  1. Not being a Guild player myself - it's either Lilith or Von Schill who will have to 'scale' the tower. Measurements are in inches, but these were very quick 'ideas' sketches and this is more of a 'suck it and see' item. But yes, it is high and hopefully will be impressive!
  2. Just started construction of the tower: Unlike most of the other structures on the boards, this one will be steel girders and steel plating so it stands out more. It is not going to be fixed to the board so that it can be moved about' but is intended to sit next to the Guild House. I am making the basic shape out of 3mm ply shapes that slot together and when glued should be strong enough. Then all the other bits will be added. So this is the basic framework... And hopefully it should look something like this soon...
  3. In a right triangle, the cathetus (originally from the Greek word Κάθετος; plural: catheti), commonly known as a leg, is either of the sides that are adjacent to the ... In other words it has a nice pair of legs! Very clever idea! I like it. It will be very impressive - basement 4", ground floor 4", first floor 4", roof 2"? - 14" high! 8x8x14 Triangular. Ummmm! PS I had to look it up - it's all Greek to me.
  4. It's Mike's birthday tomorrow so it's going 'as is' (with as much done tonight as possible - although I have to work 'til late today) but the second board will be coming home again for completion. Hopefully they will all be finished before Christmas (just not sure which one !). I love the idea of the Guild HQ! Sounds impressive - but where's the sketches? How big is it going to be 'cause that is a lot to fit in. Can't wait to see the designs. As for the Avatar - I'm not really 'Grumpy', but 'Frustrated' wasn't available!
  5. May you win many battles, make much terrain, and enjoy the rest that life has to offer in 2012!
  6. Frustrating week so far and working the next 3-4 days as well, but I been ticking away on a few little bits: The framework for the Semaphore / Watchtower is now underway. I have used 3mm Ply to give it strength but that won't be seen when the other bits are added. I have also cut some steps into the bank so they can get up to the coal chute. The walls to the yard were made from scraps of 4mm MDF and attacked with an angle grinder! The paint scheme is the same as for the rocks but not as washes and very randomly applied to give more of a cut stone feel. A bit of static grass has been added to give some weathering and colour. Most of the doors are done now for the ground floor - all are made out of stirrers and matchsticks. Finally, the mine water outlet is nearly done - just a bit of touching up and add the feed pipe. So now it's back to work and plan the next stage...
  7. I have a couple of alternative (very) despirate mercenaries: And Mc Vey's Isabella - but she is resin caste and has already lost her cigarette before being painted. I also have a Mad Puppet's Necromancer for a Black Blood Sharman - also on the to do list. I prefer metal figures but had to make an exception for Isabella!
  8. That's what I love about camera phones - you can get right down to ground level and inside the action.
  9. to wet your whistle while I wait for the paint to dry... Entrance to The Yard Beam Engine Alley And have another cup of tea.
  10. First of all Congratulations - she must be a wonderful girl and very understanding. Hopefully she has caught the Malifaux madness and is handy with a paintbrush or a craftknife otherwise your boards will be sorely missed. In the meantime make sure you draw up detailed plans and 'play-test' every room before attempt any building project or paintjob! Keep us posted and pics would be nice!
  11. Unfortunately I have been very busy with work this week so things are moving slowly but there is plenty more to do yet and the madness behind my method should become more apparent. Hoping to achieve something tonight...if so I will keep you posted. Cheers
  12. The Guild own the mine (and the town) and try to control everything. The store is just the ground floor of the Guild house. Up top is the Marshal's Office and 'Counting Room', and of course the Marshal wouldn't have riff-raff staying upstairs so the cells are down below. As you will see later the cells are not the most luxurious, in fact suffer badly from damp, as they only have grills on the ceilings so that the Marshal can 'view' his guests as he walks up the stairs to his offices. Justice is swift - so inmates don't stay very long anyway - and when the mine shift finishes in the evening it is always a good time for a public hanging.
  13. Demonn's boards are awesome and very well thought out - spend a bit of time looking through his threads - you won't regret it (unless jealousy is a form of regret ?!). But the inspiration..........
  14. I would say that the first step is to ask yourself some basic questions: Where will IU be using the board - always at home, always in the same room, always on the same table etc? - ie does the board need to be carried about and if so, how far? How many people will be playing on the board at once - do you need 3'x3' or 4'x4' or go for a completely different size? Where am I going to store it - between games and when it has to be put away for a while. Do I need it fairly flat to store / carry - in which case have the buildings etc detachable or is height no problem - in which case you can fix the majority of features, have nice big hills and still make space for 'movable items' so you can vary the game play. Once you thought about the maximum size of the board you can then decide if you want it in one piece (which is easier to build and paint etc) or in sections which is easier to transport, store, and if designed carefully can be joined in different positions to give lots of variation - BUT if you don't make all the boards at the same time, and do each stage of the construction and painting on all the boards at once then it is difficult to get hills etc. and colour schemes to match up! After all that, just think of a theme - where you would like to battle - in swamps, in town, in the hills etc. and look at loads of pics and threads to get inspiration. Nobody minds you using their ideas if they've posted them up and your board will be unique anyway. Then the fun begins...
  15. Just a few pics with customers to show the playing space inside: I think they've been stocktaking..
  16. I had heard the same thing about PVA and woodglue, but even with PVA you seem to get some decent ones and some pretty useless stuff - so I use the cheap stuff 90% of the time and the woodglue if I really need something to stay put. It's probably just branding but I'd rather drive a Ferrari than a Scoda.
  17. If there is any alcohol left by the time I finish this project it will definitely go on the shelves!
  18. I would like to say that I spent hours making plans for the layout of the building so that I could maximise that available space to ensure the optimum gaming experience. Instead I cut out pieces of paper to represent the various rooms. Laid them on the board and trimmed them to fit. Then I drew in the walls and moved figures about on it to see where I wanted windows and furniture and where walls had to be changed. Once I had the best compromise i sellotaped it together and used it as a template. My concept for the building is that it was built to have 'humans' in it so there would be adequate room for 30mm bases, a fair amount of room for 40mm bases and 50mm bases can fit in parts (with limited movement). Most doorways are 40mm wide, but if an entrance is too narrow (and there is adequate space for the base on the other side) or a door is shut it would require one AP to get through or squeeze in. If a space is too small for a base you can't go in there! Here is an extremely rough sketch of the dimensions: I think I have managed to get a reasonable balance for the limited floor space to have interesting encounters - at least I hope so...
  19. With Christmas and work on Boxing Day there hasn't been a great deal of progress. But one board was finished on time and the other is progressing - be it at a slower rate. I redesigned the slag-cart as it didn't look right - now it's a bit more to scale. and made some bushes out of Plumber's Hemp and Flock. The Beam Engine board is getting a paint job (still wet) And the coal bunker is under construction The cells have bars and beds and the store is getting its windows, shelves, counter and doors. A lot of bits are under construction but it will be slower this week as we are busy at work. My Christmas treat has arrived - some Hirstarts molds - so I can start production of barrels and sacks for the store. One good bit of news - Mike is still away so I still have some time - could be Orthodox presents?
  20. Congratulations. Your son will be thrilled! Looking forward to the the final pics - in the meantime good rest and be merry! Happy Christmas
  21. Nice one - I will do a bit of research and see what I can find. Cheers!
  22. Hi Omenbringer Very impressive list of boards but can't see your photos tonight (not even in you albums)... must be the snow freezing them up! I will check them again tomorrow - in the meantime, who sells it and which colours do you recommend? MERRY CHRISTMAS Have a great one!
