Greetings, fellow painters, and welcome to the Monthly Painting Challenge for December!
Would you believe that I have had the very great pleasure of hosting the Painting Challenge for three years now?
I've had some busy times, and some quieter times. With the birth of my daughter a couple of months ago, it's time for me to hand over the hosting to another forum member. Don't worry, though, I will be able to be a more active painter very soon, and you'd better believe that I will be continuing to contribute to the monthly painting challenge in 2022 and onwards!
Would you like to host the Monthly Painting Challenge?
My fellow painters, I won't be able to run the Challenge next year. It's going to be a crazy one for me, and if I'm honest, I haven't contributed as strongly as I would have liked in recent months (parenting will do that). So, I need to hand over that responsibility to someone.
I'd REALLY hate for this Challenge to die off for lack of an organiser, so if you can set up the Monthly Challenge Thread (and hey, maybe even set an additional challenge or two), then please answer this thread and put your hand up!
Everything you need to know for the Challenge is right HERE.
What should be the final Challenge for my final month of hosting?
I was thinking about why we paint. Yeah, we want to fight off the grey plastic tide that threatens to envelop us, and yes, we want to get better. However, the best reason for painting, if you ask me, is to have fun.
The Fun Painting Challenge!
For my final hosting month, I challenge you to throw off the shackles of an oppressive themed colour scheme, and painting schedule. I challenge you to paint something just for fun. Something silly, stupid, and fun. Use an unusual colour, or theme, or just a flatout goofy miniature that you've always wanted to paint, from any manufacturer!
Have a fantastic December, look after yourself and your loved ones, and keep those brushes damp!

Caedrus, reporting in!
Hello everyone!
In the month of October, I knew I was going to have a busy, busy time of things. I decided to be strategic, and to get the maximum points for the minimum time expenditure. I decide that one of my last eBay rescues, the Amalgam keyword, was due to get painted, in as quick and efficient a manner as possible. I cobbled together some scrap bases, gave them all a quick airbrush blasting, and then set about painting Leveticus (15SS) and Rusty Alyce (9SS).
The Leveticus has this spear-thing that just. breaks. constantly. Super annoying. However, working past that, I decided that the painting style for this keyword would be harsh reds (including sculpted hoses full of what-could-be-blood), cool steels and lots of rusts (orange, red, brown) and trash. I decided to get more NMM practice in (which is completely bonkers considering how time-strapped I was), and lots of airbrush-aided OSL.
Here they are!
Alyce's left eye was trashed (second hand model), and I'm considering an eyepatch. It's probably OK for a gaming piece. I was otherwise happy with the little details (Lev's base freehand, Alyce's pantaloons), and I think the bases work to combine them thematically. I'd love to know what you think!
I'll check out everyone's work soon, but until then, keep putting pigment to plastic!

This month, I will be painting some Amalgam. I've ordered some old-school metal abominations off eBay, and I will post pictures soon!
In the meantime, I have some rough bases, the four M2E abominations, and the waifs!

Greetings, fellow painters, and welcome to the Monthly Painting Challenge for November!
Everything you need to know for the Challenge is right HERE.
October was a quiet month for me, but I am back on deck and ready to get some painting done! In fact, let's get some painting done in a rush. Are you ready for...
The Speed Painting Challenge!
In the month of November, I challenge you to Speed paint. That is, to paint a miniature from primed to completed in 116 minutes, which is the run time for the movie Speed.
I've tried this before. It's ... a real challenge.
Have a fantastic November, look after yourself and your loved ones, and keep those brushes damp!

Lovely minis! Great thematic cohesion, strong colours. They look gorgeous!

@dancater: Fellow Australian here (NSW). I don't have any solutions, but if you do find a way to get them, I would be up for a group buy if that reduces crippling postage costs!

Caedrus, reporting in!
I hope you will forgive these not-quite-indicative photos, as the end of the month is only a few hours away, where I am in Australia!
With three Pistoleroes de Latigo (12SS), the Dispatcher (3SS) and Tuco Ortega (7SS), I have just sneaked in for the Master requirement for September.
It's been a crazy month for me! I hope to have these guys' final touches done by later tonight, but I thought you'd like to se what I have been up to!
My Hannah and proxy will have to wait for another month (October will be even busier than September! 😲), but I have fulfilled my Freehand Challenge with Hannah's dress. The pattern doesn't quite match the contours of her dress, but it's close. Live and learn!
Have a great day, and I shall post some more photos of the final product very soon!
Have a great one, stay safe, and be well!

@Caedrus, each Viktoria is worth 15SS?
Yeah, I think so!

As I mentioned, folks, this one is going to be a very quiet month for me, as life-outside-playing will have to come to the front burners for a while. My pledge for this month is going to be starting one of my few remaining Outcasts keywords: Amalgam.
Let's start big, with an eBay Rescue Leveticus and Rusty Alyce.
Have a great October, my friends!

Greetings, fellow painters, and welcome to the Monthly Painting Challenge for October!
Everything you need to know for the Challenge is right HERE.
Folks, this month is going to be a very quiet month for me, as life brings me a whole bunch of new excitement. Don't worry, though, I'm not going anywhere, I just know this month will be a huge one for me.
This month, as Bob Ross would say, "Let's get a little crazy, here".
The Unexpected Challenge!
In the month of October, I challenge you to paint a miniature in an unusual manner. An unusual theme, an unusual colour scheme, a crazy hair do, a ton of tattoos ... get a little crazy! This segues nicely into the Wyrd Painting Competition:
Have a fantastic (and/or spooky) October, look after yourself and your loved ones, and keep those brushes damp!

I have a question: I am seeing all this beautiful Paintjobs and yet nobody is asking how they are done. Is it considered bad manners or would you answer me if ask nicely ?
PLEASE ask! I love talking about painting, and for my skill level, I am more than happy to chat!
Here's a very quick update as I get on the home stretch for September!
September has been crazy, and October is going to be even more so, so I was looking for a quick way to get my points.
More images to come as the month closes out!
Stay well,
Caedrus.

Only four miniatures this month, but I spent a bit of time on a few pet projects as well. First, my mages!
I wasn't sure about the strong orange with the cooler colours, but it really grew on me! 15SS there.
Secondly, a miniature that I had been wanting to paint for ages, but I was a bit terrified, not the least reason being that I had lost a piece. Here she is, my 11SS Ahab Challenge, the Mechanical Rider!
The magenta is there to tie into my Colette crew. So, I replaced the trailing chain with a molded pneumatic tube, but I'm still not 100% on it. I might remove it and just go without. It looks a little chunky to my eyes, even now. What do you think?
I still need to be willing to put more contrast into my NMM efforts, and I think I need to push the glow from the plasma a little more as well.
As always, feedback is very welcome.
Stay well everyone, and have a great September!

For September, once again I will be trying to finish my Hannah. Also on the painting list is a Dispatcher, and a couple of Pistoleros de Latigo!
Who will get the freehand? Probably Hannah, but who knows!
Stay well, and stay safe, everyone!

The Freehand Challenge!
In the month of September, I challenge you to grab that 10/0, and so some freehand! Tattoos, details, cloak designs, stripes, tartan ... they are all awaiting your steady hand and delicately balanced blood pressure medication!

Hi Everyone!
This year will be my last year co-ordinating the Monthly Painting Challenge, and I'm looking for someone to step into the role.
I haven't been as punctual as I should be in updating the roster (I shall be doing it soon, I promise!), and you folks deserve someone who can give it their full attention!
I love this community, and it's probably time for some fresh new blood to come in, shake things up, and set some new challenges!
Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere, and I shall be painting on this forum for a long time to come. I'd like to get to a @Diddick or @Viruk level of skill before I die!
2022 is going to be a crazily busy year, so I'd like to get someone to get ready to step into the role for January 1st.
The role is essentially:
- Setting up a thread each month;
- Maintaining a spreadsheet; and
- Setting the odd extra challenge.
Easy stuff, but the more passion you bring, the more rewarding the role.
So, if you have the time to give a little to the community, reply below!

Here's mine!
There were ... a lot of Fire Golems.
@Diddick: First of all, Congrats on the absolutely well-deserved win. I wish I could paint like that! I'm not going to lie, I did suspect that that was your work. I reckon that you guessed mine, as well. Absolutely delightful work by you, and so many of the painters.
I'm jealous of the skills displayed!

I'm going to use the same excuse for not loading my images!
I got it working! Yay!
Here's an Iggy.
I think I should have some darker colours in the midline. Oh well.
My Gamin! I wanted to have some green there, but try something new for the Poison Gamin. Also, where's my Poison Golem, Wyrd?
The Essence: Officially, Wyrd's hardest-to-photograph miniature.
A couple of Kudra (why I have two of them is a long story. I have painted the higher-up one as a model specifically for a Poison-focussed Arcanist crew)
Some eBay rescued SVG, including a couple of snapped-off sword repairs.
Sandeep. I tried glazing fluorescents into the flame. It worked very pleasingly.
Kandara. I was pleased with how she turned out.
Banasuva. A complex mini. I had a lot of fun painting this guy.
So, with the exception of a couple of academics, the keyword is complete. Bring on August.
My sincere apologies for the delay in uploading!

Caedrus, checking in!
So, I had a bit of an up-and-down month. I started a bit slow, then had a surge of activity, which those of you would have seen. Then I had my second COVID-vaccine, and my energy levels ... they were a bit fluctuating, shall we say? Anyway, I managed to (just) get a lot of stuff painted! I completed a miniature for the Hot Hot Hot competition, whose points I shall add later. This miniature was also my 'Discomfort' miniature.
I'll do some photos very soon, but for the moment, the remaining points are:
[15SS] Sandeep Desai
[7SS] Banasuva
[8SS] Kandara
[24SS] Shastar Vidiya Guard
[18SS] Kudra x2
[4SS] Essence of Power
[15SS] Poison Gamin x3
[5SS] Metal Gamin
[6SS] Iggy
Making a total of 102 Soulstones for July!
Pictures to come tomorrow!
Stay well, everyone!

In the month of August, I will be starting on a Kaeris crew, but to participate in the Ahab Challenge, I will be painting either the Arcane Emissary, or Santana Ortega. Yikes.
Wish me luck.

Greetings, fellow painters, and welcome to the Monthly Painting Challenge for August!
Everything you need to know for the Challenge is right HERE.
One thing which I have really, really notice this year is that many of our forum painters have really improved. Maybe it's the temperatures making everyone stay inside, or maybe it's the COVID lockdowns - but I'm stunned at how greatly everyone has improved. So how, I wondered, should I integrate that into a Challenge?
The Ahab Challenge!
In the month of August, I challenge you to be brave, and to tackle that miniature which you never thought you were good enough to undertake (or maybe complete)! So, Captain Ahab, it's time to get that white whale. Paint that miniature, and overcome your fears!
Have a fantastic August, look after yourself and your loved ones, and keep those brushes damp!

2021 Monthly Painting Challenge - December
in Miniature Showcase
Posted
For this month, I will be painting three Scavengers (18SS), Marlena Webster (8SS), and something fun. Maybe a gremlin.
Have a great December, everyone!
