  1. Well, in that case Thottbot, here you go!  This is how far I got yesterday.  The white areas are raised with foamboard.  The lower dark areas are cut from a sheet of cobblestone plastic.  There will be a 2" (50 mm) sidewalk of flagstone on the outer edges of the raised area.  I am thinking of doing this in the flagstone cut from cardboard I have seen others do to great effect.  It is time intensive, but only a few thin areas so I think reasonable.  The large area on the lower left will be the inside of the factory, and the outside of the wall parallel to the sidewalk will have a low foundation of large rectangular stone blocks.  The wall above that will be wooden.  I have not decided upon the inner floor material yet.  I have lots of ideas of terrain for inside the factory, so it is going to be full of cover.  I still need to come up with several pieces of blocking terrain for the streets, but picked up the Wyrd street scatter terrain in resin recently.  Maybe a larger cart or two as well will be needed.

  2. I am beginning a new Malifaux board that will be Ramos' assembly facility where his army of many-legged minions originates.  The plan is to have the facility take up ~1/3 or so of the board and have streets outside where a few buildings and a town square can be modified during different games.  The base of the outer wall will be fixed in place, just a low row of stones, so that the wall itself can be added but not transported in place.  All other terrain will not be fixed in place.  The cobblestone street material is not in its final location.

I began with 1" x 2" pvc 'lumber' and a sheet of hardboard.  I cut rabbet grooves in the sides to hold the hardboard surface.  I cut 1/4" slices of the pvc and glued them to the lower surface (right image) to stop any bowing down of the middle of the playing surface.  The staples in the corners were just added to hold the 45' cuts in place while the glue dried.  The results seems like a good compromise between strength and weight.

  3. Hello fellow challenge painters!  It is finally time for me to start building my Arcanist Arthropod Assembly Facility board.  I will have the details on this project over in Terrain Talk for those interested.  This month I am going to do three pieces of terrain for the board.  Two 5" blocking terrain statues that will sit in a town square in front of the facility and be used for some schemes and strategies.  The third piece will be the outer walls of the assembly facility (foam core and basswood in the background).

@Franchute, I know you stated that terrain must be larger than a 5 mm base, but is that larger in all dimensions, or will being 5" tall make the statues work?  If not, I will rethink what terrain I work on.

  4. Hello all.  I thought I had posted this 2 days ago, but must not have hit the Submit button.  Here is my May pledge coming in late.  Going to do Ferdinand Vogel and the Beast Within, both on Wyrd's Victorian Ruins bases.  Throwing in a Tengu to get to 12 SS, unless there was a rule about 0 SS models (I will looks this up in the guidelines).  Cheers.

  5. With 65 minutes to spare, here is my second of the two Rougarou that I pledged for March.  The brown dirt is Citadel's Alien Ironearth, but it will be April before it dried and gives that sweet cracked mud look.  I really enjoyed painting these models.  I tried them out for the first time this week and they are vicious---so may extra attacks when you throw them into the opponent!

That is 2 x 8 = 16 SS for March for me, Franchute.

    Hey HoosierSS!

We have a bit of a group up here in Laf/W Laf as well.  If you ever want to come join in on Tuesdays (and some weekends) at the FLGS, just let me know.  BTW: we have a tournament going on this Saturday---going to be a blast.

Maybe I can convince a few of the gang to head down there for a game sometime this spring.

    Cheers.

    and was able to resize

Just in case folks are interested in options for resizing.  I usually get my photos for posts down to about 150 kb fairly quickly.  I use GIMP, which is free and open source.  Works like a non-proprietary Photoshop.  If interested:

Fire up GIMP and open the photo.

Image | Scale Image: to reduce the size and dpi: you won't see a difference with most monitors anyway.  I scale to 200 by 200 dpi, and 1600 x 1200 size (dpi is really meaningless, it's the number of pixels in the image that matters).

Tools | Transformation | Crop: to crop to the mini.

File | Export As: to save as a jpg or other format.  Just using 'save as' will save it as a GIMP file with all the associated settings.  I export a jpg and then close down without saving the gimp.

Hope this helps a few people.  Cheers.

  9. Well, once I sat down to take the photo of the first model, I figured I may as well stay there and finish up my War Pig.  Egad, gremlins are tiny!  Don't know how people painting them all the time stay sane.  Here is the second of my two pledged beasts for February.

    Corrupted hound (3 SS) + War pig (9 SS) = 12 SS

Just the minimum, but I did also paint up a gang of 10 Necromunda models so couldn't over-do it.

  10. large.2018Feb_beasts_pledge.jpg.15d0e5d19a1913c3a078cea571f36a8b.jpgTime to post a February pledge.  Many things on the plastic to-do pile, so I am pledging the minimum for my level this month.  War pig (9SS) & a corrupted hound (3 SS)---can't have too many beasts, after all.

@Burnin' CoalThat taxidermist is excellent!  Every time I see one of your finished models it reinforces in my mind that I need to expand my color palette and dial up the contrast.  And practice more.  :)

... forgot to upload photo before writing post.  Is it just me that always does this?  Please stand by ...

Thanks for the correction Burnin' Coal!  The taxidermist I mentioned was by indeed by Rust and the City.
