  1. This sounds like an awesome plan. I shall send you a PM and let's get this happening! Any other Newcastle / Hunter Malifolk out there, let us know!
  2. Any other Malifaux players in the Hunter? @Lunkweed, @FabioMatt, have you done any painting to show off?
  3. @FabioMatt: Ooh! Levi? Victorias? Do tell!
  4. @Lunkweed: I'm going to cast up some Ice Pillars soon - I'll let you know how I get on!
  5. Right in the heart! What's your crew? Do you get into Good Games at all? I'd love to actually get a few games in - nice to lose against a new face!
  6. Newcastle player here! If you're asking if I play WELL, definitely not! I'm more skilled at being a painter and sore loser!
  7. So, first of all, my absolute best for your wedding and marriage! Second, can you tell me what categories you're entering, so I can enter the other ones, to have any chance? 😉 Caedrus.
  8. Caedrus, checking in! Greetings, fellow painters. I hope September has treated you well. So, I'll be doing a little feedback for all sometime soon, but for the moment, with 2.5 hours to spare, I finished a miniature this month! Here he is, the Freikorps Engineer! So, I'm slowly, sloooooowly getting a sense of NMM, but there are still a few areas where I need to improve (with "don't be afraid to use dark shadows" as the first thing I could improve upon). However, overall, I'm pretty pleased with this guy, even if I am painting at an absolutely glacial pace. There are so many wonderful paintworks here - I'm just constantly inspired. Stay well, stay safe, and keep putting pigment to plastic! Caedrus.
  9. Folks, a few weeks ago, I lamented the loss of my just-built Hans. The day after the replacement flew in from the United States, the original Hans was found. So, this month, I'll be painting that guy, and my second Freikorps Engineer. Have a great October! Caedrus. P.S.: Anyone in Australia need a Hans?
  10. Welcome to the 2020 Wyrd Painting Challenge! This is the thread for the October Painting Challenge. I’m Caedrus, and I have the very great pleasure of being your host for 2020. While I am proud to be your host, this competition belongs to all of us, and if there’s anything that we can better to improve the Challenge, please do let me know. The link to the painter spreadsheet is here. There was discussion last month about the Shelf of Shame, that pile of Malifaux miniatures that are sitting unfinished, unpainted, unbuilt, or unboxed. So, for this month, an additional challenge: Be strong, and upload a photograph your Shelf / Box / Bucket / Wardrobe of Shame! In addition, this month sees the Rotten Harvest Painting Competition. If you are taking part, for this month, we'll be allowing unspecified pledges, e.g.: "This month, I'll be painting ... something!" The 2020 Wyrd Monthly Painting Challenge is all about: Having fun painting! Motivating yourself, and encouraging others. Being part of a great, friendly community. Giving and receiving constructive advice. And, finally: Getting some pigment onto plastic! This is not a competition in any way. The pledge categories are the following: Minion: you paint at least 1 Soulstone worth of Wyrd miniatures each month Enforcer: you paint at least 6 Soulstones worth of Wyrd miniatures each month Henchman: you paint at least 11 Soulstones worth of Wyrd miniatures each month Master: you paint at least 16 Soulstones worth of Wyrd miniatures each month Tyrant: you paint at least 31 Soulstones worth of Wyrd miniatures each month The rules: The challenge started on January 1st, 2020. Models count for the month in which you finish them. You can finish painting a model that you started before the beginning of the month. Everyone may fail to make their monthly goal twice and stay in the challenge. This is using a mulligan. See the Buy-Back rule, below. You can choose to go down a pledge level during the year, but you cannot move up. A model is considered painted if it is (1) based (even glued onto a black base counts); (2) tournament legal. That means that if it's a translucent, based model, it counts automatically. If it is any opaque material, then the standard is: Every part of the miniature painted, and three colours minimum. A new rule for 2020: The Buy-Back Everyone has good months and bad months. To encourage people to continue to paint, we will be trying out a new rule this year: the Buy-Back. In the past, if you have used your two mulligans, you’re out of the Challenge! However, in 2020, you can buy your way back into the challenge. All you have to do is to undertake your normal pledge and paint for the month, AND undertake the pledge and paint from one of the months you mulliganed. E.g.: Sarah is painting at Enforcer level (6SS/month), and she’s needed to mulligan for the third time. She announces that for the upcoming month, she’ll paint 12SS. If she does so, she’s back in the Challenge! At such a time, it might be worthwhile considering dropping down a category, but that’s up to Sarah! Miniature Values: Malifaux Almost all models count as their Soulstone value; but Masters count for 15 soulstones. Zero cost models count for 5 soulstones. Proxies (constructed from Wyrd models) count for their proxy value. The Other Side Titans count for 25 soulstones. Commanders count for 15 soulstones. Adjunct models count for 5 soulstones. Otherwise: A 30mm base model is worth 5 soulstones. A 40mm base model is worth 7 soulstones. A 50mm base model is worth 10 soulstones. Markers count for 2 soulstones if they're flat, or 5 soulstones if they're 3D and fancy Terrain · Scatter Piece (5SS): A modest piece of terrain, or a small number of scattered terrain pieces. These are the spray-can and dry-brush pieces. · Focus Piece (10SS): A terrain piece that represents a focal point of pride in a terrain board. These pieces require a decent amount of construction and painting. · Centre Piece (20SS): A terrain piece that is a significant centrepiece to the terrain. A handmade forest, a mausoleum, or a train engine. · Masterpiece (50SS): A gorgeous, unique terrain piece that makes people wonder if you get out much. · War and Peace (100SS): A complete, themed 3’x3’ terrain board. My very best for October! Caedrus.
  11. @Viruk: I think for next month's Challenge, I'll be asking people to show their unpainted stocks of Malifaux minis ... I think I have a good chance of having the biggest Shelf of Shame.
  12. Caedrus, checking in! Greetings, fellow painters. I hope that, wherever you are in the world, that you are safe, well and happy. In fact, here in Australia, it's RUOK ("Are you OK?") Day, where we encourage everyone to ask those around you if they are OK, in terms of their mental health. So, in that spirit, I hope all my fellow painters are OK! My apologies, folks, it's been a crazy time for me of late. In fact, one of the reasons for this (if you'll forgive a personal anecdote) is that Caedrus is now Dr. Caedrus! Woo! However, onto far more important things - painting! This month, I had it in my mind to complete Arik Schöettmer. However, this guy is clearly turning into a multi-month challenge, as I'm doing quite a bit of sculpting modifications. Here's a preview! So, I decided to change my plan to something from here: With Hans being my preference. However, life had other plans. I built Hans, I pinned his legs, I inserted him into a cork, and then the tiny grey figure flew out of the cork, onto the perfectly-matching grey floor of my garage, never to be seen again. Oh well, better order one from Wyrd and have a little weep as I look at the postage to Australia. So, this month is looking like some (slightly modified) Engineers and a leftover Freikorpsman as my pledge. Wish me luck! Onto the topic of hosting the Challenge in 2020. I'm deliberately not going to comment (at least not yet) about different ideas for 2021, because I don't want to influence anyone who might want to give an opinion. I have an opinion, just not yet to be disclosed. @Diddick: I'm not going anywhere 😁. I still have way too much to learn, and I'm having way too much fun here. @Purple Mist: Your comment made my day ☺️. It's very much my pleasure to take part in this wonderful community. @Gloomy: My sincere thanks for offering to run the Challenge. I can't wait to see what the future holds. Take care of yourselves, everyone, and keep putting pigment to plastic! Caedrus.
  13. For September, my pledge will be Arik Schöettmer, aka the Freikorps Strongarm. Anyone want to guess what mine will be a homage to? Now, if only my sculpting skills were the equal of my vision! Have a great September, folks! Caedrus.
  14. Are you interested in running the 2021 Painting Challenge? Fellow painters, with September's arrival, the end is in sight for 2020 (and what a fascinating year it has been so far...). I've had lots of fun hosting the Challenge, but it's probably time for me to ask if there is a fellow painter out there who would like to host next year. Is anyone up for the task? If so, put your digital hand up! Caedrus.
  15. Welcome to the 2020 Wyrd Painting Challenge! This is the thread for the September Painting Challenge. I’m Caedrus, and I have the very great pleasure of being your host for 2020. While I am proud to be your host, this competition belongs to all of us, and if there’s anything that we can better to improve the Challenge, please do let me know. The link to the painter spreadsheet is here. September was the month of the Roman God, Vulcan. That makes September a great month to paint some fire! And, with it being the Northern hemisphere's Autumn, it's a perfect time to break out those autumnal colours, so let's see some yellow, orange and re on the palettes this month! 16. Caedrus, checking in! Folks, my apologies, I've been a bit non-communicative the last couple of weeks. There's a lot of busy going on in my world right now! So much so, in fact, that I have painted just one Malifaux mini this month. However, I spent, if I'm honest, waaaay too much time on a single minion. Still, I wanted to mess about with this mini for ages, and I had a plan in mind, and it actually worked out! Here he is, 8SS of Drachen Trooper! In case you were interested, the flames are greenstuff (formed over a bent paperclip for the jet of flame), and the thicker fuel hose is made from green stuff, run through the GSW tube-maker-thingy. I had lots of fun with OSL, obviously, and messed about with some NMM as well. Critiques and comments are, of course, very welcome! I'll be updating the spreadsheet very soon (I've let that slide a little - sorry 😞). I'm loving everyone's work! Stay well, stay safe! Caedrus.
  17. Caedrus, reporting in! First up for this month, I completed the Ashes and Dust trio! I messed about with a new NMM Brass scheme. I like the colours, but I butchered some of the painting. I liked the contrast, and the temperature contrast, though. Secondly, a bigger project, the complex and vast Talos! Everything about this was time consuming. The subassemblies, losing two pieces, the purple-Soulstone base, and lots of glazing. The NMM isn't perfect, but I'm happy with the result. So, that's my July - sorry I haven't given much feedback, but it's been crazy busy! Looking forward to some simpler painting in August! Caedrus.
  18. @astapable: Welcome to the Painting Challenge!
  19. Caedrus, cutting it tight! With a minute to spare! Expect better photos soon, but for the moment, I got there! Caedrus.
  20. Dear All, As I desperately try to get my minis finished for July, I realised that I have nothing set up for August. But that's OK, because I have a lone Drachen Trooper sitting on my desk. So, that's my pledge. 8 points of Flammerwerfer goodness. I'll do something else, maybe even getting started on the terrain pieces I've been promising myself for ... wow ... a looong time. See you in August - take care of yourselves, and keep putting pigment to plastic! Caedrus.

  22. @Negalith: they're the same scale, but the legs on the female sculpts are preposterously long 🤨.
  23. That's what I did - TTB parts and some (amateur) sculpting.
  24. Australia based here (NSW). I could go halves with you if that helps!
