Turn 1: The Ronin and Ashes and Dust moved up the right flank. The Student pushes to the Leyline, drops a scheme and gives Hans fast. Hans has no targets so walks and double focuses to setup for next turn. Mad Dog heads towards the middle dropping a scheme to get fast next turn. The Viks head to the left flank over by the left most Leyline. Misaki, Dawn Serpent, Shang, and Torakage also head to the right. Fuhatsu moves up onto some Ht 2 terrain taking up an over watch position. Tanuki hands out Focus to Fuhatsu. Minako summons a Katashiro and heads up the left flank. Lodestone Models: Student of Conflict, Tanuki 0-0 Turn 2: Misaki calls some Thunder down on A&D. Dawn Serpent moves next to the right most Leyline and Focuses. Minako summons another Katashiro. Tanuki gives Fuhatsu another focus. Fuhatsu throws the Loadstone to Torakage and fires at Mad Dog who has cover, with Def 7 the shot misses. Torakage moves into base with the right most Leyline. One Ronin throws the Lodestone off the Student to Mad Dog. Hans focus shoots (within 14”) Dawn Serpent twice, missing the second shot, but managing a Severe of 5 on a straight damage flip. A&D charges through terrain and kills Dawn Serpent. Mad Dog runs and guns, shoots at Minako and ends up missing and gaining Minako’s upgrade, then moves to base with center Loadstone. The Viks drop scheme markers and get into an aggressive position in cover to start approach on Fuhatsu. One Vik deals 4 damage with her Custom Firearm to the left flank Katashiro. Loadstone Models: Torakage, Mad Dog 1-1 (Strat, strat) Turn 3: Misaki charges and kills A&D spawning the Ashen Core and Dust Storm. Misaki commands Torakage to charge the Ashen Core. Torakage, a Katashiro, and Shang all take down the Ashen Core. Fuhatsu fires at the Vik Master and does 4 damage total after reduction. The Torakage uses the Reposition trigger to move away from the Ashen Core some. Dust Storm is summoned on the left flank just over 6” from enemy deployment and walks into the zone. Student places a marker and gives Hans fast again. Hans walks and shoots twice killing the Katashiro who finished the Ashen Core on the right flank. Mad Dog kills the left flank Katashiro and places a scheme marker which gets removed by Tanuki. Viks are forced to scheme again and Vik Leader gets a charge attack that misses Fuhatsu. One Ronin throws the Lodestone from Mad Dog to the other Ronin, who walks towards the left Leyline. Loadstone Models: Torakage, Ronin 2 3-2 (Strat, Spread Them Out v Strat) Turn 4: Misaki takes the Vik Leader to 2 health. Tanuki removes all Shielded conditions from both Viks and puts Poison +2 on Vik Leader. Minako deals 5 damage to Mad Dog. The Torakage moves into base with the Center Leyline. Viks chain activate and using a couple Mask triggers end up killing Fuhatsu and putting a couple damage on Misaki. Mad Dog fails to disengage from Minako. The Ronin each drop a scheme marker and move towards the TT Deployment Leyline. The Student makes Hans fast again, Hans double walks within 6” of Torakage on center marker and fires once, flipping the Red Joker for damage killing the 4 health Torakage. Loadstone gets transferred to Minako. Dust Storm puts schemes in deployment. Loadstone Models: Minako, Ronin 2 VP 5-2 (Strat, both schemes vs Strat) Turn 5: Misaki kills Mad Dog. Minako moves to block the Ronin 2’s path to get to the 4th Leyline. Viks kill Tanuki and place scheme markers for Breakthrough. Dust Storm moves into base with 4th Leyline (other side from Minako). Hans and the Student run back towards Outcast deployment. Ronin 2 Final Sacrifices to bounce the Loadstone to Ronin 1, Ronin 1 Final Sacrifices to bounce the Loadstone to the Dust Storm. Loadstone Models: Minako, Dust Storm VP 7-3 (Strat, Breakthrough 2, Spread vs Strat, Vendetta) Final Thoughts: I’ve had previous games with Mad Dog OOK where his blown apart markers really annoyed a Misaki player, but this game none of that happened. I’m not sure he’s worth the 11 stones vs Misaki. The Ronin were amazing pushing all around and being right where they needed to be for the Loadstones. They never saw combat! Also both Ronin sacrificing themselves to throw the Loadstone on T5 was definitely not planned, but ended up being sick. The Student was clutch giving Fast to Hans. It really gave him much more flexibility and reach to keep his influence on the field. This was my first game with Hans and he didn’t disappoint. Even with 2 enemy models having Stealth he was still worth his stones. Ashes and Dust adequately held up the TT models on the right while the Ronin and Viks rotated to the left and schemed/focused on Leylines. Being able to get Breakthrough with Dust Storm so easily is just goofy! And finally, The Viks felt like expensive Scheme runners for a while, but turned it on when they needed to to kill Fuhatsu and the Tanuki. They definitely aren’t the murder bots from 2E but they’re very quick and can cut down models if they’re both paired up, especially with some Masks.
