Going back and reading, both things are in response to the model being killed. Slow to die is a may effect. Violation of magic is a must, and thus takes precedence. They pause the results of being killed (removed from play and game) and resolve in order, first violation of magic, second slow to die.
Honestly, when i first got into this discussion, i thought i was wrong. However, the more i read, the more i'm convinced #2 is the correct action.
