  1. Thanks for all your comments guys! As for the process, I always lay down my base skin tone over the whole model with an airbrush (my airbrush isn't very nice and the needle is huge so I can't use it for any detail) before brush painting the highlights up and moving on to the other parts of the mini. I think that makes it easier to put on multiple thin layers later on. I also think that using the skin tone as a sort of base cote for everything else helps tie the colors in to make the models look unified. To help mute the colors for the Poltergeist and Sorrow and tie the bottom and top together a little more, I mixed the grey skin tones into the purple for the fire effect. I left the greys in as I worked up in lightness, then left the grays out using pure purple going to white for the final highlights.
  2. Think I got my photo posting problem fixed!
  3. Rotten Belles are great but typically don't hit too hard, so picking up a model that can dish out some extra damage may be a good start. If you're sticking to wave 1, Punk Zombies might be a good choice (I don't have any experience with them personally but I see them mentioned a lot on the forum). The Hanged might also be an interesting choice for something a little different with extra WP based duels. If you're open to wave 2, Dead Doxies have the Belle characteristic so benefit from Sybelle's abilities that affect those type of models. Or, since the new sculpts aren't out yet, just pick up the arsenal box and use Seamus as a proxy since they're all on 30mm bases. This way your friend can try different things out and see what works and is fun to use before throwing down for the actual models.
  4. I was reading through the thread on Paralyzed and Obey, and just noticed that when a model is Paralyzed its melee range is considered zero, or no range, not really sure if that makes a difference. The wording in the rulebook page 52 states "The range of all Melee Actions a model has is considered () while it is affected by the Paralyzed Condition, and will therefore not engage enemy models." Does this mean that a paralyzed model cannot attempt a disengaging strike? Would it change anything if the models were in base contact instead of just normal engagement range?
  5. Thanks again for all the great tips! I've uploaded some pictures to photobucket (added some of my Tannen and Graves too) until I can post here directly. I'd love to hear what people think of my attempts at plaid as well as tips for people who've had success with this in the past. I've never done any freehand work before and think this came out okay but that the colors could have been a bit stronger in the pattern. Thoughts? http://s995.photobucket.com/user/patrickandrew0860/library/Malifaux%20Neverborn
  6. Thanks for the suggestion Omenbringer! I've heard of liquid green stuff but never tried it. I've tried using the normal putty kind but have some difficulty working with it. Glad to know that the liquid may make it easier. Also, any advice on getting these photos loaded? The originals were taken on my camera, and I just tried again with pictures from my phone (both sets saved as jpg files). The system keeps telling me that the file type isn't supported though. Checked and I'm also under the max size for the file.
  7. Anyone know how to take a thread down lol?
  8. I got into Malifaux just before the release of M2E and have been loving the new plastic sculpts. They're really what drew me to the game more than anything. I've never had much luck as a gamer - can't seem to wrap my mind around strategy - so I just collect and play with the models I think look coolest! I'm about halfway through the Pandora box and I've got to say the models are absolutely amazing! I don't normally dig on anything with sculpted fire, but these are making me reconsider. Definitely some of my favorites from any range! I'm pretty happy overall with the final product though think my highlights could have gone a little further and I'm terrible at filling gaps. Any comments and tips are welcomed and appreciated! (botched adding the photos - trying to fix this now)
  9. What models - minions in particular - are people finding useful with Pandora? It seems like she has a couple great choices when it comes to enforcers and henchmen, but her minion options other than Sorrows I'm not so sure about. Or are Pandora list just most effective with fewer but better enforcers/henchmen with the right upgrades?
  10. I've been using the town square bases Woe mentioned on my Pandora crew and love the look. They really tie in well with the idea that she and her minions are stalking around the streets of Malifaux feeding off of the emotions of the citizens. Just keep in mind that the Sorrow and the Poltergeist models are pretty large at the bottom when you're looking at bases. The Sorrows in particular almost completely cover their 30mm bases, and positioning the Poltergeist on a base with raised details - even at 50mm - is more challenging than it seems.
  11. Another great addition to a Seamus list is the Nurse. At 5ss they're a great bargain utility piece. They won't kill much (anything) directly, but by discarding a card to gain the suit you can pretty much guarantee the trigger of your choice on Take Your Meds. In my most recent game, I held up both Lilith and a Mature Nephilim for 2 turns with a single Nurse (granted their base WP is pretty low and I had good flips) by hitting Paralyze the first time around and Hallucinogens the second time (as they weren't in melee range this is as good as paralyze for game purposes). Can't advocate taking one enough! Canine remains are also good cheep scheme runners (6" walk) and the -1DF while within 1" of an enemy can help out the weaker members of your crew. Another model I've liked recently is Rogue Necromancy. Like the Doxies he's still in Beta, but can pack a pretty nasty punch and gives a ranged attack option to the crew.
  12. These are stunning. Amazing work!
  13. Nurses are super versatile with their Take Your Meds attack - either buffing your crew or debuffing the enemy depending on the situation - and add a lot to the crew for their low point cost. Ca 6 is pretty reliable, and their Illegal Prescriptions ability helps make sure you can almost always get off something useful. One can really make a difference!
  14. These look amazing! I especially like the strong contrast between the greenish skin tones of the Belles and their bright clothing and the pale skin on Seamus and CCK and their dark jackets. I'm about to start painting my own Seamus crew and you've definitely set the bar high for what you can achieve with this set. Well done!
  15. I just picked up the Seamus crew and don't have any playtime in yet, but there's a pretty nasty Rasputina crew (so far undefeated in M2E) in our local gaming group that I'm trying to plan ahead for. She's mainly run casting through the Ice Gamins with her Mirror ability (or whatever that ability is called). My idea was to just use the Belles to Lure the Gamins out of range for Mirror and have Seamus and CCK deal with them individually as they seem to fall pretty quickly. Thoughts on this or other good tactics against Raspy? Related, do Seamus's and Sybelle's Terrifying abilities affect the Gamins/Ice Golem since they are constructs? I know its Terrifying (All) but I thought I read somewhere that constructs were immune to horror duels.
  16. Great work! I'm glad you got "carried away" with the theme and had it come through so strongly. It's one thing to have a cool idea, but another to carry it through and execute it as well as you did. Well done!
  17. Great work! I really like the contrast between the green flames and the somber tones in the rest of the models.
  18. So I'm handling frustration over the progress of my Misaki crew in pretty much the worst way possible - ordering more minis! To work on something with a different feel, I'm planning on doing a set of Guild Riflemen. I love the sculpts, but I'm having trouble deciding on a color scheme. I've recently found some great tutorials on worn leather, but I'm not sure my painting skills are up to the challenge. With so much fabric on the models, I'm also afraid they'll end up looking a bit drab in a mostly brown. Any suggestions for a unique color scheme or ideas on ways to make a leather clad sharpshooter stand out a little more?
  19. Hi grimbergen, were you able to find a gaming group in the area?
  20. Thanks Zomnambulist! Right now I juat have the Misaki crew. It's hard to say no to ninjas in general, and I thought a more melee focused crew would be easier to learn the core rules with. I prefer the style of the new plastics to the older metals, so I'll probably wait until a few more crews are rereleased before I pick up another. With any luck I'll have Misaki and co painted by then!
  21. Hi everyone! My name is Patrick and I'm a new player from Los Angeles. I'm a long time gamer but was only recently introduced to Malifaux while visiting family over the summer. I went into their local gaming store looking for GW miniatures but came out with my first Malifaux crew instead! I was instantly hooked by the mythology, amazing miniatures and unique game mechanics. Since I've only had really limited exposure to actual game play, it'd be great to find a local group to teach a newcomer. Any and all suggestions welcomed!
