  1. C6 goes in front right between the 2 halves of the skirt? its basically a tie holding the skirt / pants up. ---------- Post added at 09:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:57 AM ---------- i did as well. really looks like its supposed to go there.
  2. if you have any interest in tournament play i'd suggest Colette as many tournaments are single faction and then you are free to use her of raspy or kaeris depending on the strategy, terrain, and opponent. Otherwise they are all vastly different than raspy and Kaeris so go with whatever strikes ur fancy!
  3. if she isn't in melee can she use ice mirror to cast a spell through a model in melee?
  4. doing the same thing with the last image you posted in this thread (taken with the daylight setting on the camera using the flash) changed the colorization to turn down the red and also turned down the contrast to make the shadows a little less harsh and this is what I came up with. I'd imagine the first one is more color accurate since the light was more consistent in it (but the second looks better overall because it was more well lit.
  5. looking good! setting the white balance to the actual type of light you're shooting in should make a big difference on getting accurate color reproduction. If you're still not happy with the color in the second shot it's probably because the flash is a different color of light than day light so it's probably introducing some color distortion into the shot. This can be seen more clearly by looking at the color of the white paper in the background. See how it looks white in the day light shot but when the flash is added in it looks more reddish? I think you'll get best results using the day light setting at a brighter time of day. Another option you can use to help out with the shadows is point some lights from the side not directly at the model but try to bounce them off the ceiling to give a softer light. Don't forget to change your white balance setting if you're shooting with mostly halogen or florescent (or incandescent) light! Another option I didn't bring up before is many photo editing software will let you set white balance in the shot by clicking on a part of the shot that is white. Choose the white paper and tell the software that is what white is supposed to look like and it will adjust everything to compensate. This solves the problem of using other lights but won't help if the white paper is mostly lit by one color of light and ur mini is getting a lot of another color. EDIT: Just for reference i took the first photo in this post (the one that was way to red, and edited it using photoshop to tune the red down a little bit (that I assume is coming from your flash). Not perfect as there is more of the red light on the center of the image than on the edges so either the edges look a little too cyan or the center looks a little to red, but does this look any closer to how it looks in real life?
  6. those are some pretty good setting choices for a camera phone. you could try setting the white balance to day light to see how you like those results. Just to be clear the daylight isn't coming through tinted windows right? I think that has most to do with the fact that it's a cell phone camera. Not much you can do to fix that with editing.
  7. I actually kinda like how the Kang model looks, I just feel like he should be 25% larger, especially on a 40mm base.
  8. the unedited indirect natural light shot looks pretty close. I would try it using a bend sheet of paper as a background, will help with editing to get a more consistent result. What type of camera are you using? might be the settings you're shooting with. Even point and shoots usually let you choose what lighting condition you're shooting in.
  9. I'm just trying to be helpful to people who want to learn more about photographing their miniatures without spending a lot of time or money. If I wanted to have an offensive tone I would post a link like this http://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+use+gimp JUST KIDDING! I'm sorry lazy was totally not the word I meant to use, I was just trying to get out a lot of information quickly and didn't reread my post to reflect my message. I'll go edit it, I'm sorry if it came off the wrong way.
  10. I'm pretty sure the context of this thread was for people who didn't want to need to learn to use a complicated program like gimp or photoshop and wanted decent pictures so suggesting they build or buy a lightbox is probably not something they're going to do. You're right tho I use a homemade lightbox (and this guide on strobist is a really great way to make one really cheap http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/07/how-to-diy-10-macro-photo-studio.html) and it will really help get better results. I'd argue that you'll get the best results with a light box and a single temperature of light. Also my post wasn't suggesting a single light source it was suggesting multiple sources of the same color of light. IE multiple lamps with the same brand / style of bulb in them. If anyone wants more info about shooting with off camera lights here is a little write up I did on them (if linking to a public note on facebook works) never tried this before. http://www.facebook.com/notes/jamie-lumsden/testing-out-the-studio-lights/10151058880924454
  11. i haven't found any info on the emberling, mei fends totem. can you share some?
  12. omg finally a thread i can help with. Now personally before I get flack from the photography purists I use photoshop and off camera studio flashes when I want great pictures of my poorly painted mini's but for the quick and dirty shot or for the inexperienced photographer there are some quick and dirty tips that will help improve ur photos a lot. Easy to use software is important for people just getting started. I think gimp is too complicated for people that aren't looking to remove blemishes from their photos, they just want to post a picture that looks good on the web. Lots of free image management software like iphoto and windows live photo gallery will have white balance options. They work pretty well but to get good results with them you need to follow the second tip. Consistent Light. Good light is great, consistent light is better. If you need to you can brighten up a photo in any of the above mentioned software. the problem you're having with colors not balancing out right (even after white balancing) is caused by different sources of light. different light bulbs, the flash on your camera, and the sun, all put out different colors of light and if you're trying to fix the redness coming from one source of light, you're going to bring out the green from another source. First of all don't use the flash on your camera. It's never going to be the same as your room light or day light and by itself its not enough light for your image. Day light is the best but if your room isn't getting enough of it close ur blinds and use the room lights. Ideally set your mini up near one light and bring a lamp over and put it on the other side of the mini to give you multiple light sources (please have the same brand / model of light bulb in both of them). Also keep in mind if you have florescent hanging from the roof and a incandescent in a lamp in the same room they are putting out different colors of light, and will make it hard to balance. When I'm taking photos with my studio lights i'll actually close the blinds and turn off all the lights in the room for the shot (after everythings set up).
  13. Hey nix what brand of plastic glue did you use with the new models? (assuming it worked well)
  14. oh man i wish i had seen this earlier. I'm not sure if i can talk the GF into letting me sneak out tonight for the demo day at such late notice. Thanks so much for running all these awesome events! Can't wait for the tourny.
  15. ratty posted in the gencon official list post:
  16. tree definitely plastic http://twitpic.com/ak88xc
  17. ooh good to know. Thanks for all the feedback guys! Malifauxs my first miniature game and I'm still really new so all the suggestions are really helpful!
  18. the frame for the cover is just some wire from a metal hanger bent into shape and the cloth cover was just left over cloth but my girlfriend sewed the ends into little sleeves for the wire to go through. The hardest part was getting it to fit on a 50mm base. My first few attempts were big enough to hold a ht 2 mini but too big to fit on the base. The wagon is a little taller than my ice golem so I think its about the right height since they're supposed to be ht 4.
  19. yeah i wanted it to be a bit darker and less clean looking but i didnt think i'd be able to get a nice wood grain if i painted it. I was thinking maybe I should have stained it...
  20. My local henchmen did a contest for who could make the best supply wagon. Thought I'd share my entry with you guys!
