  1. A work-in-progress picture of my September pledge of Kaeris and her new buddy alt-Firestarter.  I am still searching for the right base for Kaeris.  I want to try to have her coming in for a landing, just a bit off the ground, so I need something with a tall feature to support her from behind but not so massive that it dominates the scene.  One of the new Wyrd cemetery bases could work, but haven't decided if it is a bit too rezzer for her.  Happy painting everyone!

  2. An hour and a half to go, and I too am just coming in under the wire.  Ended up with something work-related every other evening this week and so had to speed-paint tonight.  Oh well, I should know better than to leave things for the final week.  These 2 steamfitters bring me to 17 SS:  2 x 6 SS steamfitters + 5 SS crates terrain.

    Cheers all.

  3. My first mini to be finished this month is the crates terrain.  I may go back some day in the future and add some green wire to the ivy vine---the leaves work great with this Army Painter feature, but when there are clumps spread apart I think it would benefit from making the central vines more visible.  Calling it done for now for the first 5 SS of the month. 2 Steamfitters still to come.  Cheers all.

@Franchute: those Kentauri are just amazing.  I think I can smell them from here.  :)

  4. Here is the progress on my August pledge.  I need to go back and touch up a few places on the pile of crates scatter terrain where it did not take the wash.  Then I will add some mud caked on the bottom and a weed or two beside them.

I am happy with how the steamfitter bases came out and that they fit around the pipes without doing a balancing pose.  I just have some of the base colors down on the actual mini's so far. I noticed after priming that the male steamfitter is not picking his teeth with the screwdriver as planned, which would not be a very good tool for that anyway.  Rather, he is closely inspecting the end of the screwdriver, perhaps to see if he just dislodged any bits of food?  These are going to take a lot of different colors and edge highlighting as there are a lot of small details that I want to have show up.

  5. 11 hours ago, Butch said:

But IMO the eyes look too artificial.

Thanks Butch!  I really struggle with eyes.  I think I need to experiment with some flow aid or other paint additives.  If I thin, the paint tends to run into all the creases.  Something going on with the adhesion of the paint to the surface or with the surface tension---not sure which.  I will try to add some character to the eyes when I get her under the brush again, though.

  6. I have always wanted to run a Marcus crew that was all dogs and cats, just for fun.  I haven't built the list yet as I still have hoarcats and hounds sitting unbased.  But, it could include:

    Hoarcats

    Rugarou

    Corrupted hounds

    Sabertooth cerberus

  7. Thanks, Lucious!  I am using thin basswood panels from the hardware store.  They were about 6 inches by 36 inches.  I use a hobby knife to slice them into strips that are roughly the same width, but I freehand it to make them a bit wavy.  I use the same hobby knife to score vertical 'ends' in the boards at random distances from the end.  The finish is actual wood stain, golden oak from Minwax.  It is a lot of surface area, so I use a 1" wide brush, not a hobby brush.  Cutting before staining prevents light-colored edges.  The boards are then just fixed to the wall with Gorilla construction adhesive.  This stuff is great as it is viscous enough to slap them right onto vertical surface.  The end view of the wall shows that put the bottom panel completely against the wall and then just overlap the bottom of each subsequent board as I go up.  Hope this helps!

  8. I made a bit of progress on the spider factory board.  I need to cut and stain more siding boards but the exterior walls are mostly roughed in.  I went with stone blocks around the base of the building.  This serves a double purpose of keeping the walls in place and immobile and serving as cover when the building is not used.  This way the wall can be used or not, but will be locked in place when it is used.  I made these by cutting strips of pink rigid insulation, sanding, and then texturing them with some rocks.

I created a wanted poster for one side to break it up a bit, and a factory sign for above the door.  After I finish up the exterior wall, I plan to do the flagstone sidewalks next.

  9. Here are a few hazardous markers I made for an All Hallows Eve game with the Carver last year.

The hanging tree is made from an antler.  The model is from the male multi-part kit.  Bee hive is green stuff.

The Saarlak thing is a reaper model on a 50 mm base.

  10. Here is my work in progress on Rasputina.  Base colors are down and I did a bit of glazing on the white fabric at the back.  Happy with it so far.  I am forcing myself to finish the model before playing with the base, which is going to be a blast.  Cheers, all.  I hope I run into some of you at Gen Con in Indianapolis in two weeks!

  11. Halfway through the 2018 challenge---you are doing great, Franchute!

This month I am taking the easy way out because I will be going on vacation next week so won't get any actual painting done until mid-month.  I am really excited to finally be tackling one of my new favorite masters though:  Rasputina.  I am going to try to pull off a basing effect that shows her bringing winter to a summer sidewalk.

  12. Just in time, here are my June models.  The wall of the Arcanist Arthropod Assembly Facility is taking longer than planned, but I think will be worth it.  I only got it about half done so I finished a 10 Thunders Archer that was waiting and about 1/2 done.  The 50 mm statue terrain pieces came out okay but much of the stone work I tried didn't come through.  I'm still happy to have these for schemes that require blocking markers and for terrain.

    Almost forgot SS count, Franchute!  2 x 5 SS and 1 x 6 SS = 16 SS for June.

  13. I have the walls of the factory roughed out.  The double doors at the main entrance will let any 50 mm base model though, but the side door will restrict passage to 30 mm.  The bookcase on the upper level indicates where Ramos' office will be. Will be installing some stairs. I have the basswood stained and drying---hope to install the clapboard siding on the outside tomorrow. Inside surface will be stucco with some brick areas showing through. The doors swing open and will be covered with some rustic wood.

In the foreground is the WIP main power source for the assembly line. The piston is 3d printed, and the rest is PVC pipe, hardwood dowel, construction adhesive, and green stuff.  It will be smaller once it is done---stay tuned to see how that is possible.
