Mako
I always thought that cat owners should be legally required to video themselves tying to get their cats into carry boxes and put it online for the nation's amusement.

Nikko Andass
Morning all, what's new? Nice looking crew Nikko. Monkey, that is way too much Dust stuff, looks awesome. Thank you kindly, SH.
Nikko Andass
Hiya, Ed. Good, thanks. Still working away on Sidir -- about 75% done, I'd say.

edonil
Hey, tmod, we can see you there. How are you?
Nikko Andass
Yeah, pretty well. The color scheme I chose (deep violet-blue robes and white sash) are based on the traditional Sikh chola, which is the religious warrior garb Sikh men wear for ceremonies, feast days, and, you know, killin' stuff that needs killin'. Anyway, not entirely pleased with the way the color is turning out -- still too much on the purplely side to suit me.
edonil
Hm. What colors are you using for the blend?
Nikko Andass
Well, since I don't have a lot of specific colors, I end up mixing most of what I use. My dark base was a pthalo blue and naptha red -- very deep plum. Then I step it up with a medium base of true blue and naptha red. Highlights are true blue, a bit of my medium base, and a dab of white. I'm thinking I may end up dry brushing with that last one, with the white turned up a bit more. edonil
I'd actually suggest tossing in some grey at that medium base, honestly. It might help mellow out that red some.
Nikko Andass
I'd actually suggest tossing in some grey at that medium base, honestly. It might help mellow out that red some. Yep, I was thinking that gray might deepen the tone, without making it too dark, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for the tip!
edonil
Be warned, it might not help, lol. I just know it will do things differently than if you use white.
Nikko Andass
I shall use it with care.
edonil
I tend to bug Mako when I need specific painting advice, lol. Otherwise I just experiment with stuff to get the right impact. I've got a few techniques I've learned over the years that I've not seen anyone else use, but the effect is great so I keep it.
Nikko Andass
I've seen him on the thread, but he's always on when I'm not. Got to say, I'm more than just a little intimidated about pestering someone that scary-good for painting tips (not that you pester him). I'm sure he gets a bit swarmed on occasion. edonil
All depends on how you ask. Don't be a jerk demanding that he answer your questions, he'll give you some pointers. Usually best to ask in his painting thread, I'd say.
Nikko Andass
I have to lay off the wet blending on this fig -- could get me tossed into the "advanced" category, not that I'm that good at it. It'd be like entering a member of the boy's Jr. high school swim team in the Olympics. Just a smidgen outclassed ...
edonil
oh, he doesn't do wet blending, lol. I've talked with him about it before, we both think it's slightly nutty...
Mister Monkey
Nutty wet blending? maybe use smooth peanut butter instead of crunchy
Nikko Andass
I've got some Mithril minis that I've used it on with some success. When I get around to snapping some more pics, I'll show them to you.
