  1. So I sat down today after a mostly ok day but with some work on a roof, and painted a lot on my Ikiryo. Now I'm not sure whether or not I like what I have, which is more or less the final product. I kind of painted it in a feverish state, as it were. I welcome all opinions and feedback.
  2. They all look gorgeous! How do you get such a smooth transition from highlight on down through your colors? I can't seem to make that work.
  3. I love your signature! :D

  4. Taking a closer look, I think I can get away without worrying about the blood splatter, there's only a few tiny flecks and I think the model will be ok without them. Curse you Deadpool for making me better at what I do! Curse you I say! ;-) @lamwyrd (Can I call you Lammy?), you're going to be at Gen Con right? You'll get a chance to see em in person
  5. Oh GAWD I do see it >_< *bangs head into wall repeatedly* ARGH!!! I have a hard time going back and fixing up major areas after I've painted something, that'll be something I have to think about :-\ Usually I have a, "It's painted, like MAGIC!" and leave it there, for better or worse, ugh but that's a doozy. I'll carefully consider it while I sulk. Thanks for spotting that!
  6. He kinda does. It's that sorta foppish, not-quite-there grin where you think he might be harmless.....then you think about it some more and feel creeped out. True Story: I partially based his hair/skin on the albino from The Princess Bride. I didn't try to recreate it exactly, but it was what I was thinking when I painted him :-)
  7. That looks incredible! IA DAGON! IA HYDRA! IA CTHULHU!!!
  8. Could you be a little more precise? I think I know what you're talking about but I'm not completely sure. There are touch ups to be done though yes ^^'
  9. I was racking my brain on what colors to use for the kimono, when I remembered that white is a color of death in Japanese culture (funeral kimonos are white) and thought it was fitting. The shears were done with a simple black ink wash from Vallejo, and it must've been late cause usually I mix in a touch of Sepia Ink (also Vallejo) to give it a more brown/rusted look. I make sure to thin out my inks a bit in order to make sure they don't coat. As for the lipstick, I tend to find that lips on a miniature either stand out like a sore thumb or hide very well. Since Kirai was a prostitute I thought a light pink lipstick would help to enhance her features a bit since her face is very prominent. I like how it turned out :-)
  10. And of course having now uploaded the photos I can see a few spots that need some white touch up. Will have to get those later. For now, enjoy!
  11. Bad Gateway error seems to be gone, time for the upload! Kirai Ankoku
  12. I've used some blood splatters before, but they don't look quite as elegant as yours. Do you use a flick or a blow method?
  13. So, I have the model completely done, photographed, the whole nine yards, but am unable to access my imugr account due to a "bad gateway" which is odd since I can still see the photos I uploaded earlier. I'll try again in the morning. Sorry guys :-\ I appreciate all those who stayed up and got to watch :-)
  14. The wash definitely did a lot! It went from "Maybe I should start over," to, "THAT'S how I want it to look!" It was really gratifying to see the robe turn out the way I wanted it. Here's Kirai before blood splatters. Next pics will hopefully be the fully finished version once I get the base painted. NOTE: Sorry about the wide images, for some reason my imugr account isn't updating with the cropped versions
  15. Ok, so the wash turned out good! Helped to smooth out the grays, lighten everything up, and turned the recessed areas into a more shadowy area. Did the highlights and ended up going with a dark gray/med gray for the trim areas, here's where I'm at... Up next is a black wash on the trim, highlight it again to bring out the ridges, then start the hair/skin.
  16. So I figured I'd do a bit of a "As-you-go" WIP where I upload pics as I finish particular areas. Here's Kirai before I put on the wash, then highlight the kimono again. I'm debating about what to use for a secondary color, either a dark blue/black, or a dark gray. Opinions/suggestions? Pic quality = Droid X camera, completed photos will be done with super cool camera Oh, one last note, there will be blood splatters at the end, so take that into account. Kirai
  17. Interesting idea. I use Vallejo paints and now find myself eagerly waiting for you to tell me more Please share?
  18. So is there going to be any problems if my first WIPs come post-Gen Con? Otherwise put me down for Raspy
  19. I notice her eyes are particularly colored outwards a bit, I'm guessing that is the beginning of some eyeshadow/makeup effect?
  20. So I'm a little confused (but eager to join) as to the rules. Do I start painting stuff now or in August? I bought my first box at the begining of April, and have purchased much more since then. I'm working furiously to finish up my Ressers for Gen Con, but have also ordered a Raspy crew that I hope to start up AFTER Gen Con, which is what I would be painting for the tales, assuming it starts in August. My Raspy crew includes the box, 2 Silent Ones, 2 December Acolytes, and a Wendigo that followed me home (I'll probably add a Snow Storm, but that's all I could afford for that order).
  21. Thanks everyone! It's a little surprising, but in a good way, that I get a lot of "WOW! That's creepy!" reactions. In this day and age of Zombies and such I keep seeing lots of juicy zombies, but when I was a kid zombies looked closer to mummies, all dry and crackly and crunchy, and that's what I tend to see when I paint em.
  22. Ok, round 2. Here's my McMourning Crew. I've substituted Ms. Pack for the normal nurses, one of whom was entrusted to the keeping of fellow Resser, our own, Fetid Strumpet. McMourning Sebastian Zombie Chihuahua Ms. Pack Flesh Construct Canine Remains Group Shots
  23. Thanks! I went with the idea of the perversion of something beautiful into something horrible, and that's what I applied to the Belles. And yea, Sybelle is quite putrid, but she also earned herself a decent paintjob (and I kept her in theme with the rest).
  24. Wait, GW debacle? Please, I wish to hear more details of the scandal
  25. Theoretically speaking, a lot of strategies that involve board control, or proximity to an objective, require models to NOT be insignificant. One thing I learned from Fetid Strumpet is that you don't focus on killing the enemy (unless it's the slaughter strategy), you focus on accomplishing the objective/strategy/scheme. If it's a board control strategy, and half your opponents models become insignificant, well, that makes it easier for you to get the precious precious VP
