  1. I meant to post these when I'd finished them but forgot.
  2. I wonder if I can manage to get the new Malifaux players at the LGS competent enough to bring a team along to this
  3. I couldn't confirm if he will have them finished or not. I think he might as he's had them for over a week.
  4. Yeah. As I said, the show is now slightly out of date as we got our hands on the first two books to read and my co-host Alan recently bought the Kirai crew and is now happily scratching his head trying to figure them out. Episode 2 will begin recording the week of 24th October where we will hopefully have worked out the Audacity bugs and achieve the 1 episode per month target.
  5. About 3 weeks overdue and crawling over the finish line, Episode 1 has arrived. Tartan Skirmish Radio is a side project for 2 Livingston based wargamers: Myself & Alan Kennedy. The primary function of this show is to act as a snap shot of what’s happening in the wargaming scene locally, but also to introduce others to Skirmish level games and let the world know that there are other games companies out there. We started recording this in September but due to Alan being ill, Myself getting a job and Audacity eating files randomly it was delayed for alot longer than we wanted it to, but at least it’s still completed before the Edinburgh Tram service was. Feel free to head over and listen to episode 1. Episode 1 features a news section on Warmachine events and a section on Malifaux from the view point of a new gamer. The episode is less polished than I would like due to being pieced together from a few recordings after Audacity played havoc with it. http://tartanskirmishradio.wordpress.com/
  6. I've heard this before. Nice to hear someone else vouch for it. I use nitromors personally. Stripped a whole Menoth force of 50+ models in less than 1 day. Not good for having round pets and kids though
  7. Yeah, I didn't know that until after I had bought, opened and glued the green ones down. Annoying but not a total loss.
  8. Evening all. A few days ago I bought some Gale Gorce 9 green Crystals to convert into Ice Wall markers for my Rasputina Crew. I was rather eagerly awaiting their arrival at the LGS. So, when outside of the box it includes: 3 large grouped crystal formations, 1 large solo crystal and 6 small to medium groups of crystals. When inspected closer, the crystals are all well made with few blemishes: there was only 1 noticable cut/saw mark on the side of the large solo crystal, something that is easily sorted. If you don’t like the arrangement of the crystals then there is a large degree of alteration available via gently breaking the crystals apart at the bases. Naturally, this does leave a few marks at the bases, but it can be easily concealed. The 3 large clumps were all attached to the wooden bases via superglue. The single large pillar was positiioned and then had 3 medium crystals glued in at the base to provide the 4th large rock structure. . With the remaining smaller crystals I formed 3x 50mm bases which will be left the original green colour and used for soulstone veins in matches. Now all this is needed to be done is spray the large ones black, paint up like ice, add GF9 snow to the base and bingo… done.
  9. Following the success of the first demo day. I will be hosting another event from 2-6pm on Sunday 25th September. Again, everything is provided. There is plenty of open gaming space, so even if you are already a player and just want to come and meet people, come along and have a game or two. Address: Worlds at War, Unit17a, The Mall, Cragshill, Livingston, West Lothian, EH54 5ED http://www.worldsatwar.co.uk
  10. Hi guys, Worlds at War will be hosting it's first fortnightly Demo day for Malifaux. Date: Sunday 11th September 2011. I will be there to run the demos from 2pm till 6pm. Everything will be provided. There is plenty of open gaming space, so even if you are already a player and just want to come and meet people, come along and have a game or two. 11. The Kathy Reichs book series for Temperance Brennan got on my nerves after the 3 book i read. I got really annoyed how in all 3 books the main character seems to find it a good idea to go snooping around on her own, without backup in any way shape or form for people who just killed someone. WTF woman... did you learn nothing from all of those crime reports you wrote. Yeah, stopped reading them after that. Also, talking about books making you feel sick, I ended up going off American Gods by Neil Gaiman after the motel scene... (just go read it) Took me about a week to pick it up again.
  12. Glad you enjoyed it. I have so nervous when the recording started... Tartan Skirmish is currently being recorded. We've got the Warmachine sections of the show recorded and I'm just editing out the bits we can't use. The bloopers reel could be an entire section on it's own. I've got my co-host to sit down and read the wyrd chronicles so we can actually have a proper civilised conversation and hopefully not have to edit it.
  13. It has been pointed out that during my little bit about the length of time it takes for a company to get back to an applicant, that a listener though that I was talking about Wyrd. This is clearly not the case as I only applied about 2 weeks ago and am in no way expecting anything back in a hurry. The issue was to do with Alan who has been waiting over 7 months now with no sort of update whatsoever regarding his PG application. I just felt that I should clarify that here.
  14. Even with the Clips present I still think that Terraclips looks good. We play a game with static pose lumps of metal and plastic, very often not painted to display standard. Suspending belief is part of the game. If you need everything to look realistic: go outside! I was thinking out making custom scenery to pop over the clips on the ground level and disguise them. Vertical clips would be a bit harder, but you could easily copy a jpeg of bricks or a sign and prit-stik it over the clip itself. Compared to the cost that you might put out on resin scenery or GW products, don't those items require painting? Surely that would take more of your time and money compared to the Terraclips system. just my thoughts though: not gospel or anything.
  15. Hi Guys, I thought that I'd share this with you for some feedback. The Ancible is a independent pdf magazine for reviewing new and upcoming wargame/ccg/rpg releases and they recently started doing a podcast. Myself and another local gamer were guests on episode 2 where we discussed Malifaux and Warmachine and the plans for the local area. The Podcast can be downloaded here: http://www.ancible.libsyn.com/ The PDF magazine can be downloaded here: http://www.the-ancible.com/ Any comments and feedback will be greatly appreciated. David
  16. WiP Sonnia Criid Flame Wall Marker I’ve been toying around with ideas for what to do for a Flame Wall marker for Sonnia and decided to try out the idea of a witch burning pyre. After looking up some images on google I began my first trial and came up with: This was built with: 50mm base 3/4″ x 3/4″ balsa coffee stirrer sticks from Mcdonalds/Starbucks Wargames Factory skeletal warriors sprues that I borrowed from a friend I will copy the skeleton on to the other side of the main post for a more visual effect. I am still wondering how to convey flames without making some from Greenstuff. Probably going to go with greenstuff as it would be cheaper. I know that an unlit pyre would have a living witch attached and a burnt pyre would be more on a smoldering ruin but I wanted a visual effect of a body dancing in the flames as a spell effect, rather than be factually accurate. This is Malifaux, remember, logic got left on the other side of the breach. I need to make another one to fit the 2x50mm requirements. Best get started then…
  17. They are indeed Fenris bases. I done a quick review of them: http://coinandcarnage.wordpress.com/2011/05/25/fenris-games-city-bases-review/
  18. Yay, another Sonnia crew. You got the important bit down and managed to create smooth faces, something that I still struggle with... Welcome to the madness. Undead hookers to the right, Soulstone Gin straight ahead...
  19. Despite my best efforts, the faces haven't shown up well under the camera. They were basecoated with p3 Midlund flesh, washed twice with Valejo Sepia shade and then highlighted with midlund flesh again. They look quite nice in person but the flash on that camera is like a stun grenade going off
  20. So, these are the crews that I intend to submit in support of my Henchmen application. I thought I'd post them up here to see what people thought. I wanted to know if these will meet the painting standard for demoing as I'd hate to submit the application and get it rejected for poor painting skills. I just notice that Samael's face has got a bit of varnish frosting on it. I'll get that sorted. Sorry about the odd sizes of photos. I'm using a new camera and I still can't get the hang of of it.
  21. 2 years old but essentially the same: except for the goatee thing, I shaved that off a while ago & I'm now 2 stone lighter
  22. So, on Thursday night at the LGS I gave my first proper demo of Malifaux. My willing test subject/guinea pig was Alan but we got a few bystanders as well. The shop owner Frank was paying rather close attention as this game system is one that he plans to start carrying in the near future, so he is keen that it takes off in popularity. Firstly I have a brief run down of the deck of cards and the suits, explaining that each suit relates to a type of magic. I then explain about stats and action costs. So far, so good… His eyes haven’t glazed over… I try to set the board up to have a 3×3 area in the centre of the 4×4 board, but this proved to be rather annoying. Unless you have a clearly designated 3×3, use the 4×4 but have nothing in the back 6″ of the 2 usable edges, giving a sort of 4×3 playing area. Alan took Sonnia & Samael, whilst I had Rasputina and an Ice Golem. Standard deployment and then I began to talk through the steps of how to play and how the card mechanics work for a simple cast and then an opposed cast. Again, no glazing over of the eyes occured. I must be doing something right. The game itself was a nothing more than a chance to show off the different mechanics, triggers and use of soulstones. Alan is an experienced Warmachine player so similarities are drawn between the two game systems at points in the conversation when explaining some of the more advanced ideas in the game. The game finished with Rasputina doing a “Next time Gadget” cry, casting Whiteout and then getting the hell out of Dodge in a cinematic moment. There was some key moments where the battle would have gone differently if I had wanted it to, but the purpose was to teach the game and have fun at the same time. I think I managed to achieve this. Part of doing a demo game is letting the other person win, but never in an obvious manner. Next time, I think that I will make sure that the numbers are stacked in the other person’s favour, where I would take a Gamin with Raspy or a Stalker with Sonnia, but still make sure the other player had a stronger force. This should prevent another moment where the Golem decided to make swiss cheese out of Samael. A thank you also to Dave (Tattyted on the Wyrd forums) who traveled out to the store for a rather brutal 35ss match after the demo game. I had a brilliant game and earned my first kill with Sonnia against Seamus. I can see myself picking up a Resser crew for demo games as well as a Neverborn crew. Initially leaning towards Nicodem and Lilith but I’ll have to see how much fun these crews would be for demoing with. I wouldn’t want to pick up a crew that isn’t fun to play. On a related note. I got the go ahead to run an all day demo at the upcoming Skirmish 2011 event in October. I look forward to it as a chance to introduce the game to a wider audience. Better get the banter polished up.
  23. I seem to be having a problem downloading/listening. Using Chrome though.
  24. Thinning paints Better brushes Not being afraid to try something and strip the paint if it fails
  25. My usual gaming night is a Thursday at the LGS, where I play this and Warmachine. I usually fit in 3-4 games on the night. I try to fit in at least 1 game via Vassal every week as well.
