  1. Right, on with Snow Storm, the last Raspy model for a while I think. Typical white basecoat, then I focused on the flesh. In this case I wanted it to have an almost undead, frozen look, so focused on cold purples. Once the flesh was done, the coat was easy! It almost painted itself. Its a really nice colour in the flesh, and I am very happy with it (much more so than the similar colour I tried to use on Raspy herself). But of course, Snow can't hang around with her pet Storm, so here is Storm! I did do some step by steps, but seem to have lost the pictures. Urk. I basically tried "juice" painting, in otherwords painting starting with the highlights, then slowly shading down, using really thin paint (and using Vallejo Glaze medium). I am not totally happy with the result, but he does pop, and I'll take it for a first try of a new technique. Basing will come in a bit, got a base on order.
  2. Hi mate, I got the ice pillars eventually (they got held up at customs). They are great, I love them. They helped me to getting best painted (just cos of the style!) at a recent Sydney tournament. Pics of them in action are available on the wargamerau malifaux forum!

  3. Leaving it open to future updates ehs? Must be something like not having to declare which Avatar you are taking on your master......
  4. Thanks, that is what I assumed it must be, its just that I couldn't think of an example (in my limited Malifaux play) where a distance to be hit is increased.
  5. Ah Ratty, when you put it like that, it seems so simple!!
  6. Hi all, two quick questions. 1. Who may hire Fire Gamin? They have an ability which i think is called Drawn to Flame (book not with me at the moment). That says that crews led by Kaeris and Sonnia MAY hire the gamin. Does that mean that ONLY crews led by Sonnia and Kaeris may hire them? If yes, then why does the rule say MAY rather than MAY ONLY. If no, then why bother putting Kaeris in the rule at all, surely it should just say that Sonnia can hire the gamin for no extra cost as well as other Arcanists. And what happens if the crew is led by Ramos say, but Kaeris is a henchman? The crew creator says any arcanist can hire, but I am not sure based on this rule. 2. As couple of rules exist (at least for Perdita and Lady Justice, See the Unseen and Blind Justice I think) where it says something like "this model ignore increases in RG and DG, and tests to be able to target a model". What does it mean, ignores increases in RG? The only thing I can think of is if Rasputina is getting an increase in her range from a Silent One, and using that increased RG she can now target Perdita but otherwise she could not, then she could not target Perdita because the increase in RG is ignored. But that doesn't sound right because the rest of this ability sounds like an offensive ability for Perdita and LJ, not a defensive one. So can anyone tell me what this rule does, with an example rule to help clarify it for me? Thanks!
  7. OK, quick update - Silent One all based and ready to go, and Cerberus joining her!
  8. And here is my next one, a Silent One. Not based yet - just ordered more bases. Comments and questions welcome!
  9. Its taken awhile for me to get back into Malifaux painting - I've been cracking out some ETC skaven. Now I am back in the zone with an update. First is Raspy herself, who I finished about 3 months ago. I am not that happy at all with it, I tried a different colour scheme (well, coping the colours in the rules manual actually!!) but I just don't think I have got it right. I kid myself that I may strip it and do it again. Now it probably wasn't helped by the varnish pooling, but too late to cry over that. Next up is the Essence of Power. This is actually a really great scult that almost paints itself. The one issue I have with it is the boggle eyes - what is going on there?!?! One of the reasons for the warm red spot colour on the pants is to draw the attention away from the eyes to the centre of the model, hopefully it works. I hope you like!
  10. The main bulk of the bases come from Groundwerks, the dead trees are twigs from a bush outside my house. The snow sprinkle is GW snow - normally I would make up snow from PVA and Bi-carb, but on these models I wanted the snow to be very thin, so as not to detract from the ice.
  11. Thanks for the comments all, and here is some more! I've also gone mental and painted the acolyte. Massively over costed in game of course, but a great model. I started with a black undercoat and then went over it with white from the top. I decided to paint this model "inside out" and finish each section in order of difficulty to reach with the brush. Like so.... And the finished off with the same basing...
  12. For a Sci-fi book, Hyperion by Dan Simmons is peerless. For a Sci-fi series, Dune by Frank Herbert. For a fantasy book (a King Arthur one) I can't go past Mists of Avalon by Marrion Zimmer Bradley (its a bit feminist, but brilliant). Then there is my all time favourite fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin, starting with A Game of Thrones. HBO are about to start showing that series, a trailer is here... http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/19547.html
  13. Here are the finished gamin, with bases.
  14. Take a Desperate Mercs to fill out the slots
  15. How do you go about pinning delicate Malifaux models (with teeny tiny feet) into the base?
  16. Oustanding. Another top quality addition for the community. My thanks to you again.
  17. I love Rasputina for her board control. Specifically, Ice Pillars, situationally Freeze Over, and against the right crew, White Out. Ice Pillars are great for spoiling your opponent's schemes, creating fields of fire against melee crews and creating the all important cover. No one in my gaming group will go too close to cover nowadays, most having fallen foul to Freeze Over, and that gives you more chance to get round the negative flips from cover.
  18. One of my decks had an extra Black Joker in it. I didn't notice till my Rasputina lost two killer (literally) duels on the trot against McMourning.
  19. And here is my Ice Golem, done in a similar way. Cheers!
  20. Thanks mate, that is really nice of you. Looks like I will have to go back to the Skaven sooner than I thought (and make it tougher to boot) as I just made the Australian ETC team for Warhammer. I'll finish up the Cult of December first though.
  21. Good stuff, I especially like your freehand tats (like everyone else it seems!) and your skin tones. I must work on that!
  22. Your wish is my command... http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86410
  23. And here is the rest of the Gamin clan... Group hug! Thanks all for your kind words so far, keeps me inspired. For the base I have a plan for half a pre-moulded base, have a home made one. Don't know if it will work, it'll take a while for the bases to get here. In the meantime, its model painting time!
  24. Cracking stuff. I doff my cap to you sir.
  25. I really like Malifaux, the models, the fluff and the game. I have been really looking forward to getting my brush working on my first crew for about 6 months or so, but have had to finish off my Skaven. Now, finally, I have some time to dedicate to the Cult of December, starting with a Gamin. I have been inspired by the wonderful work on the Ice Golem in Chronicles 1. This is a base coat of 3 parts Scaly Green, 1 part Liche Purple Next I have started the highlights with pure Scaly Green. Next is a 50/50 Scaly Green / Hawk Turquoise mix, then an Electric Blue / Hawk Turquoise mix. Finally its Electric Blue / Wolf Grey, then pure white to finish. The belly has been done with an undercoat of Desert Yellow, then worked up through to pure Dead Flesh. The base will follow in due course, I hope you like!
