    • 8 Week Campaign, new weeks start on Tuesdays

    • Scored campaign; we'll track CP/TP/Diff/VP (hoping to have some sort of prizes for this but not sure yet)
    • Campaign 'break/vacation' where no campaign games occur Tues. Dec. 22nd - Mon. Jan. 4th to allow for people to do other stuff and because its Holiday season, feel free to play regular Malifaux games :)
    • Resume Campaign on Tues. Jan 5th 2016
    • We'll be using Nythera strongholds as bases (even after the Nythera ends)
    • Campaign will end with a two-week tournament using your final Arsenal as your pool of models for each round.
    • PRIZES: 1st Place & 'Best Attendance'

Questions/Concerns/Ideas Please Feel Free to post here! What faction will you be playing this time? :D

I'm declaring Neverborn for this campaign!

UPDATE: We are making this a regular campaign league. Every Tuesday I will announce two sets of strats/schemes that you can play. You can play one or both sets. You are encouraged to play two games of course. Game Soulstone sizes will also be recommended for each week.

  2. I am toying with the idea of making the story encounter into a mini shifting loyalties campaign. Ill let you know for sure by the end of the week, but I think it could be really fun.

I think this would be great. I do believe in general it is something people are going to want more and more. Even if only 3 rounds or something. Maybe someday we can spread something out over the weekend even.

As a general comment once the schedule gets finalized with the CaptainCon crew well make sure to link/share it.

  3. Unfortunately due to low registration this event has been canceled

Hmm I knew a few people who were going to make the drive. Regardless good to know. I've removed it from the calendar. Thanks for the update, but sorry to

yeah nice to hear that people were planning to attend but as Mike said we only had 4 people pre-reg and they were making a huge drive and if no one else showed up it would have sucked for them.  We really needed more prereg to support the event.

Yeah gamers are fickle, I feel your pain. Getting people to pre-reg is something that as a TO always is rough. I've had 40ppl pre-reg for an event before and then only 30 show up. That's 25% no-show. Makes it tough to plan.

  4. Captain Con 2016 Feb. 5 - 7 2016

    Malifaux Events All Weekend

    http://captaincon.com/

    Where:  Crowne Plaza, Warwick, RI
When:  Friday, February 5 to Sunday, February 7, 2016
What:  3 days of around-the-clock tabletop gaming

That's right Malifaux-ers CaptainCon is back again. For the 3rd year, however, this year we were lucky enough to be offered an opportunity to take over the old TempleCon event venue and dates! This is great news as we will be able to start the year off with some GREAT Malifaux Events and Tournaments. We also planning to bring Through the Breach sessions to CaptainCon in the special RPG area that has grown the past two years.

We have more details to come but for now all you need to know is that ticket sales are available. Registration is Open NOW (http://captaincon.com/shop/), and 3-day badges are $40, they will go up as the date gets closer until it reaches $60 at the door. So you've been warned. Hotel con prices are available and they've already opened up a second block, and can expand to hotels locally which are reachable by a free shuttle to/from the event venue if you can't stay at the Crowne Plaza.

Closest airport is <2miles away and also reachable via taxi or free shuttle.

We are still working through event times and schedule and information will be up on the website soon. Once you have a badge you will be able to pre-register for any of the events. The plan is for that to be available before Thanksgiving! We also have some other special things planned, so stay tuned!

For now the following events are planned, here is a link to pre-register for events (http://www.eventbrite.com/e/captaincon-2016-events-registration-registration-19270489553?ref=ebtn):

    • Dedicated demo area
    • 50ss Gaining Grounds 2016 Standard Tournament
    • 50ss Gaining Grounds 2016 Single-Elimination Tournament
    • Story Encounter
    • Henchman Hardcore
    • Malifaux Pig Hunt Scenario
    • Malifaux Quick and Fated Scenario
    • TENTATIVELY: Through the Breach RPG session

Stay Tuned for more to come, but SPREAD THE WORD, Share via Twitter/Facebook (New England Malifaux and AWP please)/Email and of course during your local weekly events. Let's grow on the success of last year!

  5. Schemes NOT to take with her in a tournament ... bodyguard (unless u know you can go to a full 5 rounds), outflank, plant explosives, spring the trap. I would also think about running some youngs with her. Just my 2 cents, take it or leave it.

I'd argue she can do Plant Explosives and Spring the Trap just fine all depends, but just like everything in Malifaux. It depends.

  6. These are all great recommendations. Only thing I'll add is because you haven't seen a lot of Rezzers or other models with conditions, I suggest learning how to use Johan or Johanna. Get your hands on the model and paint it up. In Lilith's crew he can be very useful at removing those pesky conditions. Also, Lilith helps him significantly overcome his less than stellar Wk4.

    So grab a Johan :)

  7. It's on my list, but I think you get more bang for your buck with just running more wicked dolls. Like 4 or 5, they are cheaper and do a lot more, throw in 2 performers should be good and have Widow Weaver in case you really want to hand out poison.

  8. So plan is for more Malifaux tomorrow at Milly's Tavern. We'll be moving on to week #3 of our campaign (i.e. meaning we get new purchases).

We will be using the latest weeks Nythera event this week (Week 5). What time can people be there? Trying to schedule around everything. I'm planning to be there around 3pm. I have a quick board game I'm trying to get in at some point during the night but besides that I'll be playing Malifaux all night.

  9. Hey all!  I've been a long time lurker and have finally decided to make an account, just in case I might have questions in the future.  The last game I took seriously was Warmachine, which I played solidly for 8 years before that friend group fragmented and morphed into other things.  The death of  Warhammer--my first wargaming love--as I knew it kind of galvanized me to get back into wargaming on my own terms.  It came down to Malifaux and Infinity, both of which I have in the past been inspired to paint entire crews worth in the past.  As it turns out, I have Malifaux Mondays off, but not Infinity Thursdays.

There's something I like about the aesthetic of Malifaux, and I like that Wyrd's an American company.  I had a lot of fun playing it many years ago, but it never caught on in my gaming group.

I currently have the McMourning and Seamus crews from 1st edition, and have also ordered the metal Nicodem and Molly crews.  After I get those done, I'll move on to the tantalizing plastics that have been getting released.

Welcome to Malifaux. Great time to dive (back) in. McM and Seamus are a lot of fun. As far as metal Molly vs. plastic only thing I'll recommend is that you take a look at making a "Philip and the Nanny" proxy cause it can be useful with her. But until then, Sybelle and Molly are great together.

There are a large group of Malifaux players in the Michigan area. @rancor709 is one of the henchmen who does a great job out there organizing game nights and tournaments.

  10. 2 sorrows works quite well I've found.

Something to consider is Barbaros with Challenge up AND Graves Keeping the Peace up. That will shut down an entire sector of the board for you opponent to really be able to attack you on. Put some sorrows nearby and they'll be just fine.

  11. One I'd add is Bad Juju. Is a great model to play with Lilith and Waldgeists, Silurids too.

With that said you'll do fine with all you list. It's just that BadJuju and silurids offer some fun variety to playstyle with Lilith.

  12. some of the best ways you as a TO can help combat slow play. Is by actively observing the games and being timely in letting players know how much time is left well before the final 15 minutes. One bit that I was suggested to add to my score sheet was a place to note what turn the game reached. It simply puts emphasis on it without doing anything other than having people record what turn they got 2. By placing a target people often hit it because they have something they are aiming for. Those 2 things tend to be the best remedies for slow play.

Also will trumpet the benefits of the henchman hardcore format to helping players get faster.

Very true. These are key things to do. I could just 'like' this but I want to really emphasis how important it is for the TO to be involved with mitigating slow play. Joe gives some great ideas, all which I've tried and can attest DO really work.

Out of all of the things though, I'd say the single most important is 100% without a doubt tell your players at the START of the event when you'll be calling times so they know when they hear your voice to not only pay attention but really process the amount of time left.

Next is something that I personally do because I don't like hearing after from players saying "Oh I didn't hear you". Well I go around to EACH and EVERY table and look both players in the eye and say how much time is left. Sure it takes a little time but its not bad, and for me it helps save my voice so I don't have to constantly yell and assume people heard me. The eye to eye contact is assurance that each player heard me, I wait for a nod or thumbs up or gesture to make sure they received the message. I find this sort of approach vital in the last hour of a round. My typical announcements are:

    • Broadcasted ROUND START
    • 15min later - Go around to each table and make sure players are deployed and have STARTED turn 1.
    • Broadcasted 90 MINUTES LEFT
    • Broadcasted 60 MINUTES LEFT (then proceed to go around to every table and get assurance each person heard); I also get a gauge of what turn everyone is one and make sure they are on turn 3 at least, otherwise I kindly say, you need to pick up speed and should be on turn 3.
    • Broadcasted 30 MINUTES LEFT (again follow-up to each table)
    • Broadcasted 10 MINUTES LEFT (again follow-up to each table)
    • At this point I'm constantly walking around to tables (there aren't many games going on at this point)
    • 5min remaining - broadcast and make sure everyone knows last turn (i.e. don't start a new turn)
    • 1min remaining - broadcast last activation and check that every table is doing so

This may seem excessive but it helps everyone. Me as a TO make sure I get score sheets on time, and that players are moving at a healthy pace in their games. Honestly there isn't much else to do as a TO during a round unless rules questions pop-up.

    1. A way to manipulate if you win/lose deployment (something everyone has access to). Rather than it just being a random flip
    2. No more masters, but ways for Henchmen to 'upgrade' to masters both furthering the story and offering new playstyles without needing to buy new models/armies
    3. Having more free time to play and attend tournaments :)
      1. YEAH had to add this one. An official Crew Builder mobile app that had connectivity to your opponent with stat cards (yes I'll buy them again if I can have them on my digital device(s)).

  13. It's a good toolbox ability. But I find a lost of low df incorp models have high dmg attacks so would rather copy them. One day I will use it...

Yeah thats a good point. I still take the upgrade due to Terrifying as well. But back to the point of the horror its trigger is a good way to get around any immunities.

  14. I actually quite enjoy the Guilty models purely for their references to movies. Even if that wasn't the case they models themselves are something unique and different you don't see in miniatures too often. When I do get around to painting mine, I am considering painting them more like ghosts (even though they're not incorporeal). This is one of the boxes I'd been waiting on for a long time, this weekend I finally got it all assembled. Very nice set of models.

  15. You know I take box opens every game and I don't think I've ever used the attack on it..

I take it mostly because its a beautiful Ca vs. Df, so things like Dreamer die fairly easily against it (as long as you remove other things around him). :)

Regardless a Ca vs. Df is nice for Incorporeal models with low Df. Plus Pandy doesn't have any other way to target Df models, so if she goes up against things with high Wp but low Df it gives her options. Its not often used but I'll tell ya its nice to have in the tool box in those tough matchups for her.

  16. This is also why Pandora has a specific upgrade to help with this. Her upgrade "The Box Opens" (2ss upgrade) has a trigger called Obscene Knowledge requiring a :mask:tome. The targets would gain a condition making it lose all Immunities to Horror duels (and paralyze). With WW it is an auto take for this very reason in Pandora crews.

  17. Carver is a really good shout I suppose. Love the conversion though, if only my converting skills wereup to much AND my Carver wasn't already built.

Hehe yea understandable. I have a few of the Carver models so just grabbed one of the many and went for it. My first real foray into a true conversion. It's been a fun little project.

I assume this is still on Oct. 10th right?

  19. I've shared this other places, but this is probably as good of a place as any. I started a conversion of Carver and Raging Heroes Tree Men/Warriors. I've added some more to his back in the way of branches, and cleaning up the green stuff. He will be going on a swamp base as well.

  20. Hey, did you have trouble putting together Ray (aka envy)?

Mine didn't want to slot together very well at all....

And I call him Ray, cause it reminds me of Ray Manzarek from The Doors

And I have just looked at your site, the funny thing is that I have also based mine using Cork, in a very very similar manner. Only way to get the buggers onto the bases :P

I didn't have much issue with Envy but I dry fit everything first to make sure. May have had to do a little extra cleanup but not too bad.
