SteamHammer
Two weeks since my last game and no miniature painting since the end of the paintathon. I'm getting withdrawal symptoms. Scenery making doesn't scratch that itch.
edonil
That's no good, Steam! Need to find something else to work on in the meantime. How's you?
SteamHammer
I have plenty of things to paint, I just thought I could have a break from it. Turns out I miss it. Maybe once I finish the swamp scenery I'll paint a model before moving onto the next location. I'll try and get some more scenery done tonight. Absolution Black
Hello my Hobby-fuelled friends! Well, I seem to be swamped in projects at the moment...I have come to the theory that I am going to build everything I want/need to before I even consider picking up a paintbrush. That way when i eventually get the time to do some painting I have the pick of minis to choose from and can alternate, so i dont get bored of just space marines etc.. So on the construction timetable for the next couple of months: Raven Guard/White Scars marine army...just need to build a couple of attack bikes and a Stormtalon. Lady Justice : Build 2 exorcists, the alt , the avatar and scales of justice. Lilith: Build alt, avatar and the waldgeist Lucas McCabe: just waiting to receive this crew, then to build them! Warriors of Chaos: Build a few skullcrushers The Hobbit: got the ltd ed box to build, plus scenery Grey knights: A part project with my brother so probably won't have much to build, lots of Purifiers probably! And thats my next few months lol!
SteamHammer
No progress from before. Piers and counters (effigies and soul stone bags) are done. Swamp tiles (hexes) and edges are half done. In other words they're brown but I want to add some green wash to places, scatter on some flock etc. And the tree is still in the early stages. ---------- Post added at 09:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:36 AM ---------- Morning Abs. Still avoiding the painting.
edonil
How was the scenery, Abs? from the Hobbit, I mean. Sounds like you have some good stuff going, Steam!
SteamHammer
So what are you up to Ed? Painting dropships?
edonil
Not quite yet. Just finished reading through the rules tonight, quite excited to try playing it. I don't have anything yet to start working with, although I have some Praetorians and Ravens coming. ---------- Post added at 05:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:24 AM ---------- And because those are just names...Praetorians are special forces infantry, while Ravens are light dropships. I got them cause I love the idea of infantry doing rope drops on top of roofs from airships, lol. Just something cinematically awesome about it. SteamHammer
Sounds fun. Maybe one year I'll be flush with money and have a look at it.
edonil
Yeah...I'm only able to afford it because I'm not doing anything else, and I found a good place to get it cheap. But, it'll be a while before I get anything more than this stuff. On the upside, Through the Breach is looking better and better!
edonil
So, what're you thinking of painting first, Steam?
SteamHammer
I'm not sure when I'll ever get a chance at that as I know even less roleplayers than I do wargamers. But who knows what the future will bring.
edonil
Well, we're still recruiting for an OTT Skype game, if you're interested.
SteamHammer
Too much like multiplayer computer games where it becomes a second job having to be there at certain times without fail. But thanks for the offer.
edonil
Fair enough. ---------- Post added at 05:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:57 AM ---------- What've you been reading of late? Anything good?
SteamHammer
Finished off the Immortals series. Reading book 2 of the Mongoliad which continues to be fun. I'll probably start the next part of Dance with Dragons next. You?
edonil
I just finished Furious, the next of the Kris Longknife books. They continue to be quite entertaining, that's for sure! I'm not sure if I've got anything else on my reading list, but I'm still working my way through the Babylon 5 show. ---------- Post added at 06:06 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:05 AM ---------- what'd you think of Kitten's relatives?
SteamHammer
I need to get more of the Longknife ones as I enjoyed book 1. I also need the next of the Galaxy Unknown ones as book 1 of that was good too. Nice fun books to read in between the the huge epic novels. ---------- Post added at 11:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:08 AM ---------- what'd you think of Kitten's relatives? The dragons were great characters. In fact, most of the immortals were.
edonil
Galaxy Unknown? Similar to the Longknife books at all? ---------- Post added at 06:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:09 AM ---------- And yeah, most of the immortals were great fun. That was a great one of the series.
SteamHammer
Yes, maybe a bit dumber (judging just by book 1) but a real page turner. It was one of those where I basically read the entire second half of the book in one night as I wanted to see what happened next.
edonil
Sounds like some of the 40k books, which isn't a bad thing.
SteamHammer
Way more fun than the ones I've read of those. Never yet found a great GW book. They're all just ok so far.
edonil
Read the Eisenhorn or Ravenor books? Those were fun. And Pariah was a blast, never read a book with a mystery that complex... At least, not a good one that did it on purpose.
SteamHammer
Not read any of those. So maybe I've just read the wrong GW ones.
