  1. I think TheBurner is referring to the last paragraph on p42 of Twisting Fates...
  2. Thanks! Black is one of those colours that's surprisingly hard to get right - it's easy to over-highlight it and end up with grey instead. Nicodem's coat was highlighted with grey, but for his hat I used blue for the highlights with just a touch of grey in the top highlights which tends to look blacker than highlighting with grey. I really love the alternate Nicodem model but since we already have a Nicodem player at the club I can't I imagine me using him too often - I'd prefer to stick to masters that aren't already in use - and I decided to grab Mortimer while he's still available separately.
  3. It says on her card that she's unique - on the front, right by her cost. I assume it's the same for all henchmen - it is for all the masters I have.
  4. Afternoon all, Update time. First off, I finished my Seamus crew by painting his avatar; Click for a pic of Seamus, his avatar & totem I was about to start on Rasputina and crew, but instead decided to quickly paint up (alternate) Nicodem and Mortimer At some point I should paint up some a Vulture and some Mindless Zombies (and maybe some of the Heresy ones - either these or these) to round out the crew... - Dave
  5. Nice work - I especially like 'Children! Don't take dolls from strangers!'
  6. I'm no expert, but presumably her melee range is 1" with Bash...
  7. I reported a mispacked model a few weeks ago and the replacement arrived about a fortnight later (I'm in the UK). I don't think they replied to the message I sent - the replacement just dropped onto my doormat out of the blue. That's the second time I've had an issue and both times Wyrd resolved it promptly so I was very satisfied.
  8. Thanks for the advice. Now that I'm getting a handle on my crew I'm trying to concentrate a bit more on some other aspects of the game - namely Schemes and soulstones - so I'll definitely try you bear all this in mind.
  9. Evening all, I read a lot about the importance of having a good sized soulstone cache so even though Seamus only starts with two I try to make sure I don't spend all my points so I can have a cache of at least four. The problem is that I’m obviously not using them well - in almost every game so far I’ve had a couple left over at the end. So has anyone got any words of wisdom for new players about how/when to use soulstones? - Dave
  10. Thanks, that is pretty helpful to see the thought process you use. The reason I ask is because some seem really difficult compared to others so I was starting to wonder whether I was looking at them wrong. For example Breakthough seems fairly easy if your Strategy requires you to be up the other end of the board anyway - but others like Frame for Murder, Extermination, and especially Seamus's own scheme, seem a lot more difficult...
  11. Afternoon all, I've played a handful of games now, but while I can find loads of advice, both on here and on places like PullMyFinger, on crew selection and tactics for different models, I can find very little on the different Schemes. Does anyone have any words of wisdom for us new players on selecting Schemes? Are there any good articles/post on the 'tactics' of Scheme selection? - Dave
  12. Very nice. Love the colour scheme, and the base is excellent as well.
  13. Evening all, I haven't updated this for a couple of weeks, but I've been busy painting and have finished just about everything for my Seamus crew... First up, a couple more Canine Remains - I hadn't really wanted any at first but have really enjoyed painting both sets. The I painted a set of Crooked Men - I should probably have taken another picture of these so you could see the sign behind the one on the right. I then painted a trio of Drowned. These were also my first experience of modelling a water effect on their bases - it turned out pretty well and I think it really fits well with the models. And finally for today, a group of Punk Zombies... The only model I have left is Avatar Seamus, who I started the other evening. After that I plan to start a Rasputina crew so I can have a break from painting dead flesh and can do some nice wintery bases. As always comments and suggestions for improvements are welcome. - Dave
  14. I don't remember it ever happening during a game of Malifaux, but when it's happened during a game of Puppet Wars we just shuffle the card back into the deck.
  15. Thanks for the clarification - that had been bugging me for a while. (And apologies to Sybaris for taking the thread off it's original topic.)
  16. I think there's a difference between a themed Seamus crew and a fluffy one - and if you go with the latter you open up quite a few more options. When people talk about a themed crew, they always go for a crew of belles of one type of another, but in doing so they miss out on some of the minions that Seamus uses in the stories. For example, in Book 1 he has a train carriage full of Crooked Men, or in Book 3 he's looking for a haunted house so spirits would fit as well. Not really an answer to your question - I just thought it worth pointing out...
  17. What I find strange, and am tempted to house-rule, is the fact that you can use the Jump(2) action to move up to half walk from a higher elevation to a lower one without suffering damage - so for most characters that's 2" to 2.5" - yet that same character can fall 3" before they suffer damage anyway without needing to spend 2 AP. So with Terraclips any character can fall from one level without being hurt, but slow ones with just Wk3 would injure themselves if they tried to jump down that distance...
  18. My guess is it's due to the fact that different people learn games in different ways - many people learn by reading the rulebooks, but other people prefer to learn by playing and asking questions and have never looked at the rulebook (and other people have yet different learning styles).
  19. I too have an order outstanding - no response via e-mail and no one was picking up the phone either. Really disappointing as their service had been great in the past.
  20. I found some good stuff the other day by googling steampunk signs or steampunk posters - unfortunately I don't seem to have saved a link. They weren't Malifaux specific but fit the theme nicely. Maybe you'll be able to find them...
  21. Another related question. In my gaming group we're now debating whether low walls, crates and barrels (all Ht1) should be Obscuring or Blocking? In the Rules Manual, p59 states that low walls are an example of Obscuring terrain, yet the Ht1 wall in the example on p16 is considered Blocking, and on p60 Ht1 Fences are given as an example of Blocking terrain. I'd be interested in hearing people's opinions...
  22. The transitions from flesh to grey on the Grave Spirit and the blood on Sebastian are particularly praiseworthy - nice work! If I were you I'd get some greenstuff (or suchlike) and use it to blend the Grave Spirit into his base - then you could paint a nice transition from grey flagstones to the grey of the spirit and really tie the two together.
  23. I'll be doing the same thing, so to make everyone's life easier I've pasted my post into a document and turned it into a PDF that you can download and print. LOS and Cover Examples.pdf
  24. Thanks for your responses - good to see it looks like I've finally got it figured out. If anyone else spots any errors (or can think of any other situations I've not covered) then please let me know. That's certainly one that I don't think I'd really grasped before now.
