Very smooth painting on the ghost and good texturing on the stonework. The vines look a bit too arranged and could probably be "wilder", even if that means concealing parts of the tombstone.
-
Very, very nice lighteffects. If anything I think it could be darker in the outer parts furthest away from the "bubble".

Nice and creepy vibesπ Have you used a smokemachine for the photo?

Amazing work! Great lighting and love the play with the perspective. I've been looking and looking, yet I'm still not sure where the shadow ends and the physical model holding the hat begins!

Just... excellent... amazing.... wow!Β π€―

I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at here, but it certainly looks disgusting. And I belive that's the goal?Β π

There is a nice putrid theme to the individual models, but the displayboard does very little to tie them together in a scene. If you are to do it this way, The display should be an extention of the basing on each model to make one cohesive terrain that just happen to have cuts for bases.Β

Very well painted, and with a cool reference to Vagrantsong as well. Aside from the VS logo I feel the theme is a bit missing. The build is excellent but the blue glow feels a bit overused and makes the composition very busy.

Absolutely stunning! Love everything about it, down to the small details like the expression on the ladys faceβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

It's an awesome scene! It actually took me a little time to realise that it' both sides of the mirror...
It's such a great idea, though I'd really like to see this a whole lot darker with OSL from the lamp, just to get a focal point in the composition.

Quite the creepy atmosphere, strenghtened by the appropriate glowing eyes.

Love how the ghost picks up the colour of the rug. Very cute colouring on the wholeπ

I never said it was the base to be honest, I didn't really clock it till just now. It was more the way you use lighting and your highlight style. But I think it is hard for the people who have been in the painting competition for any length of time not to recognize each other's little signatures in places. I did not even think it might be taken as a negative that I spotted it right out - because I earnestly meant the paint job - not the base. Sorry if that came off wrong!Β
No, it didn't come out wrong at all. I was certain it was the base that blew my cover. Quite flattered that it wasn'tπ (But I'm still tired of painting those bases thoughπ)

Thank you for the nice comments!
I'm close to running out of these base inserts, and I guess it has become somewhat of a signature, so probably wise to avoid them for the next competition. (I getting pretty tired of painting them anyway...) Let's see if you can spot my entry next time @Shock & AweΒ π
@Cognitive_ThoughtworksΒ don't know if I can provide a recipe, but it basicly to paint the white of the eye first, then draw a thin line around the iris and block out the pupil. After that you fill inn the iris with desired colour (in this case red) Then shade it down where shadow would fall, and use thin lines towards the pupil as highlights. Finally I top it off with a white dot where you'd get the reflection of the sun (or moon, or whatever lightsource you want to imitate) There are of course many minor stages where I glaze transitions, but that's nothing special in this case. On this model I also lined the the eyeball with blood for the blood god to make them appear bloodshot.

Thank you!
It started out with just one colour (Green actually), but as the "ghost" was wrapping around the boy, there was OSL everywhere and it got a little hard to make the focal point stand out, and it was all rather bland. I then came up with the idea for the colourshift. At first I was very sceptical to what I was doing, it didn't look very good, but I worked through it and think the result shows that it paid off.
So I think there is one important lesson to be learned from this: If you have an idea, see it through to the end before you judge the result!
