  1. Another agree. M2E brings a lot more variety to each Master (already!) and I don't see any impossible matchups quite yet.
  2. What do you suppose the proper word (demonym) would be to describe a person from Malifaux? Malifauxan - (Minnesotan, Tucsonan, Bavarian) Malifauxian - (Bostonian, Hamiltonian, Edmontonian) Malifauxnian - (Torontonian, Panamanian) Malifician - (Phoenician, Malifite - (Tokyoite, Austinite) Malifer - (Londoner, New Yorker) Malifo - (Los Angeleno) Malifene - (Nazarene, Slovene) Malifard - (Spaniard) Malifese - (Congolese, Nepalese, Japanese) Malifauxi - (Bengali, Qatari) Maligian - (Glaswgian, Norwegian) Any other suggestions? Has this shown up somewhere in the fluff that I've missed?
  3. Looks like. On the extreme ends of things it gets silly, but RAW that seems to be how it is. Ex 2 is far more likely to occur than Ex 1... in a gremlin vs arcanist battle you could see this quite easily. It sounds like, design wise, Ht 1 is just not enough height to affect LoS. The remaining issue though is the relativity of vantage point. From the book, vantage point is not a relative trait... if the terrain is standable and ht 2 it is a vantage point. If you take ex 2 and bump everything up a level (A Ht 1 model standing on Ht 2 vantage point shooting at a Ht 1 model behind a Ht 1 wall, with both the target and the wall standing on Ht 1 terrain) the relative height difference are the same, but now the models can see each other. Functionally, vantage point is special. What I like about this system is it is based on a rules-over-table mentality that keeps things clean, much like the new shooting into combat rules. The sacrifice ends up being some corner-case scenarios which seem wonky, but we can cross that when someone makes a Ht 5 model
  4. No kidding eh? I'm pretty happy with this discussion because the rules work well as written. They might seem a little weird to anyone who is used to adding elevation to height to determine LoS but M2E doesn't call for it. Essentially Vantage Point offers a specific advantage to see over terrain equal to or lower than the target. This is a binary ability, you are either on Vantage Point terrain or you are not. When you (or your target) are on vantage point, you can see over terrain equal to or lower in Ht than the lower model. This does mean, however, that if I'm on Ht 2 vantage point and my Ht 3 target is behind Ht 3 blocking terrain I can see the target now since "...Terrain that is equal to or less than the Ht of the lower model is ignored for LoS (but not cover)." Thanks for the help, much clearer now.
  5. Thanks Fetid, I like your description, I'm still missing on one point though: The Vantage Point is Ht 2 (lets say it's at the minimum). The book says "...Terrain that is equal to or less than the Ht of the lower model is ignored for LoS (but not cover)." The key here is "equal to or less than". In Scenario 3 the lower model is Ht 2 and the terrain (the Wall) is Ht 2. It would be ignored by the Vantage Point Shooter. I'm preety sure he can see over the wall? (page 41)
  6. ...and we haven't even discussed Tara mirror matches yet. What if one Tara wants the end and the other doesn't? I presume it would simply be flip a card, does any Tara want a reflip? If so reflip the card. On reflip, does the remaining Tara want to reflip? Resolve.
  7. xKoBiEx, thanks for bringing it up. As written, it looks like this (unless I'm missing something): Scenario 1: Ht 2 Shooter trying to shoot a Ht 2 Target behind a Ht 2 Wall. Shooter can not draw line of sight to Target since neither has a higher Ht than the wall. Scenario 2: Ht 2 Shooter is now standing on a Ht 1 ledge, trying to shoot a Ht Target behind a Ht 2 Wall. Shooter can not draw a line of sight to Target as above. The rules do not add the Ht of the ledge to the Shooter and, since measurement is top down, it is still a Ht 2 aiming at a Ht 2 with an obstructing Ht 2. Scenario 3: Ht 2 Shooter is on Vantage Point terrain trying to shoot a Ht 2 Target behind a Ht 2 Wall, both of which are on the ground. The Shooter can now draw a LoS to the target because of the specific rules of Vantage Point terrain. Is this correct?
  8. It's actually not that bad at all. What Hans does in his turn is not relevant, it's not part of the combo. My only point is that he still gets to take his full, unmodified turn before the combo goes off. He loses almost nothing. You spend one AP from your Dead Marshal to put him in the box (so you need a 5). Tara needs to cast Whispers from Darkness (she needs an 8) which lets her cast Smile (needs an 11 and a stone). Her shot is better than you're giving it credit as well. Even without spending a stone or a high card, Tara has 6 AP over the course of the turn and only two are needed for shooting off the upgrades. She could easily use her first activation to get into a decent position and Focus, and then use her second activation to Whisper/Smile, shoot, shoot. Or even Whisper/Smile, Focus, Shoot if needed. So if I'm running this, I don't spend anything on the pine box (if I screw it up I can try again with the Dead Mrshal's second AP, or even with another Marshal depending on the list) so I just need an 8, a face card and a stone. To shoot once at Sh5:+fate and once at Sh5. When second turn comes around, Tara activates first and Hans is already in the box. If it's important to me I can Whisper/Smile, Shoot, Shoot again, needing an 8 and an 11 and a stone to do so. If not, Tara does whatever he wants a normal. Later that turn Hans gets out of the box and has his full turn. In terms of cost of combo though, it's not accurate to say that Hans' total cost is spent on the combo since he doesn't even lose any of his AP to execute it. The 'cost' is really the 8, the 11, the stone, one AP from Tara to Whisper/Smile and one AP from the Dead Marshal to box the sniper. With the Avatar thing settled (I totally missed that line on page 56), the biggest threat is removing something your opponent has built his list around, such as Maniacal Laugh or some such.
  9. Cool. That was really my only concern, the Avatar thing. Really, it's not a bad combo anyway, since you can get Hans' full turn off before you pine box him and then let him get out for cheap the following turn to get a whole 'nother turn, you're not losing much of anything to make it happen. I'd consider Hans for Tara regardless.
  10. Hans has made me nervous since the beta, not because I think that removing Upgrades is that amazingly powerful or unbalanced, but because creating an ability that can do something nothing else can do opens up a piece of design space that needs to be considered for all future models for the rest of the edition. Again, not a bad thing, but a risky thing. My concern was that with Avatars being Upgrade cards Hans could simply remove them. For the most part, this is mitigated by the highest bidder ability on the front of his card... nice and clean. But here comes Tara. With Hans in a pine box, Tara has no problem using Whispers to action "Smile You Son of a..." and then using her two remaining actions to fire off Avatar-killing shots with her pistol, or even using Whispers again to borrow Hans' rifle. In this case, discarding cards won't save you.
  11. I know, right?! Are The Dragons one Tyrant or two? Does that mean there is a missing Tyrant? Are these all thirteen, with no more? Which Masters' Avatars will have The Tyrant keyword?
  12. Hey folks, Does anyone have any tips on painting zebra stripes? I'm getting ready for the Avatar of Revelation and I'm batting around some ideas.
  13. Top Con Moment: Convincing a friend who was teetering on the fence that yes, he did want to buy Malifaux.
  14. My apologies, typing on the iPad is annoying, so I tend to be brief when travelling. Trick Shooting is a (2) that pushes him, lets him shoot with a to attack and damage and then push again. Mounted Combat was silly because why would a guy need a special way to kick you with the back of his shoe when he is riding a horse and carrying a rifle? Why was that his plan? And if it was his priority, why not bring a knife or sabre or something, so you don't have to rely on reverse-kicking people? It's better this way.
