edonil
Heh, you should see some of the crazy crap I did with my fighter/cleric/warcaster. No arcane powers, but could challenge an adult red dragon to a fight and win.
SteamHammer
Every adventure needs some large area anti-magic fields or at least wild magic zones. Put off those power gamers who have parties comprised of mages and clerics switching roles as they see fit. Or find another system I guess. edonil
That would've been hilarious for my two characters that had magic.
Mister Monkey
Dont think, I have ever really played a full on magic user.... fighter/cleric is about the closest I got.
SteamHammer
Haven't done any role playing since high school which is a long time ago. I think I was either a fighter or cleric most of the time. In those days dual classing was way too much of a pain.
edonil
I've had a Jedi lightsaber/sorceror (first character ever, so convoluted and ended up so terrible... >.<), a gun mage (ton of fun) and the above warcaster (who was a deliberate attempt to break the system...coulda done it better still). The last two characters have been purely no magic of any kind and very interesting because of it. ---------- Post added at 04:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:36 AM ---------- Dual classing got really easy in 3.5 and then horrendously impossible in 4th... SteamHammer
2nd was the last one I played. Although I think the computer games like NWN were 3.5, so I did dual classing in those every so often.
edonil
Yeah, Neverwinter was very much a 3.0/3.5 game. I played Neverwinter Nights 2, lots of fun.
SteamHammer
I wish I had the spare time to replay all of them.
edonil
I wish that Windows 7 didn't completely make Neverwinter Nights 2 unplayable...
SteamHammer
I did not know that. But I'm sure my brother has Windows 7 and has played it recently. I'll need to ask him how if I ever get around to playing it again. I wonder if the GOG version works without any extra patching.
edonil
No idea, unfortunately. I just played through XCOM, I know I'm holding off on jumping into any other games until I get something hobby done...hopefully writing. ---------- Post added at 04:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:50 AM ---------- So, what're you reading, Steam? SteamHammer
Mageborn the line of Illeniel and Lirael. Both good so far.
edonil
What'd you think of Sabriel?
SteamHammer
Pretty good but seemed to skip quite a lot. Could have done with being longer to flesh out the characters more.
edonil
Yeah. I always wanted to see more of Sabriel and Touchstone in the end, honestly. Mogget shows up more in the other two, so that's a good thing. Where are you at in Lirael?
SteamHammer
Just summoned Dog and defeated the beastie in the library.
edonil
Gotcha, good part in the story. I like the Dog, she's fun. Wonderfully mysterious character in a lot of ways.

edonil
I'm just finishing up Execution Hour at the moment, after that I'm probably going to jump back into Double Eagle. Never got around to it last time I tried to read it. From there, I'm thinking the first Kris Longknife book. ---------- Post added at 05:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:12 AM ---------- Right now, I'm really enjoying the Writing Excuses podcast...it's neat to be able to hear different parts of writing discussed by such a wide array of writing types. SteamHammer
I listed to a few of those in the past and they were entertaining even though I don't write.
edonil
Definitely some good stuff in there if you enjoying writing/reading as a hobby. Interesting lens to view things through. Although listening to one of the episodes made me realize that I've thrown myself into writing a character driven epic novel, not the regular novel I thought I had...means I need to step up my game more than I thought. ---------- Post added at 05:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:20 AM ---------- So what's the other one you're reading? I'm not familiar with that book.
SteamHammer
This one http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12830117-the-line-of-illeniel Must have been in a Kindle daily deal at some point. The first book was a nice fun read and finished that last night. Just started book 2.
