1. One thing I left out... these are 1/35 scale... ~Nate
2. These are some very amazing models from SMOG. I don't know if you all have seen them, but their mini's are very dark and very macabre. They have the same feel as the McFarlane Horror Line... a bit twisted and a little odd... If you like these you can find a TON more at http://www.smog1888.com/ Basically it's London Circa 1888, with a decidedly steampunk flavor that I find AMAZING...
3. Tang, I can understand. The only thing that can be done, is to the banner to be lifted by a new voice and bring back that feeling you are missing. I came to Malifaux honestly because I was tired of the other games, and more specifically tired of rolling dice... So a lot of what I post will be Malifaux related. I'm not a rules monger, and honestly I want to play things for fun, not just to win (I am THAT guy that has the 50 Relentless Rats in a black deck in Magic). I'm in a place right now where I can help bring some of the hobbyist flavor back to the forums, but I'm new so no one will really take it to heart. You'll have to help... Let's start posting something new each day. Something that folks should be aware of... or something that they'll like...
4. Welcome aboard the crazy train... I think you'll have a blast...
5. With it being Alice, you're not tossing a Seamus in as a hatter? Seems a natural fit, and you can mod his gun out easily for a sword...
6. Good job! I've never been brave enough to go full tilt on a OSL effect like that... I do eyes, but never had enough courage for a full body one...
7. All cleaned, now it's time to prime. I used GW's Skull white for these, as they will need a bright base color to build off of. In South Carolina there is NEVER a great day to prime, we are always too windy, too humid, too cold, or too hot to prime. So I've rigged up a small paint booth at the house. I took a Plastic Tote box and use it to shield everything in the house. I plan on cutting a large hole in the back and attaching it to a HEPA filter vacuum cleaner as soon as I find a used one in the second hand stores. After they are primed I put them on their temp bases. I have INCREDIBLY fat hands so a cork or a coke cap is hard for me to keep a hold of so I use old skool thread spools (the wooden ones). Most of the time I put a thin layer of cork board on top of the spool, but I was out so I sticky tacked them to the bases as is. Next they each got their base coats... I've washed them using a orange/brown ink, and the leviathan purple GW wash today, and should have some picks of them tonight to post up.
8. Shopping done I head home, change into my "craftin' pants" (useful for both Mini's and WoW), and get the Dremel fired up... I grind down until the circles really start to show, then I use the biting edge of the bit to recreate the fur grooves around the edge. Then it's time to clean up the mold lines and the little bit of flash that always seems to happen around their feet... (BTW the retractable X-acto Knives at Wal-mart have lessened my band aid bill by at least half!) Once they are cleaned up, it's time to wash them down really good. I use a drop of dishsoap and a squirt of simple green just to pull all the mold release off the models, with an old toothbrush...
9. Next I came across these tiny Lemaxx trees that are snow topped. I've not done a snow base and with all the Rasputina (the Mini, not the coolest indie goth grudge trio of the late 90's http://www.rasputina.com), I was pretty much obligated to do one... So what bear to do? Maybe cheer bear? The pink one? I don't have a pink so sure! why not? I get to the check out and what do I see... a sugar plum candle... the green of the trees and the frostiness would be pretty dang cool on a purple bear. Soooo it's now the bear with the 2 lollipops on it's tummy...
10. So... for something a little different... Here's my log of work on the two newest bears. I'm going to try to let y'all into my brain, so you can see how truly crazy it is. I picked up my bears from the store (I always order through my local gaming store so that I can support them and Wyrd at the same time). I brought them home and let them sit in the clamshells until I could get to Michael's. I tend to start backwards with the Bears. I try to figure out what the base will be then begin painting from there, so for base components I wander about the store with a lot of free time so I can let my mind wander... Sure enough, the first item caught my eye. Little clay pots. So I figure I can do the Friendship bear with the two sunflowers on his/her tummy, the pots are a great complement color and I have some ideas on how to use them pretty creatively... So... one bearable idea down, one to go...
11. The ice pillars are ASTOUNDING! I'd love to see some shots of them by themselves....
12. I'm wanting to do a My Lil Pony set to match my Scare Bears... Sucks that the pony isn't a boneyard bit... :flaminghe
13. Or you can have multiple people playing the heroes. It's very much like D&D RPG meets FF Tactics... The coolest part for me is the respawn of the baddies... You can play in an impossibly small play area (2ft X 2ft) and still have a very enjoyable experience. Worst part - dice rolls for damage... I am the favorite target of angry dice gods everywhere... We already have 7 players lined up for this at our local gaming store (all of us that went to Gencon this year... LOL). ~Nate
14. One more thing Avatar, on the "Chow" like gums I used stone grey and washed them up to the darker shade... (I love GW's Washes... they act more like a stain than a wash IMHO). More bears will be coming within the week... stay tuned!
15. Beat me to the punch. I have all five heroes I'm painting up. It's a very fun game. Hopefully you got a chance to play the demo and got one of the crystals! ~Nate
16. I love the reaper evil toys set... http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/pony/latest/02887
17. I have to toss my first disagreement on the forums out there on this one. At GenCon this year the Nightmare version of Lord Chompy Bits created a HUGE amount of buzz on the Con floor. This leads to individuals investigating the game and then purchasing and expanding the player base. So many were interested that they sold out at the show... that type of sales push helps spread the word and provides revenue increases. To say that these exclusive don't do anything for Wyrd or Malifaux is a bit extreme. If it helps, I go to just about every Con, if you ever need anything just let me know and I'll do my best to hook you up.
18. So I have put the first 2 shades on the "bone" bits. I used a little of each piece of feedback. I started with a faintly yellow bone shade with a 3 to 1 mix of P3 Mouldy Ochre, and Jack Bone. Then added a little white and started shaing up... once I have this one done I'll post good pics in the showcase forum... Thanks guys!
19. Hello Wyrd-os! I've been posting for a bit, and I thought it would be useful to intro myself. I've been gaming for the last 7 or eight years, and I just got into Malifaux after this year's Gencon. The demo table, the swamp with Zoraida's shack, really pulled me in. I'm an avid crafter and I love painting and modifying mini's and terrain. I've already posted some of my paint jobs in the other forums. I help out our local gaming store, Above Board Games (www.aboveboardgames.net) in Fort Mill SC. I am trying to get Malifaux going at our store and the owner Ryan is very supportive. Between us we have 8 armies, and enough goodies to keep three tables going at once. I'm addicted to Teddies, and pretty much everything Neverborn. I've only played a few games of Malifaux, but I've already decided I'm selling my 6000 points of Vampire counts and my 5000 of Skaven to buy more Wyrd stuff... :vb_devil: If there are any Carolinian players out there, y'all hit me up and we can play any evening you want... ~Nathan
20. Then that means that Cthulu lives in Malifaux... :squint:
21. My Take: I always imagined The Dreamer on our side is a British child, I call him Oliver. His PJs always looked like a hospital gown to me, so I think that he's in some type of medical/psychiatric facility. I do a lot of work with Autistic Children, and a large number of them will retreat into their own realities for prolonged periods of time, and I kind of feel that is what the Dreamer is doing. Nightmare simply showed him the way to Malifaux by accident, and there he has power...
