  1. MALIFAUX NIGHT @ X PLANET This Tuesday April 29th we will be playing games of Malifaux and running demos for new players. If you've been looking to learn about this excellent game, come out and join us! Demos start at 6:00, no need to bring anything, there will be plenty of crews, cards and rules provided. 1012 Burnhamthorpe Rd. E. Mississauga, Ontario 905-949-GAME
  2. Teddy no question. The funny thing is, I still haven't painted him.
  3. Lucius loves his Beckoners, for the reasons you mentioned. I ran one last week with a Lawyer nearby and the effectiveness was surprising. Lucius was able to give the Beckoner up to three free Lures per turn with his Commanding Presence, the Doppelganger got in another three from Mimic and the Beckoner had her own two...
  4. That's my read as well. Good thinking!
  5. We will be holding a four week Malifaux Challenge League from February 3rd until March 3rd. The League will be focused on fun and participation and everyone who completes all of their games will receive an in store discount! Don’t yet have a crew? Purchase one in store and paint it by the end of the League and you will also count as having completed the Challenge. Whether you’re a Malifaux veteran or a brand new player this is a great opportunity to get some games in under the new edition. Here are the rules: Each week we will randomly generate and post an Encounter consisting of a Deployment, Strategy, Scheme Pool and recommended Soulstone limit. Any games played that week will use the generated Encounter. League participants are to play every other participant at least once during the League period. Anyone who completes this challenge will receive a 10% discount off their next Malifaux purchase once the league completes. Wave 1 Models: All Wave 1 models have cards in the box, in their Arsenal decks and in the rulebook itself. They will be used as printed, with the exception of any cards that have received errata (available online). Wave 2 Models: All models which have not been published yet will use their stat cards as of the December 31 update. These rules are available online from the Wyrd forums and a printed copy will be available for reference in the store. Any changes to models after this date will not affect how the models will play during the League. Wave 3 models: Avatars and any other models that become available after December 31st will not be included in the League. Soulstone Limit: The SS limit each week is a recommended level, if both players agree then any other limit can be set. This is to accommodate those individuals who are just getting into the game. See you all through the Breach!
  6. There can be a base, if you really want one! The rest of the crew is here. I tried to consider painting it as nothing, but I wasn't happy with any of the ideas I came up with. I chose green instead.
  7. We will be holding demos at X Planet Games in Mississauga on Mondays for the month of November (with the exception of Remembrance Day). X Planet Games’ hours of operation are Monday to Saturday 12pm-8pm and Sunday 12pm-5pm. We are located at: 1012 Burnhamthorpe Road East. Mississauga, Ontario L4Y 2X6 905.949.GAME(4263) Demos will run from 5:00 until close on Monday November 4, 18 and 25.
  8. Agreed. This is probably the most painless errata I've seem from a miniatures game, and any changes that are needed before Wave 2 goes to print are essentially free. Show me a game that is error free at launch, then I'll buy the complaint.
  9. Finished the Box! Now all that's left is the Dead Marshals, maybe one or two models after that. Images are a little large, so the rest of the crew is at my blog: http://stinkmunk.com/2013/10/18/598/
  10. I sort of agree - Wyrd has a lot on their plates right now, so I understand there are a lot of priorities that are being juggled. The website holds up pretty well, given the changes, but there are two things: If the "Coming Soon" tags could come down off of some of the current range models, that would be great. And the "V2 Statcards" have been a little confusing to new players I've been introducing to the game, the nuance of Version 2 versus Second Edition can get lost.
  11. I think I've settled on low floating islands. I was thinking high before, but I just can't find anything I'll be happy with when it comes to the actual bases. I don't want to leave them black. So I'm going with a simple dark green water look in the base circle, I guess the islands are just floating over the lake. Well that might explain it. Honestly, at this point I'm going to have to finish the models as is and maybe come back to the tentacle thing again in a future month. I need to get back to painting my Guild now that the Wave 2 Beta has added 29 more models to my to do list!
  12. The latest on Tara's Darlings. I have only 2 weeks left to get them done...
  13. Like it, or Avatar of Inebriation
  14. I bought some corkboard a few years back that was too thick to use properly, but was the right thickness for this project. I just superglued them into layers and then carved them into shape once they'd cured. Because layered cork tends to flake apart with gameplay, I ran a long pin through each island to act as rebar. In many cases this pin is also the suspension pin, but in some it's just for support. To keep the edges from rubbing apart I painted two coats of watered-down white glue over all the cork (it's very thirsty) so they are pretty solid at this point. The models are a little top-heavy (especially the metals) so I'll have to get some fishing weights to give them balance (I tried to make the metal ones shorter anyway). Transportation will be an issue, obviously I'm not putting them in foam. I'm going to magnetize the bases and transport them standing up in a metal toolbox. Good thing Malifaux is a small size game! I completely agree. I put some heat on the front tentacles from a hairdryer for half an hour with no effect... the plastic is quite thick at that point. I could cut out a triangle of plastic in the front and have them drape down, made out of putty. The thing is, I'm running a painting challenge and these need to be finished by October 31st, so I think compromise might be in order. I put a little island under the front tentacles supporting the outcropping bit, I think it will serve, but again, Iron Heel, you hit on my one enduring annoyance about this project.
  15. Working on something new... I'm on the A Wyrd Place Facebook group and I've been blown away by a lot of the creativity on that group. I just can't compete brush-to-brush with a lot of the talent on there, so I figured I had to do something different with my Tara Crew to make them stand out. Thus, flying islands: Work in progress, obviously, I'll share more when they're done. I hope to track my progress on my website at www.stinkmunk.com
  16. MALIFAUX PAINTING CHALLENGE October 1 - October 31 In celebration of the release of Malifaux 2nd edition (M2E), X Planet is running a Painting Challenge for the month of October. The goal here is to get as many people as possible painted up and ready to play between now and the end of the month. This is not a painting contest, all you have to do is take your Malifaux Crew from zero to table-ready by Halloween and you are automatically a winner. There are two ways you can participate: I Need A Crew! - Come by the store and purchase a new Malifaux Crew Box from the store and let the staff know you are planning on participating in the Challenge. Bring in you finished crew* by the end of the Challenge period and you get a $5 X Planet Gift Card! I Already Have A Crew! - Come bring your unpainted Crew to the store, purchase the new Malifaux 2E Rulebook and let the staff know you are planning on participating in the Challenge. Bring in you finished crew* by the end of the Challenge period and you get a $5 X Planet Gift Card! We will continue to be running demos in store to make sure everyone has a chance to get acquainted with the new rules. If you can’t make it out on a Monday, contact our local Henchman Andrew at stinkmunk@gmail.com. Best of luck in the Challenge! * A Malifaux Crew consists of the models in any one of the Malifaux Box Sets, or the equivalent at X Planet’s discretion. If you are participating under I Already Have A Crew! your Crew can be assembled and primed already but can’t be painted before you sign up. Your Crew is considered finished if it meets a three colour minimum and you’re proud to say it’s complete.
  17. X Planet Games will be holding a painting challenge in the month of October. You need to start the month with an unpainted crew and finish with something you'd be happy to put on the table. This is NOT painting competition, anyone who completes the challenge will be eligible for the prizes. I will ammend this post when the details are finalized. Until then, details can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/XPlanetGames
  18. To me that's kind of the point. By having a ram trigger either more damage through critical strike or having the option of adding to the damage, you can make sure you're getting that neutral flip. That's worth more than I feel it is being given credit for. Now I have the option to cheat a card for damage even if I beat my opponent by a single point, instead of having to win by 6. And if I did win by 6 off of my flip, I'll just spend that ram on Crit Strike instead. Win-win. I wrote out my thoughts on Lady Justice on my blog at: www.stinkmunk.com
  19. Hi folks, I will be running Demos every Monday for the months of September and October (with the exception of Thanksgiving) at X Planet Games in Mississauga. Git yer bro and come out. I have crews, cards and rules and I'd love to show you how to play. The store is located at: 1012 Burnhamthorpe Road East Mississauga Ontario L4Y 2X6 (905) 949 – GAME (4263) And the demos will run from 5pm until close (usually around 8pm). If you can't make that time, contact me an we can try to arrange something. Either leave me a message here on the forum or at www.stinkmunk.com
  20. I finished off my The Guild's Judgement box I picked up at Gen Con. Can't wait to see what happens with Perdita and Sonnia. I painted these this month under the September Painting Challenge being held by the Facebook group A Wyrd Place. If you're on Facebook and you haven't joined yet, it's a great community of supportive painters and gamers. I broke Justice's sword during construction, snapped the blade right in half. Good news was I was able to find a piece of brass that was the same dimensions as the blade. A few cuts and files and it serve as a perfectly reasonable replacement. The rest of my photos are on Pinterest at http://www.pinterest.com/stinkmunk/
  21. What with this being a busy time of year, post GenCon, new edition release and all, I recognize that things take longer than normal, but how long should one wait for a response on a Henchman application before becoming concerned that it was not received? I have started running demos anyway, and we have a league starting up at the FLGS that I'll be working on, but it would be helpful to me to know what it is I DON'T know, you know?
  22. I like Breachsider, but that is really anyone on the non-Earth side of the breach, not specific to the city Malifaux itself. Sort of how people from Illinois are not Chicagoans. Guild Conscripts is a good collective for the conscripts, but it doesn't really apply to people who are their of their own accord. Malifolk is fun.
  23. Almost, but the terrain you ignore is based on the height of your target, not what you're standing on: "Terrain that is equal to or less than the Ht of the lower model is ignored for LoS (but not cover)"
