looks like I'm going to be busy for a while. Soseito
Just an update: I am currently bogged down under an avalanche of little metal people and have no idea where to begin. For now I am just lightly gluing minis to a base. Once I get much better at basing then I will pop them off and make something nice for them. Here is a brief rundown of my current work list. Warhammer 40K Need to assemble a dark eldar archon's second whip Warmachine paint 3 slayer helljacks paint 3 death ripper bonejacks Paint 2 defiler bonejacks paint 1 war witch Deneghra warcaster Paint and assemble 1 scavenger bone jack paint 1 Goreshade the bastard warcaster Paint and assemble 1 bane thrall officer Paint and assemble 1 bane thrall standard Finally reattach the stupid spine on Bane lord tartarus Paint and assemble all 3 members of the withershadow combine Paint all 4 members of the witch coven of garlghast Malifaux Finish the second layer of paint on the ice golem Base 3 terror tots Assemble and paint the Leveticus box Paint and assemble 4 more steampunk abominations Paint and assemble the Seamus box Paint and assemble the Pandora box Paint and assemble the Zoraida box Paint and assemble the (old) avatar Pandora Paint and assemble the (non-nightmare) teddy I also need to purchase more primer and green stuff. In the next coming week or two I am going to be getting into casting using the instant mold stuff. If that goes well then I will be making some very strange looking conversions. I always loved to convert my minis but I do not have the skill to do it manually with greenstuff. And just so this post isn't naked here are some photos of three minis heather painted recently. The minis are my two remaining hollow waifs and the princess model. Heather is currently working on a homebrew rule set for the mini saying that she is Lilith's daughter. We dont plan on playing in tourneys so I think the homebrew is a good thing for her to do. Edited October 5, 2011 by kannachan
Soseito
Just a mini update: I just got two 40k chaos marine sprues in the mail from Denmark. Add that to the to do list. Yay mini exchange programs!
Soseito
Heres an upload of last nights work. This is the first version of my Doom bases. I plan to make some stuff from doom to use as homebrew minis. I have the doom board games for inspiration. I was thinking of starting with a imp or revenant (the rocket launching skeleton in boxing shorts). This is the beginnings of the bases for my sllurids . I currently do not have any water effects but when I do get some I plan to put it over the blue spots.
Maniple
Silurid bases look pretty cool. Keep it up!
Soseito
Does anyone know how I can make the bases look more like mud? I was thinking of using lighter and darker shades of brown in various places. Two of my recently finished battle chickens. (Warmachine defilier and deathripper) Here we have the front of a slayer (Warmachine again) And the back. I finally figured out why cat hair keeps getting into all my minis. Soseito
Batteries are shot in my camera, But I'm updating anyway. I finished making the sllurid bases and the sllurids themselves.
Soseito
I see to have lost my camera somewhere in my room. I just finished two more of my Warmachine slayers. Currently working on a chaos marine(WH40K) and Goreshade the bastard(Warmachine)
Soseito
I finally found my camera again. Update time! I finished my old dark archon. Instead of another agoniser, I decided to give him a chain whip and have it count as an agoniser. Here is a simple concrete wall. Here is some organic overgrowth terrain. The empty patches in the middle will eventually be filled in with water effects. And now for a close-up of the island in the middle.
Vinncent
'organic overgrowth terrain' is awesome! i like the bases for sllurids too :congrats:
Soseito
Thank you for the praise According to heather the third picture of the organic overgrowth looks like a spider in a deflated quiche. :damnit:

Soseito
I have them uploaded through photobucket and can view them just fine. It could be you. or perhaps some weird computer glitch. I just remembered to upload the rest of my photos into the computer so here we go. Here is an alternate paint idea for my death rippers. And here is it next to one of my other rippers. Which paint style do you think looks better? Here is the shot of my sllurids. I still dont have any water effects yet. Kinda blurry but here is my derpy-looking teddy. It seems a little lacking in my opinion. However that is because I didn't really want to paint it and kinda did a rush job. Soseito
Hello all. I'm still alive as it would seem. I went from working two months without a day off to having no job at all so I've been a little busy. Now that I have more free time on my hands I plan to get this thread up and moving again. If not tonight than tomorrow I'll have some nice new pictures to show everyone.
Soseito
I just found out today that I start my new job on Monday. Now that I know my free time has a fast approaching deadline I plan to crank out as many paint jobs as I can without getting sloppy. Here we have the starting of a Warmachine unit called The Withershadow Combine. And here we have A Bane Thrall Officer & Standard, some flying unit I cant remember the name of, and just so it isn't all Warmachine I started on Mr. Juju. I still have a handful of Warmachine minis to finish and than all that's left is malifaux. I should be starting on them in two or three days providing I dont fall into my usual trap of ooh shiny :banghead: On a sadder note one of my cats knocked over my drawers containing my minis and most of them shattered. I was able to rebuild them all with only one casualty. One of the horns from a model's helmet vanished.
