  1. Here's a much better post (painted).
  2. Thank you for the nice, positive comments, everyone!
  3. The image size came out smaller than I expected, and I don't see a way to modify it. There are better pics here.
  4. Love the eye on the squid! Nice work on the harlequin diamonds. I have a new respect for that pattern, now that I've tried it myself for the first time.
  5. If interested in the WIP series, visit Mini Mayhem.

  6. I like that idea, Night'. I wish I had thought of it when I started! Maybe I'll do that for the Slate Ridge Mauler.
  7. My full Arcanists faction at the Battle for Salvation tournament. Marcus and his Beasts on the left and Ramos and his Constructs on the right. For a full report and gallery, check out the blog.
  8. Thank you very much for the kind words, guys. Keeps me going! I'll try to remember to take some photos of the models in action while I'm at the tournament and post them up.
  9. Thanks for the feedback. The practical point-of-view is certainly one I can remember for a future project! As for this project (and most of my projects, actually), I just consider it an opportunity to practice skillz and experiment with new techniques. It's just a gaming piece that I knocked out in 4 sessions or so, so as long as it looks cool on the tabletop, I'm cool with it! Thanks, Aaron! I'm really excited for you and your new gig. Talk about a dream come true, dude! Whenever you guys are ready to develop a fantasy/historical mass-combat game, I can dust off Mini Mayhem. Amazingly enough, there still remain a few fresh ideas there that really haven't hit the market yet. Yeah, 2E brought me back in. The rules are cleaner, and the complexity is layered/modular. That, and finding an accessible gaming group that sticks with a game. We're all heading up to Battle for Salvation this weekend to play in the Malifaux tournament. Let me know next time you revisit D.C., so's we can get a beer. Think about NOVA Open for next year.
  10. It's just there to occupy some of the negative space and add interest. I was torn between that and the bonsai tree. The tree was appealing because it would consume a little more empty space, and it's irregularity would break up the straight lines of the Torii gate. But I decided I wanted to experiment with the OSL, and I figured it might add a little more life to the piece than a static bush.
  11. Shades

    Joss conversion

Based on a Dark Age figure. Green-stuffed the mohawk and added accoutrements from 40K (shoulder pad and cable), Confrontation (axe head), and guitar wire & wire-nut (axe counterweight).
  12. The wood weathering effect was done with the hairspray technique. The OSL is a combination of airbrush and conventional brush.
  13. New additions to my Arcanist crews (Marcus and Ramos, at the moment), in preparation for Battle for Salvation. The second one is a conversion for Joss. I still need to wrap up about 8 more miniatures!
  14. Thanks, Aaron! I gather from the last podcast and from your signature that you moved out of the area. Sorry we couldn't fit in a little more gaming before you left! Thank you, Dgraz! Yup, sure enough, they're Canine Remains. But I call them Baby Cerberus's, ha, ha.
  15. Now that the Summer Painting Contest is complete, I can show these..... Yup, there's some proxies in there, but I like to think that there's enough of the real-deal, and enough consistent theme, to appropriately honor Wyrd.
  16. FYI, the FAQ answers this question: (paraphrasing) A model may not place a Scheme Marker underneath itself. "Base-to-base contact" is defined to mean the edges are touching, not overlapping.
  17. Yeah, if I recall correctly, I learned about the errata about a week or two after I finished Cojo. I was a little miffed! What I'll probably do is make a 50mm, magnetized "adapter" for him, if I ever use him in organized play.
  18. "Time's up, doc!" Yup, that's one bad-ass bunny. "Get off my lawn!"
  19. Hey there, Demonn, fellow WAMPer! Yeah, 2E did everything it needed to do to bring me back into the game. Michael Brandt of NOVA Open fame launched a gaming group that has grown to well over 20 new Malifaux fans in only 2 months. We now play every Monday night -- Malifaux Monday! Most everyone agrees that 2E is now one of the best-designed and well-produced miniatures games on the market. Way to go, Wyrd!
  20. It's actually a grass tuft… Nah, you busted me. I was experimenting with different fillers: green stuff, Vallejo Plastic Putty, and Vallejo Stone Filler. The white areas show the Plastic Putty (the Stone Filler is white, too, but I think I tried that on a different model). The Plastic Putty was a lot easier and faster to apply, but it was hard to tell whether it was flush with the model or not. Plus, I was impatient. My interest in modeling trails my interest in painting. But it was a good learning experience. Good that I learn these lessons on gaming figures, so that I can apply the lessons to the rare display figure that I might paint.
  21. Thanks for looking and commenting, guys! The leaves are photo-etched brass (primed and painted with the rest of the model). I think I purchased them from Hasslefree Miniatures.
