  1. Alright, I probably won't know the schemes until the match begins, but what would be good for general use? I was thinking of maybe getting Joss to tag along, as noted above, but I was also wondering about tossing an upgrade on Lust, is that generally not worth it, or is there some upgrades that work? I should probably also mention that my opponent is playing gremlins.
  2. Err... I just realized I don't even know the schemes. The time difference bewteen me and my correspondant is 8 hours, which makes communication difficult. Also isn't Lust a henchwoman? I can see the merit of the third mage, and I will check pullmyfinger for another henchman I could take.
  3. I wonder what that means for the guy on the mortar (forget his name) he has a unique name, but he also has a plug base. I wonder what is up with him?
  4. Alright, thanks. Any recommendations of what I should add? I also just realized I have no idea what the point cost of the game is. But I would guess 35 or 50.
  5. Yeah, I agree, I think it is just a coincidence.
  6. Here's another thing that I noticed, not sure if it's a coincidence or not though. The two Malifaux factions so far have power over two of the four traditional elements, water and fire. Does this mean anything? I have no idea.
  7. So I am having my first game of Malifaux on Vassal today and I just realized that I need to dtermine my crew. I do not have the books, so upgrades and costs are something that I can't really find out. But I have a general idea of what I want for my crew. Ironsides Mouse Oxfordian Mage (runes) Oxfordian Mage (runes) Lust Arcane Effigy Not sure how many points that is.
  8. I do like how each of the warped are different from each other. Feels very thematic. Not a huge fan of the cult aesthic as a whole, I tend to prefer more ordered and noble looking designs. But Gorysche is amazing. Absolutely amazing.
  9. Correction, it wasn't all that bad for white people (which includes me. Yah Canadian independence without any negative consequences). What you say is true but effects of colonialism are the origins of the current turmoil in the middle east, which has gone on for centuries at this point, as well as a lot of discrimination, ethnocide, and genocide. Yes it did do good things, not denying that. History is complex, we shouldn't try to moralize AND now I realize that I am being a politically correct hypocrite. Is the british empire good or bad? Well what are we comparing it to? We don't know what would have happened if they had never colonized, so how can we say it would have been better or worse. Every country in the world is guilty of Genocide or attempted genocide sometimes during their lifetime. The only difference in morality is the one's that admit it and apologize. (discounting very recent states for obvious reasons.) In all honestly this discusion would create a violent flame war any other forum, but here? Wyrd forums are oddly rational and sane. Of course my bet is that the king's empire will be a "nice" empire that accentuates the positive parts and ignores the negative, presenting an ethnically diverse cast of soldiers all fighting for a common cause. Admitedly, that would be cool to see.
  10. Dang... I don't have the rulebooks. Although honestly I am tempted to purchase them, the system seems very, very fun. Especially in how you get to customize your magic system. My group would probably enjoy it. I would probably be fine playing boring but practical sane man (I am the role player, I care more about character personality than anything else, the OC I name myself after originated as a DnD character, and the name comes from me misremembering a 'cool' name I got from a spore randomiser. Name turned out later to actually be Xandalf, which is considerably less cool). As well my group was the kind that always came up with banal (but oddly effective) solutions to problems. We still laugh about the time our sorcerer killed a dungeon boss in a single turn with a chicken leg or when our mage created a makeshift barricade with a flaming table that he was also using to crush some kobolds. Or the fact that Staurt's characters always die on their first dungeon (or at least almost, his most recent survived their first dungeon despite botching literally everything he did, even if the five before him didn't) if he calls them Reed. And this isn't DM hates him kills, but "paladin can sneak more reliably than the rogue" incidents. Unfortunately we all split apart due to university. Group hasn't been able to get together again. *chuckle* not even a year and here I am being melodramatic to random strangers on an internet forum after an unnecessarily long and completely pointless tangent. *Laughs out loud* I had a long paragraph praising the community (that discusion on the morality of the thunders is a perfect example, must forums would have launched into a flame war for war less), the moderators (it doesn't feel like the moderators and the community are seperate, it feels like there is actual genuine trust between the two) and the quality of the models (Goryshce is hands down the coolest models I have ever seen. It's a mix of orochi (yes I know it is supposed to be a hydra) and western dragons, which is awesome. It's also a mutant which is even more cool, and it regenerates and makes itself nigh unkillable as well as very adaptable) as a sort of quasi apology for the off topic talk up above, but I accidentally deleted it as my computers mousepad is very bad, it's built for touchscreen use which I am not a fan of. Also, I was wrong, I had thought that two new factions would be long shot stretch goals, but I see I am mistaken. I believe that there will be new factions, but in a few years after the game has established itself. Potential earth factions: Guild, 3 kingdoms, Russia, Ottoman empire, United States, Native American confederation, A group of places that succeeded from empires, and that is all I got. I doubt most of these will make the game. I stick with my earlier guess, a final total of 8 factions, although that will take a LONG time. I would guess about 4-5 years or so to reach. For Malifaux factions I stick with my 'coincidental horseman' theory. The other ones will 1) seek to conquer, and 2) seek to kill all humans and/or steal the soul of every living thing on the planet. Well this is certainly a mess that I just wrote. Just kinda wrote things as I thought them. ADHD probably explains all of this.
  11. The british empire was very large and diverse, but wyrd may try to avoid all the unfortunate implications that came with the empire. Te negative effects are still felt today in many areas of the world, they were the original "west" in the modern world. And that sentiment has not really changed, just shifted targets from UK to USA. The only places that really look back somewhat nostalgically are Canada and Australia, and 1) those countries are now rules by whites, and 2) neither of those countries would ever wish to rejoin the empire. They are fine being part of the common wealth, but empire, no. Of course it would kinda be cool seeing a large and diverse selection of units for the empire. Especially Canadians. I just reinforced my own point by accident didn't I...
  12. Slow down the video enough and you can see that the duel-faction girl has some unreadable text underneath the fireteam text. Also, she has something in the bottom left corner just like charles edmonton and the other commanders we have seen. She may be a commander. It seems like champions with plug bases will simply be elite units, while one's with solid bases will be commanders. Which may mean the frenzy was a commander. Huh
  13. I noticed that there was a duel faction model in the video. Intriguing. As well it seems like when you purchase a unit it gives you a specific amount of squads, meaning that you will not be able to purchase small amounts of weak squads in order to fill up your ranks or requirements.
  14. I found them on a reddit post once. Not exactly precise but it should give you an easier time looking.
  15. Honestly looking back at the other allegiances so far, none really jump out at me. More of a "gothic" horror than a body horror guy, as well as a lover of well-researched myths and legends. But I am interested to see what else is in store for the game. Hopefully canada. I like it when Canada get's acknoledged. Although Russia may be interesting, as may be the other allegiances later revealed. My bet is that two new allegiances will be stretch goals. With two others being released further down the line in about a couple years or so. I do not think more than 12 allegiances will make an appearance, but my specific guess would be 8. Unless we get word of a third faction types other than earth and malifaux, in which case I have no idea.
  16. My poorly articulated point was actually meant to point out that of all the options, it is the only one that brings a positive benefit. Having to kill an enemy or our own unit, or discard cards is something that you will have to strategize around, while discarding shaken tokens feels like something you will always want to do. Of course I would guess that it is hard to gain more than a single shaken token a round, so you will have to be content with running models at lower effectiveness for a turn or two if you want them to enter glory. I do like how thematic it is though.
  17. Hey I watched the faction video a third time and noticed something: "Advanced Prototype: During Scouting, Attach up to two prototype assets per commander to units in this company, ignoring asset limits." (emphasis added) You can have multiple commanders on the field at once. Also, the Frenzy is a 50mm model, which is only a third of the size of the titans. So I am wondering if he is a commander for the Hordes, as the "The" suggests that he is unique. Of course he could just be like the mortar man and be a unique unit. Although we don't know the mortar man isn't a commander yet so.... As well, if does seem that each faction has a different way of achieving glory, the empire have to kill an enemy, the hordes have to eat an ally, Abyssinia discard two cards, and the cult have to discard a pair of shaken tokens (which seem to be normally negative for some reason.) Personally I like this, games like warhammer would often have specific faction rules for each faction, so why not just have a card with all of them on it so that you don't have to look through a rulebook? It does make me wonder how future factions will acheive glory though, as the cards of rules woudl suggest more factions incoming.
  18. I would say it's more of an excuse to play this song: Um.. I mean to just post a link, but alright. Or maybe this one: I like Castlevania
  19. Oh also, we have heard of the Undying Tzar right? Look up Koschei on wikipedia. I think we now know who he is.
  20. Exactly what it seems, do you guys think that there will be mercenaries in the game? Personally I doubt that there will be a dedicated merc. faction like the Outcasts, but have no idea whether or not they will be present. If they are however, I am going to guess that faction origine is going to restrict your merc choice, for example a malifaux faction cannot hire earth mercenaries, and an earth faction cannot hire malifaux mercenaries. The fact that earth and malifaux factions seem to be powerhouse and subversive respectively this seems like it would help prevent the issues that other games had with mercs in that they could be used to simply make up for disadvantages and break the game. You won't be able to pick up some snipers to aid your hordes or some mindless fodder to protect your snipers.
  21. I feel like in the other side your allegiance will be more important than in Malifaux, yes factions were important in Malifaux, but you kinda chose masters rather than a faction. With this it feels like people are going to pick a allegiance and stick with it much more than in Malifaux. Not saying either system is better or worse, just commenting.
  22. Actually, the riders of Malifaux are the most similar to the original story that I have seen. Only one horseman is actually names, and that is Death, hence why the others are not refereed to by name. Wikipedia actually refers to them by there horse colors because of this, as well as how vague the book they come from is about them. Although death doesn't actually wield a scythe, usually when I use the character I have him as a necromancer or followed by a killer spirit. He is a collector, he doesn't dirty his own hands. But scythes are cool admittedly. The first horseman, the Pale Rider, is conquest. Although usually it is death who is said to ride the pale horse, with the first rider on the white horse. He wields a bow (replaced with a gun) and leads forces to conquer lands that are not rightfully theirs. Some think that the first horseman (often reffered to as conquest because of how he is spoken of) is actually the anti-christ, which would explain why he fights with the guild despite his obvious neverborn originating powers. He wants his former people to bow against an oppresor. The second is a man on a red horse (he had a red horse in first edition) with a sword who forces men to fight their brothers, and is often reffered to as war. I should note that this is civil war rather than external war, him becoming the aspect of all war didn't occur until later. He is mentioned as carrying a sword, and is obviously the hooded rider. Finally famine, sure she doesn't have any debuffs, but she forces you to waste resources on her summons. Famine is mentioned as carrying a pair of scales, and usually rides a black horse, just like she did in first edition. The dead rider is death, nothing to it.
  23. Here is another thing that I noticed with the Malifaux factions, although I have no doubt that it is a coincidence so don't go all crazy with the speculation. The malifaux factions seem to represent the four horsemen of the apocalypse, or at least the two we have seen so far have. Conquest (the name of this horseman is never given, he is simply said to desire conquering things and is often believed to be the antichrist. And the horseman are listed as bringing pestilence, war, famine and death, so some assume that the first horseman is pestilence.): The gibbering hordes (although if a allegiance of aliens/extra-demensional beings/alternative reality things/etc. appears with the desire of conquering earth and enslaving the people rather than just eating everything, the hordes could be argued as famine. Again this is more me pointing out a coincidence than a theory.) War: (which is different from conquest as it represents civil war rather than war from an opposing force): Cult of the burning man Will famine and death make an appearence? I would say yes but purely on coincidence, each malifaux originating faction is likely going to pose a very different threat to the nations of earth as to ensure that they all feel different. Oh course, that is assuming that the next factions revealed will be earth or malifaux factions, and not have some other origin.
  24. It seems to be their point of origine, Malifaux factions will be subversive and not have any true territories, and are simply called Malifaux factions because their power originates from there, while earth factions will be powerhouses with strictly defined arbitrary borders.
  25. I jest I jest, I was joking. That is the one problem with chat rooms, you cannot tell the tone that the person is using, and body language and vocal inflection in 60% of our understanding of words. I was just laughing at how earlier you were commenting that people should tone down the speculation and now it seems like you have decided that if you can't beat um, join em.
