  1. Hey again all, update on what I'm planning and where I might be starting. Model buying time soon, and Rasputina and Marcus won the toss for crews I'd like to build. So before I go buying any models I'd like a general yey or nigh on the following so that I can tell if I've got the right idea. Decemburrr Crew Box Sets: Rasputina Alt Sculpt Ice Gamin box set Molemen box set 2 Silent One Packs (converting my own essence of power) Example list [35SS][pool 8]: Rasputina Essence of Power 2 Ice Gamin 2 Molemen 2 Silent Ones Its scary at night! Crew Box Sets: Marcus box set 3 Shikome Packs 2 Night Terror box sets Example List [35SS][pool 6]: Marcus Jackalope Myranda 2 Shikomes 3 Night Terrors Right, those were the custom "starter" sets I was thinking of getting so I can start learning the game. Any thoughts? I'm going purely by theory as I've only read the rules and not actually played a single game yet.
  2. Thankfully this was the route I was looking for, ways to trigger the avatar, without having to invest in Snowstorm, on the surface December Acolyte still helps. I was hoping to invest in 2 December Acolytes, 2 Silent Ones, an Ice Gamin and rasputina with essence and avatar. So you can see where I was hoping to go with all that. Anyway the rules have been cleared up regarding blasts now. If a moderator could lock the thread I don't see it needing to stay open any longer.
  3. The FAQ straightens everything out. Its sorta like saying that if the Acolyte were to be affected by the blast in this clarification he'd end up being hit twice, which isn't the case as you've already said. Everyone gets hit once, the target gets a special hit. Thanks, I'm a little disappointed, but I can't say that it doesn't fix quite a powerful combo if blast damage were the case. Still works with Molemen to a certain extent. They could be cheated to only cause 1 Damage, no?
  4. Sorry could you explain that a little better. Why doesn't the Acolyte suffer a blast and instead suffers a regular damage amount? I'm looking at the rules for blasts now and don't see this in there. It mentions nothing about the target suffering a regular hit whilst near by models suffer blasts. The steps I'm seeing are: Flip for damage total (minor, moderate, severe). Place (or even :blast) if required. Must touch the Target, and mustn't overlap each other if more than one. [*]apply damage If a red Joker is flipped apply its version of effect instead. [*]apply triggers or abilities. As I read it now, I don't see anything suggesting that the damage isn't a . Looking a Rasputina's "December's Curse" spell, it lists it as 5:blast:blast, so thats 2 blasts with a Damage of 5. If I were to interpret it as Damage of 5 and two blasts that don't affect the target, then people near by would end up taking more damage than the Target, which makes no sense at all.
  5. Hello all, I've yet to start the hobby, just reading the rules and deciding what models to buy myself after I'm gifted my starter models end of the month (yippie). I've been looking at the v2 rules for the Arcanists. My question is regarding the "December Acolyte" and the Spell "December's Curse". If I target my December Acolyte with this spell and bring the damage up to Severe, and so let the :blast happen, can I use his "Bearskin Armour" to ignore the "damage" inflicted by the spell? In other words, will said :blast still affect near by models that just so happen to be hit by them? (And so cause some unfortunate blighter to take 8 damage if hit by both) I checked PullMyFinger's Wiki page on the model to see if this tactic got a mention, but couldn't find anything and checked the rules for blasts and I've found nothing to contradict it, yet. Thoughts? Anything stopping this being the case? All I found on the Wiki was a load of poor reviews, despite a rather decent model when supported correctly by the looks of it.
  6. Ah, I found the Post about the October Demos that were at Stafford games, thank you for the heads up. I'll keep the two Henchman in mind once I have my models and see if a Demo can be arrange or if they can give me any information about gaming clubs. Also Stafford Games is thankfully not to far away from my university so I'll keep an eye out for future events there. Ah, well depending on what feedback I can find on using Myranda then you may have changed my mind. The model remains gorgeous so I will still get her just to paint. The large collection of beast models is the down side to using her since you would have to swap in for what ever you wish to transform into. I'll look into that posters posts, thank you.
  7. Thank you all for the replies. I had a feeling that it'd end up being like that. I was looking at combining Myranda with Rasputina, I had a look at the Marcus box set which gives a rather odd starter set in my opinion for Marcus, but since I want Myranda paying a few pounds more for Marcus is a sweet enough deal. Any tips with Myranda in a Rasputina crew? I'm looking at a Malifaux Raptor combo so that I can turn Rasputina (or a silent one if I prefer) into a beast and then offer support with (1) spells. With the flexibility to turn into a Melee beast when needed. Not the first time someone has seen that combo, I'm sure. Sorta makes Myranda a pseudo mega-totem, which supports the group quite well.
  8. Hi all, come late December I'll be looking to get into Malifaux, starting with a December crew (fitting I know). I'm local to the Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford areas (UK, Staffordshire) so if anyone wants to contact me for a game that'll be good as there doesn't seem to be a henchman for these areas. I have a question regarding my understanding of the "crew picking" rules which will help me to expand as I progress in the hobby. You draw for mission and location, and state your faction before selecting your crew. I want to know how these translate to competitive environments. For example when I come to choosing my crew, is there anything stopping me choosing from say Rasputina or Marcus as my Master since they are both Arcanists. Also how does this translate to Tournaments? I'm guessing there are some form of restrictions, since terrain would probably be pre planned, and maybe even the mission being played as well. I ask because choosing between Rasputina for missions involving destroying the enemy and having Marcus for missions involving objectives seems a good idea. Anyway, it'll be nice to get started at the end of the month Thanks all.
