Why would you lose the sandworm's self-bury?

Hint: just beat the sand worm down to 1 hp in your deployment zone, then heal up and bury to your heart's content!

Sand Worm is HtW no HtK so too risky and too many actions.

The top Arcanist player from Love is a battlefield played arcanists again this month, just instead of their 3-0 record, they got 2-2 this time. (And I checked, the losses weren't to explorers).

Don't take too serius, it was a joke. Anyway, the top Arcanist from New Year Retribution didn't play this tournament and we have the TOP 1 and 2 Arcanist players (Plaag and David) who switched to Explorers and Neverbron.

  3. Guild is supposed to be a faction of killers (Family, Marshal, Frontier, Witch Hunters...) So a HtW keywords are pretty strong because most of the time you go with min. damage even if you are focus.

Also VS is a very mobile keyword, has tech against armour (our big def. tech) and they can be fast so easy.

  5. So the new event is on the way. 4 new maps and maybe a new GG2 if they are release during the event.

Who will join the Guild files to keep the order in Malifuax?

  6. Well i horrible lost 8-1 with Basse v. Shenlong. I didn't take pics and i think i want to forget the game.

Fuhatsu and Shenlong blow Basse very hard (First shoot with Fuhatsu was the Red Joker to damage with Critical Strike, so 8 damage to Basse when we had the deck full).

Basse has no card draw (and Shenlong has) so with all the Chi for +2 to duels make the keyword imposible to beat. If you add to the mix an insane capacity of healing and some bad decisions i took on T1 we have a horrible lost.

Anyway my rival played very well and take right decisions each turn.

Special mention to 2 BJ to damage agains Fuhatsu (one with :+flip to damage and amour piercing) from Pathfinder that would killed Fuhatsu or let him with 1 wound (i'm not sure now).

I believe it, it's a terrible scheme. But I'd still rather play it than Claim Jump into Public Enemies when the best models to score it are both non-stone users who cost 9+ in a very linear crew.

Though a Guardian chucking a Warden in for the first point would be cheeky... yeah, I'd consider that.

If you want a funny game change wardens for 3 watchers. So you give fast to Guardian and 2 watcher and then Toss all of them + 14" MV and interact.

So you can drop 3 schemes anywhere.

I wouldn't play Hoffman into that. And if I did and saw McMourning... woof.

You're right, if my back is against the wall like that I probably take Melissa, two Wardens, three Hunters and a Medical Automata or watcher. I take Runic Binding and Vendetta and just try to outmaneuver.

Well i picked Hoffman and i won 6-1.

Sure, and if you over invest in beaters you're locking yourself into a bad gameplan.

And I'm just not impressed with Phiona at 10ss. Bring It is an okay movement trick, but it's not great outside of Recover Evidence. Her attack is good once her grit turns on, or if she's got a scheme marker to power her up. She's good at 9ss of course and with it into RE at 10.

But when my master gives out a resource I don't really want 20% of my crew getting no benefit out of it.

Ok, you think Guardian is better than Phiona. I cannot argue against an opinion.

Tell me a game (schemes and strats) un which you choose Guardian and probably i can give you a better list with other models instead Guardian.

Anyway, as i said above it's fine if you want to play with Guardian, what i am saying is we have better options most of the times, he is not a tech piece.

Could you expand on what you mean more? Is having Hoffman do the attacking significantly worse than having him transfer AP to a beater to do it?

Yes, because when you overcharge Howard, Phiona or Peacekeeper, enemies within :new-Pulse:2" must take a TN15 MV duel or suffer 1 damage and injuried +1 so they must make a big choice with his hand. Keep cards and gain injuried +1 or spend it so you have less high cards to prevent PK next 4-5 attacks or Howard 3-4 attacks.

  11. 2 hours ago, admiralvorkraft said:

Except that Phiona can't use Power Tokens, costs more, doesn't have a 2" engagement range, doesn't have Scatter, doesn't have Toss.

And Hoffman is happy because he will use them eficiently.

With Phiona you get extra 6" MOV for Hoffman on T1 so is a "toss". You can Being It enemies for killing selection or to denay VP.

I'm sorry that I keep going on about this, but I started this thread complaining about how one dimensional Hoffman is and the consistent argument from a number of folks here has been that to be successful you need to lean into that single dimension of play. Which is just completely contrary to my experience with the game. I have always found that you win by bringing a diversity of tools to the table that allow you to respond to different situations, that movement tech is very often what wins games.

Sorry but as i explain Hoffman crew is deep and you can play very variacions depending if the rival and the table.

But that doesn't mean Guardian is a good choice (even if os a good model) because you have better models for similar cost that can do the same.

So you can play with Guardian and he will do a good job, but you will be able to pick a better option the 90% of the games.

    2 hours ago, admiralvorkraft said:

I will grant that Hoffman (with the Transfer Power pushes and access to lots of Fast) can cope without the Guardian's tech. But he also has a beastly damage track so I'd contend he doesn't need to spend all his stones on dedicated beaters either.

Agree, Hoffman can be a powerfull beater, but he is a support master. So if we talk about eficience and you have Hoffman on melee instead of supporting your models, that means you are playing your rival's game and not yours.

  12. 6 hours ago, admiralvorkraft said:

So? I'm not taking it because I need a beater. I'm taking it because I need a toss bot with Take the Hit.

If you really need Take the Hit, you have Phiona. You cannot spend 9ss only for Toss. But is my opinion. I prefer spend 10ss on Howard, Peacekeeper or Phiona than in the Guardian.

  13. 27 minutes ago, Thatguy said:

I think it's not a big problem for Hoff. With fast the Guardian can Toss, push itself, then double walk or walk charge and be right next to whatever it threw.

Sure but Hoffman models look slow but they are not and for similar cost you can get, Melissa, Howard, Josh, Peacekeeper or even Phiona ook.

  14. I like Guardian on m2e but in m3e is overcostered. A 9ss model who can toss a model 10" but them he is far away for the action.

He is a beater/tank but we have better options for 1ss (Josh or Howard).

    My core list is:

    Pool: 27 left
    Leader:
      Charles Hoffman
    Totem(s):
      Mechanical Attendant
    Hires:
      Howard Langston
        Lead-Lined Coat
      Melissa K.O.R.E.
      Mobile Toolkit

Now depends of schemes, strats and rival i would choose the rest.

If the game must be played on the middle of the board (Claim Jump, Leave Your Mark with Public Enemies or Recover Evidence).

It's time for Peacekeeper if you're going to play agressive and you are not going to face Leveticus or MacMourning (they would cut PK as butter). On those games you need extra protection, so Phiona + LLC is your choice (or if you face enemies with HtW).

Josh with LLC is the tech beater against terrifiying because he is ruthless. And he can easy kill models with armour or hechman/master thanks of his irreducible damage. If he is full Powet Tokens enemies would be scared of kill him whilst is on the middle of his crew.

Then you have the support models to make work the machines.

Medical Automaton brings you an insane amount of healing and makes models within 3" almost unkilliable.

Mobile Toolkit giving extra shield, focus or power tokens and healing for just 3ss.

Mechanical Attendant gives you extra movement and more healing. (And he is for free, very good totem).

Then you have mobile models for schemes.

Watcher can move 23" (or 16 + interact) on a turn if you need It for a breaktheough or and Spread Them Out.

Hunter has an insane movement betwen Deadly Pursuit, Mv6 and Pounce on Chest or Transfer Power. So he can move around 20" in a turn (depends of the combination of abilities you use). And he is also a good scheme runner hunter.

Riotbraker is another tech pick against markers and destructible terrain. Melissa KORE and PK love him because of his Blow It to Hell so they can shoot enemies with no cover.

Thats all i usually play in Guild Hoffman. Other models like steamfitters or warden don't bring enought to be hired on my list. Maybe i need to play them more.
