Fulgrima, I am not saying that rankings should not be done, I quite like the idea to be honest. I just wanted to point out that the "dick" players will still be there and they may be joined by some of the more competative middle ground players who now want to place higher due to their rankings. It's all down to the individual and the choices they make on how they want to play. Personaly I tend to play more easy going at tournies against strangers than I do when playing a mate that I know well.

I used to attend WHFB/40K/warmaster tournaments and still do but mostly just WHFB. Yes there has always been the competative players who not only want to win the event (this is one of the reasons to attend) but want to completely smash every opponent even if it means that all your opponents do not enjoy the games. what I think has occured over the last few years is that there seems to be more uber competative players at ranked events and less people just there for the fun social. Some of the best painters do not even take their models to ranked events, saving their weekend passes for things like doubles and non ranked events where they feel they will be playing against people who are there for the fun rather than caring who wins at the end. Only in the last 2 years have I had opponents question rules on a regular bases, nit pick over fractions of an inch and generaly make me feel like I never want to play them again. Yes there are still loads of gamers who are there to see mates and have some fun games with new opponents. They will always be there but some may decide that they prefer the less competative events and start to avoid ranked events. It will not stop me attending, I consider myself to be of the less competative end of the gaming spectrum (get enough competition at work) and will go to events based on time/location/mates. dave

Thats an admirable stance Drake. From experience I think you would be in the minority. As Ranked events become more competative, as they will. A lot of the players will be attending purely to boost their place on rankings HQ. I have lost count on the number of times it has been obvious from turn 3 (WHFB) that my opponent would be winning, only to spend the next 3 turns having my army systematicaly wiped off the table (not much fun) because my opponent needed the extra points in case of a tie at the end of the weekend and it came down to victory points scored rather than win/loss. This can be eleviated if there is a set points score for a win/draw/loss (3/1/0) and in game points are not used for any tie break. I know malifaux does not work quite like this but everyone will be going to score their max points while preventing their opponent from scoring any just in case of tie breakers. I am not saying there should not be any rankings, just that players should be prepared that some will take things very seriously, as is human nature. Remember, if my little toys smash your little toys it proves to all the lady's that I am better breeding matterial than you and to all the men that I am obviously the alpha male around here. Dave

I'll just add my few pence. In theory the rankings seem like fun. Bragging rights with your mates and so on. In practice it can have some negative and positive effects. These are from what I have seen in the WHFB scene. Pro's. Bragging rights and banter with friends. Encourage players to attend more events. Bring in new players who like a challenge. Stat analysis as to what crews/builds are dominating. Encourage players to try new crews/builds. Increased sales for Wyrd which may go back into further game development. many more that I cannot think of at the mo. Con's. Net lists will start to creep in. Painting standards will drop as players just want to get the latest net list on the table. Players becoming more competative at the expense of their opponents fun. Rules lawyering ever slight quirk for an advantage. Good players not attending events that are not ranked. These are just some off the top of my head and the lists are not everything. At home but do not have all my paints with me so here are few snaps of Lady J and the Captain. they are mostly done but still have some detailing to do.

Have got some more paint onto a few models and will try to get some pictures when i am at home this weekend. (I didn't get home last weekend as I was at the WHFB doubles at Nottingham, finished 12th out of 107 and got a painting nomination - nice) I have also picked up the Sonia box (whoohoo it had a lovely looking nurse in there, thanks Wyrd) so this gives me 2 masters and 1 henchman for the crew. dave

I tried not doing any pinning on these models (I usually do) as I was trying out some new 2 part epoxy resin which sets solid very quickly. I had moved on to another model and did not notice the weight of the claw had just opend the joint slightly before it fully cured. You can only notice it from a few angles but I know its there so will need to go back later. Last night I got the base colours on Lady J and the Captain and started to work on Lady J's lovely locks. I never thought of spawn but now you mention it...... Yes the arm did drop before the glue set and will need a bit of work to fill the gap. I'll do this when a make a belt tassle to cover the gap in the piping at the back. I wanted to try something other than just putting in a fill for the small gap that will add something a bit out of the norm. I am going to leave the tat for now and put it on my list of things to go back to when the rest of the crew is upto a table top standard. Thanks. Dave

Gotama, not got any links but this is how I would/will try to do sheer stockings on future minis. 1. paint all the flesh fully first making sure to get a good contrast between highlights and shading. 2. paint the limits of where the sheer material will be using very fine black lines (stocking/glove tops and seems). 3. using a very, very thinned dark grey fill in the sheer area. the paint should be so thin that the flesh highlights still show through. I hope this makes sense and is of some help. Dave.

Not too happy with the tat jester, I supose a combination of large brush and bad light didn't help but I think it gives him a bit more of the DIY/mate did it type tatooing you can often see on some rough looking types (no offence to anyone, I have a large back piece done at a party). next on the table are Lady J and the Captain. hoping to get them done tonight ready for a game at G3 on tue eve.

Thanks, I wanted it to look like he had painted part of a death mask on his hood and it also broke up the dark hood cover.

Have been collecting Lady J and a few diferent guild models to use with her. I decided that the first model to get my paint on would be the executioner. I love this model and decided to give him a well used look rather than bright shiney colours. Here are some pics. he is mostly done with a few bits of highlighting left to do. the tie in colour scheme for the guild will be a very drk blue with cherry piping/additional colour.

Exelent topic. I am quite new to the game and quickly decided that Lady J and Lucious would form the leaders for my chosen crew. The quality of the models within the guild range have made me want to collect a good selection to use with Lady J and/or Lucious. The effort and detail you have put into this thread is greatly appreciated by me and I am sure many other newer players and indeed even some longer term players. Hello all, I have been a lurker on the forum for quite some time and have been fascinated by this new (not so new anymore) game and the beutiful miniatures. I decided that 2011 would be the year that I would start to play Malifaux. So at the end of December I ordered the rule book, rising powers, 2 card decks and Pandora and Lady J's crews. Wow, the books are easy to read and the quality is second to none. The miniatures just cry out for paint and I am realy looking forward to painting each one as its own character (I'm used to painting armies). I live in Scarborough North Yorkshire and would be interested to hear from any other local players. I work in Glasgow during the week and there is a club close to where I work with a number of experianced players so I am looking forward to getting some games in there. I would like to thank everyone on this forum for their beutifuly painted models and efort that they put into the hobby as this is what has realy kept my interest over the last year and made me want to get involved.
