edonil
Oh, the work continues on yet. Another week of work after the semester is over... You have to work Christmas Eve? That's no fun. How long off do you get?
Mister Shine
Uh oh, are you mad I only responded to my KS once a day too Mako?
Mako
I think the uni shuts at lynchtime on the 24th and then it's one of two things. Either it's shut til the 2nd, or it's only closed 25,26 and 1. In England it's shut from the 23rd to the 3rd usually, but I have no idea about over here! ---------- Post added at 02:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:41 AM ---------- Ooh, typo. Lynchtime. When you can gamble and have a snack too...
edonil
Heh, nice pun. Gonna have to remember that one. Well, here's hoping you get some decent time off!
Mako
Honestly, even just a couple of days would be nice. It means shutting down any work going on (oh, I wish there was some to shut down) before the break, and taking time to set it all again afterward. We worked out in my last lab doing viral research, it took at least a week to shut down fully and two or more to get going again. A week off took out the whole month! edonil
Not really got a lot going on at the lab, then? That's too bad, you're a ways into it, aren't you?
Mako
Yeah, four months and sod all progress. It's driving me insane, I'm not built for sitting about with nothing to do! Is lucky I have a long term contract so I don't have to worry about renewal really, isn't it. Oh wait, no I don't...
edonil
...wait, what? You lost me on that last one.
Mako
I'm on a one year contract renewal. In April, I have to submit a report to get the funding continued into the second year. But even more fun, I have to try and get a new contract out of the university by the end of feb so I can renew my work permit. And they won't like doing that without progress and renewed funding... Mister Shine
Or take the university with your army of racigeons
Mako
Sadly, that might not help me get a contract extension...
edonil
Oh, that'd be a terrible mess...that's not good. Do you want to try for another contract in Canada, or no?
Mako
Well, if I can't get this contract renewed in time, I'd have to leave the country while they redid my permit, and it would cost me a fortune. So if that all goes pear shaped and I have to return home, I won't be able to afford to come back! And my work permit only covers me to work for the Uni, so if I got a different job I'd have to replace it before I could start work. It's a total and utter fiasco in many ways! edonil
Oof. Well, hopefully it all gets worked out!
Mako
Well, I've reduced it to a simple set of rules. If the uni doesn't provide me a contract by the end of February, I'll be going back to England. If they do, I stay (unless I have a job in England that I want to take)
edonil
Well, that makes sense.
Mako
That way I don't have to fuss with all the details, I simply take the option that screws me about the least!
edonil
Heh, good methodology with that. So, how long is this current contract for?
Mako
Due to a delay in my visa and a premature contract, my work contract goes to the end of July but my work visa goes to the end of June...
edonil
...weird. That's definitely a bit odd. No wonder you're going nuts!
Mako
Basically, the whole thing from start to finish has been a bit of a chaotic disaster lol
edonil
Well, either way, you need to get down here one time before you leave for England, whether this contract or next, lol.
Mako
Lol, I'll still be on this one in may next year thankfully! Knowing the way the uni have behaved so far, I have some doubts about them getting organised to sort out my contracts heh.
edonil
Well, unfortunately I'm not sure about being able to make it out to NJ in May anymore... started doing the math, and not liking it, lol. But still, I'm thinking a 'cross borders' tournament should still happen. Or if the Through the Breach beta happens, you and Shine come down and we do a weekend campaign with locals or something.
