  1. 'Ello all, I would like some tips for swamp themed bases for my future Gremlins. I know of Wyrds' and Black Cat, but I'm sure there are a ton of manufacturers out there. After sculpting my own cobblestone bases for 80+ miniaturess, I'm looking forward to some pre-made ones...
  2. Just pick a crew which draws your fancy, there are no bad ones. I got this piece of advice when I was starting out with Malifaux spring of '14, and it has served me well. The biggest drawback with looking in to already established good-n'-not-so-good (in other ppls opinion) is you tend to start to think in terms of "I need this for that", rather than going: "OMFG! That crew looks awesome!1!". And when in doubt; the crew that looks awesome will always trump the one that looks good on paper.
  3. I already have the large a** Battlefoam custom filled to the brim with Guild & Ressers. Roughly 70-80 models and counting... I wanted a small one - dedicated to Gremlins - so I'd never have to think: "Blaargh! If I only brought the big bag I'd be set for life!" As there are no crossover issues between Gremlins and the rest of the Factions. (Since Brewie will never be released I don't count the TT-angle... )
  4. Firstly: I have never played Gremlins. Not once, and never faced them either. Now then: HI all, just got myself some old-school metal piglets, and they sure look like pruneish lumps of bacon if there ever was such a thing. Has anyone been able to compare the new ones to them oldies? Difference in size/look etc. It seems the new ones are vastly superior, apart from vastly more adorable (naah! little wittle piggies!!1!). Will it look to odd to mix 'em with the new ones when they're released into the wild? Also: For you dedicated hoggers out there: how many is enough? Would the old(3) and the new(3) with an old piglet and new one from the Hog Whisperers for a grand total of 8 piggies be enough, even in a dedicated Ulix/The Sow hogfactory? What is your experience?
  5. HI all, I've been looking at some manufacturers (Battlefoam, Feldherr etc.) and I was wondering if any of you lot have any valuable insight as to which small bag to get? I'm thinkin' of starting up Gremlins, which will be the only Faction for the bag. The Feldherr Mini-Plus seems like a good bet, with two layers for a total of 32 minis and a thicker bottom layer for the larger Pigs and what have you. Which seems to be enough for a So'mer/Ophelia & Ulix mix-mash. It is my understanding from a youtube review that it also comes with a purpose-all net on the inside of the topflap, where you can store cards, the mini rulebook and what have you, correct? Is there other companies/bag options out there I've missed? Thank you in advance!
  6. As a Hoffman player I feel that the above statement if somewhat of a selling point; being able to use it with the Hoff' and Archanists both. And would you care to elaborate on the Howard .vs. Rail Golem statement? (And by all means, teach me how to abuse the heck out of the Golem with Hoffman)
  7. The rules (best in the biz', speaking from a score of gamesystems close to 20 yrs. down the line) The models (scaling issues aside, these are models which make me want to play the game, and not just paint 'em) The background (seriously, SERIOUSLY, that Guild offical from the McM chronicle story with the good-sport, heck-of-a-chap, pep-pep, cheerio-good sir., needs to get rules, a model and a moustasch.) In that order. (and if one could, if it wouldn't be a bother, then one might ever so slightly wish for a small favor of sorts, if it isn't a hazzle...to maybe, if time permits, end threads with rules disputes that goes on and on and never reaching a consensus, with an official answer more often than every other month-ish. It's your gamesystem, lay down the law!)
  8. Hi, wow, that is a bit Wyrd... It was not my intent to suggest that you do not listen to the community, but rather (from experience) a fear that not doing so might lead to a rift between the core and the maker, as it were. Which in turn might lead to enough negative sentiment generated as to put one of the game itself, regardless of rules or models. Been there, done that, and as I sit here, slowly drifting into this twilight age I like to think that whichever game I choose to spend my last weezing, ever-so-slightly-stained-with-pee-underwear years with, is actually a game that won't unplug me at the first sign of dementia, and then move on to a younger, less calcified version of yours truly... ...Yeah... That made no sense at all. In summary: I for one appreciate you taking the time to respond, irregardless (yes, American Dad made it a word...) of outcome. So, thank you Wyrd!
  9. You sir, intrique me and I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter (a kiss to a cheek of your choice if you get that paraphrasing)... But seriously; Yamaziko? I must admit I fail to see the benefit. Regarding Toshiro I can only say: if you can't find a place for the Daimyo you're doing something wrong. However: it seems to me that Mei Feng likes herself some constructs to walking-along-the-railroad-all-the-live-long-day with. Is a few Rail Workers enough in a melee oriented crew? Komainu - not being released yet - seems like a distant choice. Disagree? Which other melee minions would you recommend, given my limited spacing issues? (2-3 30mm. minions left of space...)
  10. I have to agree, I do not play Neverborn, and don't intend to start, but I've heard - since coming to this game in late April this year - that Wyrd was the bees' knees regarding community interactions, a company that actually - no really - ACTUALLY listened to the concerns of the community, and it would be a shame if this would to be proven false (over time) as scaling issues and what-not occurs with every other release, it seems (not as bad, but disheartening non the less). The main reason I left the-company-that-shall-not-be-named after close to 20 yrs. was the feeling total disregard of the community, and i mean TOTAL disregard, which made me feel that the time and monieses I spend on miniatures should go to a worthier game, voila! Malifaux. I personally feel that a single mini here or there isn't the end of the world, but there are quite a few now, and it is off-putting to me as a gamer/collector to shy away from using all my death marshalls becouse one of 'em is so obviously miss-scaled as to be ridiculous. And that, is something that would make me not buy a box of X; knowing that a mini is "wrong", in terms of scale or 3d render perspective issues or what have you, and at the end of the day that's one box worth of monises less in the bank. And no, Wyrd (or any other miniature company) doesn't "owe" me - or any gamer/collector - anything simply because I support their company, but a healthy ear to the ground as it were, is never a bad thing for any buisness.
  11. Hello, I've (more or less) decided that my last crew to fit into my Battlefoam bigbag shall be Mei Feng and c:o (I will not get a 2nd bag, I will not!). From what I've gathered (coming from Guild & Ressers) her most common buds are the Metal Gamin & the Rail Golem, so they seem like a safe bet to go along side the box itself. I have no more room for bigger models other than the Golem, I might be able to squeze in a Large Arachnid, if I shuffle things around a bit. Other than that, I'd say I'll have about 3-4 slots left after the initial purchase. What to fill 'em up with? Playing Hoffman I already have the Ramos box - for Howard & Joss - and I'll slightly convert the totem to be a Large Arachnid, and Hoff' likes himself some Soulstone Miner, which I also have. A Mobile Toolkit is also already in the bag. Other than that, no more Archanist models. I've been looking at the Arcane Effigy, which seems like a solid piece to add to Mei Feng. For the TT angle? I have the TT Bros. unassembled, and the Yan Lo box + Toshiro & Izamu, but I feel there really isn't any synergy there. Perhaps the Dawn Serpent, which would unfortunatly eat most of the space left... Thoughts?
  12. Hi, and welcome to the game, as a fellow Hoffman player I feel for your friend, as box .vs. box it seems rather a poor matchup (Note: I do not play Lucius myself). It seems Lucius really comes into his own when other (arguably better) Guadsmen come into play, such as Riflemen (Dashel & a couple of them guys really pack a punch). Strong minions such as Illuminated which Lucius, if Neverborn, has access to (while keeping said guardsman trio as mentioned above with Surprisingly Loyal) is a good choice. Lucius really likes minions, good ones, and with such minions he really has the potential to shine. Right out of the box I can see the Lucius crew struggling somewhat, with the lack of a beatstick and dedicated schemerunners.
  13. Hi and welcome to the forum, from what you're saying it seems like Lady J is the dame for you, for the reasons you've stated. It also gives you a good jumping of point for further expansion into other crews within the Guild. In terms of fun, Lady J can't be beat (some times literally) and of the three above I'd rank her highest. She's easy to use/hard to master kind of deal. Pandora can be quite tricksy and frustrating, for you or your opponent depending on who's doing what wrong... and is thusly not a master I'd recommend to start with. Of Rasputina I can say only this: no one likes a master whos sole purpose is handing out slow... no one, not even the player playing her...
  14. WARNING!!! BLOCK OF TEXT! WARNING!!! Hi one and all and merry jada-jada-jada etc. I have two questions: what to buy next, to round out my bigbag and starting something completely isolated from said bag, read on! I've found myself in a bit of a pickle, regarding what space I have left in my custom Malifaux Battlefoam bigbag. Namely space left for seven(7) new models, excluding any monstersize miniatures (Rail Golem etc.) due to the bottom deeptray being full to bursting. And before anyone says anything - no - I will not get a second bag... does it look like I'm made of monies?!!1! (not a second bag for the same Faction choices anyway, read on!) I have a lot of Guild and Ressers (next to no Spirits, so Kirai is out), a lot. lacking only Lucius, Perdita & McCabe crews for the Guild and Kirai and Tara for the Ressers. There is some overlap to consider; Yan Lo might work as a dedicated TT master (I have the old TT Bros. blister), which might make Mei Feng a candidate for the coveted seven slots. As I also have some Archanist overlap due to Hoffman. Mei Feng + Metal Gamin boxes = done. (I'd be using max 2 of each of the Rail Workers and the Metal Gamin) Leveticus might be an option, due to many Constructs/Undead I already have, but the lack of space for a Desolation Engine (I really would want one!) kind of excludes him, apart from the lack of space for all the Abominations one might expect to pop up during a game. McCabe is out I fear due to the horse being a large a** model. Perdita might do the trick, as she would fit in quite nicely with all the other Guild stuff I have, which is - as I've mentioned - a lot. Lucius seems like an intersting choice, and his combo would be box + Guild Riflemen = Done, excluding the Guild Guards in favor of said Riflemen, as I would most likely only use two of the three. I also own the old Candy, new Doppelganger and might be able to squeeze in Mr. Graves & Mr. Tannen (another TT-overlap) for some Neverborn overlap with the G-Mans' Secretary hisself. Tara is out due to not being available as a box, apart from the Nothing Beast being to large a model for the spaces left. And that's about it, my thoughts on bag space. What say you? Question nr. 2: I would still like to be able to support my debilitating habit of small plastic models, preferable Malifaux ones, and I'm looking at a Battlefoam mini-bag, with just the one tray (or possible if any of you lot can direct me at a similar one, with two layers of foam, same size) for a new Faction, completely lacking overlap to the first big a** bag of mine - the reasoning being that if I choose the either or the or, that's my model selection for the day, with no thoughts to: "Argh! if I only had brought my x-bag also I could have whipped out this or that model!!1!" So a Faction completely lacking overlap potential, the way I see it it leaves me with some Outcast options and the Gremlins. Outcasts (nevermind that they're mercenaries and would be able to interact with the bigbag you!): I can see myself with the Viks/Von Schill, and a box/model for them besides the crewbox, with some space for a small amount of other models to support said Outcast crewbox. What other boxes/models do the Viks/Von Schill play nicely with? Again, big models might be a problem, but I don't know the actual depth of the minibag variant. The other option are Gremlins, which have little to no overlap (since Brewmaster will never be released, the TT angle is moot). I quite like Som'er, and I quite like Pigs. So a Som'er/Ulix (when released) combo might be an option? I must confess the mysteries of the Gremlins elude me, and I'm lost in the Bayou as to what models work with what Masters and so on. A minibag (with two layers?) might have a problem fitting the big Pigs in such a scenario, but others might have a better idea of that fits where and how with the more modest mini-bag option. There I'm done! Thank you for your time!
  15. Saw the related post on the Asylum Crew, which may or may not be on the horizon (havn't heard the podcast, so not sure). But it got me thinkin', while I fail to see another Faction getting here any time soon (as seen in other thread), I can envision (after the release of the Avatar: III book) a fourth book with additional masters, lifted into the limelight from the dark recesses of the background stories. I can see that this new - fourth - book, and the crews therein, will be release before the Brewmaster... ...Anywho... If the Asylum Crew is indeed on the way, and it is a Guild Asylum, this crew would be Guild, surely? Or dual Guild/Outcast yes? So what is then left for the other Factions? For Ressers the obvious choice would be Prof. Von Schtook, a crewbox with the Mad Prof. hisself, a totem of some kind and the three students in alternate sculpts (the Punk Zombies have so many, why should academically inclined undead have to settle for one(1) measly sculpt?!) alá the new Hoffman box, while leaving the Transmortis U. box available for the original sculpts and an awesome hench(wo)man in the form of The Valedictiorian. I must say my knowledge of the backstories aside from the above-mentioned-Resser one is limited at best. Care to take it from here forumites?
  16. ...In case he wants to buy himself something nice for x-mas?
  17. Hi, I saw this on Malifaux Swedens social media with a facepage. Simple question: How many models have you bought/bartered/begged/threatened your way into this year, and of those models, how many have you actually painted? For my part, speaking in %, I'd say that of the 60 or so models I've aquired this year (my first) I've managed (so far, three+ weeks left!) to paint roughly 90% of 'em. For me, that's an insane ratio, and a testament to the strenght of the game itself; making me exited for miniature gaming again.
  18. Hi all, I was thinking of going with Molly (depending on strategy/schemes) for tomorrows game, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is she's suppose to do. What is her strenghts? Sure, she has a summoning mechanic which is unique, but I find that even a HtK model will snuff it farily soon after summons, and other models sooner still, which makes her summons a bit situational (aside from the short range and auto-slow on the summoned minions). What say you of summons? Compared to Nico it seems a bit lackluster (vs. Kirai and the Spirit side, I have no experience). Going offensive? She can make another model take (1)AP, but only once, which seemes to me - again - to be inferior to the ability of say Nico to give out Fast (which in essence is another AP). Reactivate is nice, but both are (0)'s, and only viable through the Gorgon-upgrade. She can give negative flips and hand out slow/paralyze with attack actions, which is nice, but her role isn't to be a beatstick/damage dealer, and so I'd go with the good doctor for those kinds of scenarios. She seems inferior as a support master, as she lacks the abilities to keep her minions going (and giving them goodies in the Nico-bubble o' Dooooom). Again, compared to the Undertaker, she seems behind. So which is her role, at what strategy/schemes will she outshine the other Resser Masters out there? Also; I've only ever heard one podcast with Molly as the topic (can't seem to recall which one). Are there others out there of interest?
  19. I rarely get into discussions about this versus that and so on... but I just felt I have to agree with the op and all the rest, Malifaux really has given me a fourth (or fifth) go at this tabletop thingamagig of ours, as I've been - for years - been a sideliner to the decline of the company that shall not be named, after a good 20 yrs. of support. I just feel the game is not for me anymore, and all my investments (which are many and varied) are for nought to these people, which make me very sad indeed. It seems they are more interested in selling things than providing a fun and challenging gaming enviroment. What makes me happy however, is the feeling that in Malifaux, no matter which master, no matter which crew, all are - more or less on the same footing, and that, if anything is a sign of a strong core mechanic, which is something I've been longing for for some years now. I feel I can play with the models I want to play with, not the once I have to play with to avoid auto-lose come turn 2. For the first time in ages I've been lookng forward to gaming nights, and painting sessions; "need to finish my Iron Zombies so I can show the guys who's the bees' knees and what not." etc. So, if by an off chance the developers might see this: keep up the good work, and never let profit and shortsighted goals cloud your judgement, a game is only ever as good as the community which supports it.
  20. ...is a Witchling Handler. Have Paypal or other means of payment (please don't ask...). I'm sure the plastic version will be superior, but it might be months and months and months away. To further my agenda I have decided that if niceties fail, threats will surely prevail. Failure to meet my very reasonable demands will be met with a link to Mariah Careys "All I want for Christmas is You". You have been warned...so make with the Handler, ey? Based in Sweden.
  21. Well...not to, you know, step on any toes or anything, but...isn't Ryle, you know, Socially Repressed?
  22. Forgive my ignorance, but why would the 'Hoff benefit from getting a (more then anyone else) from Temporary Limb (which I take it you mean by O.S.A the (0).)? Doesn't Hoffman (with the proper looped in Metal Gamin) succeed on very low cards to begin with? Being a Support Master and all, and not needing moderate or high cards, it seems that the would be more beneficial elsewhere. Or am I missing something? I can see the benefit in increasing your chances of getting the right trigger-suits, but at the price of 2ss and 1AP, in addition to the cost of the Arachnid itself, I'm not so sure it is soulstones well spent. That being said; once I get over my fear of assembling - and slightly converting - Ramos Brass Arachnid, I'll certainly give it a go. (Oh the joints, the small, small joints...)
  23. Hi, quick question, in a recent game Dr. McM. accidentally overdosed on his own poison (there is such a thing as too much of "the good stuff"), my opponent revealed Assassinate as one of his schemes. We played it as a successful scheme, since the scheme itself just says "killed or sacrificed", and even if the FAQ states that no "model or crew" counts as having made the kill - regarding death by condition - the scheme itself doesn't seem to require any involvment from a model or a crew to begin with. What say you?
  24. Realising that it would be a difficult task indeed, what with the various strategys and schemes and whatnot during the games, it would still be nice if the people participating in above event would share some wisdom regarding which masters and crews they took, and why. Perhaps there will be an eye-opener or two.
