  1. As someone who is thinking about getting Levi in the near future too, I have to agree that it would be great if you could share your thoughts on such a core list. Looking at all the models available to Levi you get a bit overwhelmed as a beginner, so having a rough 100SS pool of useful miniatures to pick from would be awesome.
  2. Good call on Levi, he's also basically a one-man-faction Although I have to admit that I think that's quite appealing actually, always having the same master and only switching among all his options seems pretty cool imo. Beside Levi I guess the same can be said about Marcus and Nico, as already mentioned. Anyone else that would fit into that description? Imo Guild and Gremlins are probably among the "best" (can't think of better word) factions to collect, since most models can interact with the others. Compared to something like Outcasts ... Hamelin, Levi, Jack Daw ... well, not so much. They simply don't share that many models imo. ... painted? 0_o
  3. Simple as that Speaking for myself I prefer picking specific masters and try to expand my collection around them rather than collecting factions. Main reason being that although I like many parts of mosts factions, I don't like every aspect and miniature of them, but that's just my personal feeling about this issue So, how do you expand your collection and how did you start? Special points to those who only have and play one or two masters and collect every option for them (Nicodem or Marcus come to mind)
  4. Thanks for all the replies, I guess my personal dislike of the other Ancestors made me think worse of them than they actuall are. Thanks for pointing out It sounds pretty cool to hand out the spirit caracteristic to multiple models if you wish to, that's definately something I haven't seen in the first place. Also getting back dead ancestors is probably pretty strong, true. I haven't really seen the use before since they're pretty resilent anyway. Having said that, I'd like to rephrase my initial question. I like Yan Lo and his ability to use his abilities for whatever is best in the current situation, because this makes him pretty versatile and tricky to figure out what to do best now. Also I love all the 10T ninja and monk models, basically the whole Misaki and Shenlong crew, the archers and snipers but also the 10T brothers and Tengu. I don't like the Ashigaru and other ancestors though. Can Yan Lo be played competitively without these models, or would I simply limit myself when excluding these?
  5. I finally got my Crossroads book a few days ago and am almost done reading through it, looking for some new ideas for new masters. Shenlong is definately on my wishlist and therefore I'm also considering getting some of the other 10T masters to have a small starting pool of miniatures once Shen is released. Long story short I took a look at Yan Lo, and don't really get his synergies with other models. Having said that, I have neither played him myself nor seen him getting played in our playgroup so far, therefore everythinv written here is pure brainstorming and may be completely wrong. Sure, there's his Reliquary upgrade, but it seems a bit underwhelming tbh. I'm no big fan of the Ancestors anyway (stylewise), but I don't get if it's worth running them just to get use of the upgrade. Yan Lo has quite some cool upgrades beside that available, so you shouldn't have many problems picking some. So, is this upgrade simply better than I think it is, or are there any other hidden benefits of running Ancestors I don't see? Next comes his ability to run 4 Retainer. Looking through the book I only found Ashigaru and Onryo, are there any others I missed? Although it's nice to be able to pick them, I don't really see the point in running them when it comes to synergy. Ok, Ashigaru gets a small trigger when in range to Yan Lo, but (at least for me) it doesn't seem too spectacular. Onryo I have no idea what to think about. So ... why pick them instead of some other 10T staples? Last but not least, the spirit theme. As far as I can see there are 5 spirits available: Onryo, Soul Porter totem, Izamu, Komanu and Tengu. Among those Tengu and Soul Porter are great inclusions for most crews anyway, so giving them a few buffs through Spirit Ascendant is probay a nice thing to have. The others I haven't seen in play yet, so I have no idea about them. On the other hand Fury of the Yomi is a (2) action, which is quite a hefty cost for a master. So as mentioned above I'm no fan of most Ancestors anyway, but without having played them it seems like there's no real "need" to play them, since the synergy between Yan Lo and them isn't that huge anyway. Would be great if someone here could give me a short rundown if they're better than I want them to be Thanks, cheers
  6. Yeah they're both pretty tough to convert, true. It's no big deal having a few spare ones I guess though However back to the Bayou Gremlins, what's a good number to have? I'm not sure if 8 will be enough. Another question I'm currently unsure about: in a summoning heavy So'mer list a second Slop Hauler seems like a nice addition. However spending 10 SS just for them isn't cheap either. So is 1 of them enough, or would 2 just be as reasonable? Any experiences about that issue?
  7. Thanks again for all your input. Especially to you dancater since you put quite some work into it I'll probably decide between Gremlins with So'mer and 10T with Yan Lo and Shan Long once it's released. Right now Gremlins get a bit of advantage, since I already own a box of So'mer (since I wanted a Johanna back then). Though those may be not the most complex masters, I guess they're still tricky enough for a different game experience compared to the Viktorias. I'll read a few pages about those masters on PMF and decide then Again, thanks for all the input. Helped me a lot
  8. Didn't wanted to create a new thread since my question fits here quite well imo. I got myself a box of Som'er a while ago (just for Johanna though) but never played it so far ... heck, it's not even assembled yet However, with the release of Ophelia I'm considering getting a bit deeper into the faction. Probably a box of Ophelia and the new plastic Slop Haulers for a solid start. That said, I'm not sure how many Bayou Gremlins would be necessary, especially when playing a So'mer summoner list sometimes. Will I get away with an additional box of 4 of them, or will I probably need way more than that? I'm considering getting myself a second copy of the So'mer box for an additional pair of Skeeters (beside the Bayou Gremlins) too, but I don't know what to do with that additional Lenny and So'mer then though. Any ideas for conversions? Thanks a lot
  9. *necro* I'm just curious, has there been any info about the release date of the currently missing boxes? Especially Ulix, Mah and probably a repack of Wong, but also Brewmaster, who should have been released a long time ago anyway regarding to some sites.
  10. Exactly this. All I basically know about this Black Friday thing is from South Park and (I guess) one episode of New Girl. However, thanks for clarifying
  11. Sorry if this question already came up, but how exactly does Black Friday work at Wyrd? Will there be special editions for sale at their online store, or will they simply announce the relaease of new kits, or whatever :? (we don't have Black Friday in our country at all, so please excuse the question )
  12. Again, thanks for all the input True that. I also considered Levi and Jack recently, the only problem I have with them is their style. I simply don't like the style of Wyrd's Abomiantions and the Guilty. However playwise they seem like the perfect fit actually, so I'm a bit torn between those and other options. Haven't looked for alternative miniatures for those modells yet though. Thanks for the reply I didn't even considered Lucius yet tbh, since I neither like Guild nor Neverborn ... I'm pretty picky as you may see Collette would be a awesome choice, but is already played by two other people in our playgroup, so I'd like to avoid her. Problem with Tara is mainly getting a copy of her imo. She neither shows up on ebay, neither is there any release date for her official box. Once she's released I guess I'll give her a shot though As said, I'll probably give Tara a try one day However McCabe seems a bit ... boring to be honest. In a game where a Teddy will hug you dead or a zombie hooker will lure you into death, a guy on a horse doesn't seem so special to me at all. Looking like Wolferine does probably help, but not enough, at least for me
  13. Thanks for all the replies Funny thing is that we discussed this thought in our playgroup recently, and I have to agree with you. However, imho, once you get some experience with them things become a lot easier. The main issue I currently have while playing them is that they don't have that many different choices when building a crew. Some modells shoot, some are nice in melee, but beside that there are no huge tricks in their pool imho. Thanks everybody for sharing their thoughts on this issue Among all the choices, I also considered Kirai, Tara, Jack Daw and Leveticus as complex options. However I'm not so much into them when it comes to style, therefore I'm probably looking for something else. Shen Long is a great suggestion, will definately consider this one when its box arrives Any other ideas? I thought about Yan Lo or maybe even Marcus. The first one because you always have to choose your playstile depending on your opponent, the second one simply because he has such a huge pool of options. I haven't seen either of them in real play though, so maybe I overestimate them a bit.
  14. I'm playing my Viktoria crew since M2E came out and therefore I'm currently looking for something new and ... well ... more complex to be honest. Since our playgroup only plays a small amount of different masters I don't have that much insight about all the possible options like others here. Therefore I'd be really like to know what's in your opinion the most complex, hardest to learn an thoughest to master master(s) out there. Thanks in regards for any input Cheers (in case my spelling or grammar is mistaken please excuse me, it's not my native language)
