Stupidcow
I'm currently painting up Bregan of the apostates of darkness from Rackham. This is my 3rd attempt the previous two ended up in the thinner pot. I have more or less settled on the 3rd color scheme. I have also shifted the directional lighting from top (1st) to right (2nd & 3rd). Now I'm abit stuck as to what colour to use for that dead body strapped onto him. I'm thinking something purplish but can't be sure. So can someone please advice me on that and also tell me if any of the previous attempts were better that the 3rd. I'm still able to make some changes if it isn't too drastic. Many thanks!
gi6ers
Looks like a challenge to get a contrast between the dead body and the flesh on the big guy...using purples is probably your best bet.
Skya
I actually really like the metallics on the second one, though the blended blue to red skirt just didn't look right at all. As for the dead guy I'd go with a bluish grey with purpley shadow tones.
tallghost
I think the armor AND the skirt on the second one look cool. I like the fade from blue to red because it makes him look as though he's been ankle deep in gore all day. Maybe if you were to bloody up his feet a bit too, the look would come across better? And I'm going to thrid or fourth or whatever the call for some purples/ blues on the corpse.
Stupidcow
Thanks for the advices. I went ahead with blue /purple since everyone seems to agree on that colour. Here's another wip with the corpse painted up.
AoM
I think having paler skin with a touch of a flesh tone worked in would help. Right now, he looks like a blue skinned person, and that doesn't fit into the Rackham races. Going to more of a really pale skin with blue undertones to it would help with the drained corpse look. lauth81
agreed. would go for a more pale look.
Stupidcow
I was kinda worried about the corpse clashing with the skintone of the main guy. It does looked a little too blue atm. I'll get it sorted out when I have time to paint again.
Stupidcow
I painted abit more this evening taking the suggestions above. I've also fixed on the arm with the weapon. I posted a short write up on my blog from the time I started painting him till how I ended up with this version. Once again I welcome all of you to take a look when you're free and offer my any suggestions or critics. I'll be leaving early tomorrow morning for Bangkok and will be back by Saturday in case you don't get my reply on this thread. At this time you may steal my arcade tiles before I come back at you hehe.
Stupidcow
I've almost finished painting this guy up and currently working on the base. I'll like to hear some comments on what is done so far. So fire away!
tallghost
dude, 'almost finished' with the base? I'm no expert, but it looks like a big ol' cork to me. You put alot of work in on the mini and made him look cool. put a little mroe work in on the base....
gi6ers
pop! Very cool, NMM is spot on. Agree with Tallghost on thr base though, bit too 'corky'..
Stupidcow
What I meant is the figure is almost done, and that I'm working on the base for him. Of course the base wouldn't be that "corky".
