  1. My book got here today, and Jack Daw doesn't look the least bit appetizing. At 10 points I'm having to lose too many models to fit him in. Which wouldn't be such a big deal, except that all my models already fit my theme, so he wouldn't really be adding anything theme wise. Also, number of activations can be key, and I wouldn't want to drop the number of Stalkers it would take to fit him. I think a well played Executioner will be the key to this list, as his Decapitate ability deals damage and causes discard. I'm sad there isn't anything in Rising Powers that peaks my interest for this theme.
  2. Yes, I won't forget this, but I think even without a hand full of crows, the list is still solid. I won't be able to throw around discard like crazy, but the Executioner and Stalkers should be able to tie stuff up while Nino, Convict, and Perdita shoot stuff to hell. My book 2 is in the mail, is there anything interesting in there I have to look forward to, Guild/Discard wise?
  3. So I'm running this in a 35 pt game: Crew Cost: 32/35 Remaining: 3 Soulstones: 3 Name Cost Witchling Stalker 4 Witchling Stalker 4 Witchling Stalker 4 Executioner 7 Nino Ortega 7 Convict Gunslinger 6 If you know you're stats/abilities you'll notice that every single model here can force your opponent to discard from their hand. What master should I run with this? Perdita will be pretty good if they don't have a hand to cheat with. They'll never hit that 8 DF. Sonnia can Absorb Magic / Disassemble for even more discard. Lady J... I'm sure she brings something, but what?
  4. I'll just sit here and glare disapprovingly until these demands are met.
  5. Chev, make a trip up to Lewisville one Saturday and go paint with the pros at Reaper Miniatures. They have a full time painter, and a plethora of commission painters that meet up there every Saturday from 12 to 4. Call and make sure that Anne and John are going to be there before you make the drive, suck to drive all that way and miss them.
  6. In all games that alternate activating models until both players have finished activating all their models, I've found most of this to be true. Having a higher number of models is good, so you can activate your key models after you've seen how your opponent is going to move his key models.
  7. The problem with using a simple +/- system to count is that you're trying to look for something specific, which supposedly you want to use for a specific action. However, if you're holding off preforming your specific action, who's to say by the time you have the deck set up how you want it, you still need it that way? If you're trying to get a +6 to activate Colette, it's possible you hold off her activation until she's the to last to activate, but you still don't have your +6, you could activate your second to last model and even worsen your odds. The best way to card count is to simply remember all the cards you've already flipped. Believe it or not, it isn't hard to do with a 54 card deck. Most competitive Magic: the Gathering players can do this without it slowing the game. As for bringing tools to help you. It's like having a tape measure. You're constantly supposed to be using your judgment to determine distances until you commit yourself to an action that requires the distance to be known by everyone.
  8. I personally wouldn't allow proxies. I've always thought escalation leagues were a way to get people to expand their collections, which they're not doing if they're proxying. Escalation leagues will definitely be different with Malifaux, mainly because you can change your list depending on what strategy you get. So I guess you'd just have people pick a faction at the start and they'd have to stay in that faction. I would also consider starting at a lower amount of points and increasing the limit every week, instead of every two. Five points only gives room for one model per escalation, which I would personally find a bit slow if you're only doing it every two weeks. Although, this could be offset by the fact that you're able to change your list based on strategy, so chances are you would be buying more than one model per week. So, yeah, I dunno... Seeing as how I haven't played a Malifaux escalation league, feel free to ignore me. Just some ideas
  9. So throughout my short Malifaux career I've noticed a few models that have frivolous symbols on their cards. Papa Loco is the only one I have right in front of me, he's got rams on both his ranged and melee attacks, but no triggers or other abilities that use them. Has anyone else noticed things like this? Is there a point to them? Like maybe another model's ability that makes use of them that I'm just not keen on?
  10. I honestly never saw it as too powerful even. It's a spell you had to cast, so there is always the chance of failing, albeit small, and the -2 CB can be killer. I didn't think of her bending bullets with her mind, I imagined her as Angelina Jolie in the movie Wanted. If her ability was supposed to be that, then yes, ignoring LoS fits the flavor. It went from being a handy ability to a very situational one. I don't see myself using it on a regular basis.
  11. Go to an office supply store and buy some photo sleeve pages. I can't remember the exact size, but you can eyeball it. Edit: Also, what nilus said about left over points is true to an extent. Left over soulstones are very useful in game, but you can only have a maximum of 8 stones in standard games, this includes the stones your master brings. Example: The Lady Justice box has 19 points worth of models, plus Lady J, who comes with 4 stones. So if you're playing a 25 point game, you have 6 leftover stones from your point level, plus 4 from Lady J. Since you can only have 8 stones in a game, you're wasting 2.
  12. I haven't had too much play experience yet, but one thing is for sure, not all the starter boxes are equal. Some of them can be played fairly well right out of the box, but then some of them require some supplements. Some of the boxes are just flat out short on points, while others require more models that will be summoned throughout the game. For the guild: Lady Justice could use another model with her starter box, anything 6 SS or less. Sonnia could use her totem, the Purifying Flame. That's if you plan on playing 25 SS games. Either ask in the faction sub forums what should be purchased with the starters, or mess around with this http://www.engineeringcalculator.net/CrewBuilder.html to get an idea of how the boxes are balanced strictly point wise. Hope I helped!
  13. Perdita can no longer simply ignore LOS like the Austringer. Even when she could, she doesn't have the 18" range he does.
  14. Meh, that's what the catalog is for. I like pictures of models, but it does however make me happy that it's consistently concept art. Book 1 bothered me going back and forth between photos and art. Not much, just slightly.
  15. Yeah, but I wouldn't call an entire book a "teaser".
