  1. Why is this a requirement, out of curiosity? Other masters have models in their faction that they cannot take, or they can take, but are not nearly as effective choices. I don't see why the Twins should be any different. They shouldn't be Woes-Nightmares-Nephilims all in one package, in my opinion.
  2. Absolutely correct. Just like people assume that there will always be a Guardian right next to Sonnia, conveniently saving her.
  3. I was trying to find a way to answer this without coming across as an attack on you, which I clearly don't want. I can't get too harsh with a fellow Guild player. But I really can't understand your -and others'- viewpoint that the combos aren't the problem, the forum and the internet are the actual problem. Speaking for myself, I find this a bit ridiculous. I've played against this and other combos several times, mostly with Guild. I'm certainly no genius, but neither is the Neverborn player across from me. I have yet to find a real answer, other than taking Hoffman and at least giving myself a chance against the Dreamer's antics. But the Alps hurt me just the same. As to the toy box comment, well, let's be honest here; we've not had sterling luck with the previous two boxes, have we?
  4. I beg to differ here. Kirai and her crew are so fast that by turn two you'll most likely have an Ikiryo in Sonnia's face, and you'll be using all your actions to eliminate the threat, instead of taking care of other spirits.
  5. As to the OP, I'm sorry to say: we've had locals who have said that if they see any more Dreamer put on the table, they'll just shake the guy's hand and say, "Good game." I wish I was joking.
  6. I've never seen an Alp Bomb that sat and did nothing. A smart Dreamer player will ignore the Executioner completely, because he can.
  7. Indeed. They took much less time to 'fix' Graverobber.
  8. St. Louis, MO. Nothing banned per se, but we have had several players outright refuse to play against the Dreamer. We've had a Dreamer player basically quit playing Malifaux because he felt bad playing this crew and realized how unfun it was for everyone else.
  9. Not to derail this thread any further, but bleh, my whole argument here is posters kept calling the other models 'targets' or 'targeted', which in fact, they are not. Targets require LoS, this spell does not, I just wanted to avoid more confusion.
  10. No it doesn't. The exact v2 wording is "Target model and one additional model per :crows in the casting total within 3” of the target may not end a move within 3” of an Undead model." Nowhere in the wording of the spell does it indicate that you have to target the additional models.
  11. What extra targets? The other models aren't targeted.
  12. I think it's entirely situational. I don't do it all the time, but like others have said, if I have the right cards in my hand, and the target is that important, absolutely.
  13. I've actually had a pretty good experience with the Executioner. He's not right for some strategies, of course, and probably not the one I had, but he's a great front line model. Your opponent is generally forced to deal with him before he gets to them, and if I can screen him with a Flame Wall or something to help with that, then he can be a real pain to deal with. He can one-shot many models, so your opponent will have to be careful what he commits to him, because I'll gladly soak up those wounds if I can get him right back with his StD action. But anyway, to go back on the subject, Sonnia's avatar worked great in my game, but I misused the Burning tokens, I think. She was pretty low on wounds, and I was forced to use up almost all of my soulstones in defense, as I had Ikiryo's in my face the whole game. I got a couple models with Burning tokens and should have spammed that spell a couple times, then use them to heal her with her (0). But I got greedy and used them for extra damage instead.
  14. My list consisted of current models that are out, including the Avatar from GenCon; our group doesn't like to proxy, generally. I ran, at 40SS: Sonnia Criid -- 7 Cache -Avatar [2ss] Death Marshal [4ss] Death Marshal [4ss] Executioner [7ss] Samael Hopkins [8ss] Witchling Stalker [4ss] Witchling Stalker [4ss] Witchling Stalker [4ss] In hindsight, I possibly should have replaced the Executioner with Nino, but against Kirai I tried to make him a target. Problem there is he is just too slow, and Kirai is able to ignore him, basically.
  15. Nice job, CK, I noticed the same thing mentioned earlier, about the blast damage and it's trigger, glad you got that squared away. And yes, her avatar is awesome. Finally got a game in with it last week; takes a bit to get used to it, but I think it can be effective in games.
  16. I never had much luck with her totem, and some others do use the Student, but I'd just as soon use the soulstones elsewhere on minions. Plus, if you decide to go with her avatar, any totem won't last long.
  17. Honestly, I think Sonnia has just as tough a time with Kirai. Offensively there's no problem, but Kirai players know not to try to cast at or close to Sonnia, and they don't have to. They just summon from 12" away. I played a game last week against Kirai, and she was in my face right after the first turn, and I was on the defensive the whole game. Not to say that Sonnia won't work, but Kirai is a very tough match-up for most of Guild.
  18. Sorry, assumed you would know what I meant. I believe at Stockport, 4 of the top 6 were Neverborn, three of whom were Dreamer players. I think a Dreamer player finished first with a Lilith player close behind. I certainly wouldn't argue with Kirai being competitive, but I think the problem is is that she doesn't represent the faction as a whole. Kirai competitive? Yes. Resurrectionists competitive? Different question, and likely, answer. I don't mean to derail the discussion here, so I understand where you're coming from when you say that Neverborn shouldn't be here because this is a Resser thread. The problem here is that the question involves competition, and right now that means Neverborn has to come up, as they're the golden standard of competition.
  19. Is there a reason for this? This statement makes me think that it strengthens the argument that Ressers aren't competitive when compared to Neverborn. I can only think of one reason the top players are shifting away from Neverborn, and not because they see them as weaksauce. To the OP: I say play what you want. If you're trying to be hyper-competitive, you'll need to look at Neverborn, I think. But if you're only playing casual games, and 4 out of 5 local players are Neverborn, as an example, then you'd be fine playing Ressers. Unless your friends are keeping records or something...
  20. I can't add much, as it's been explained pretty well above, but I generally take max Soulstones if I can. Using her (0) to get the :tomes means you're going to be using a SS whenever you need it, and that's on top of wanting at least straight flips on her damage spells, especially Flame Burst. Make sure to keep an eye out for models with one wound, or maybe 2-3 if they have a higher CA. They have been primed to become Witchling Stalkers with her Violation of Magic; this includes your own models. Also don't think that she can't work well in melee. Most people disregard her up close, but not only can she clear someone's hand quickly, but she can heal herself as well as drawing cards for you. That doesn't mean you can be reckless with her, but in the right situations she can be very nasty up close. Her Inferno spell can help there, too. I take at least three Stalkers with her, not only do they work well with her, but they are fantastic for their cost as it is. I also generally add some ranged to her lists, since Stalkers are only average with their guns; this can mean Nino, or maybe a Convict Gunslinger. Screening an incoming Executioner with her Flame Wall is also fun. Samael is, of course, basically an auto-include with her. The one weakness a Sonnia list is likely to have is speed/mobility. Guild in general doesn't have a lot of movement tricks other than Hoffman, so I'm not sure I'd be keen in taking her in any type of strategy where I've got to keep moving, like Treasure Hunt or Destroy the Evidence. A Kirai crew, for example, will run circles around Sonnia, and can engage her well on her own side of the table. Your mileage may vary, but that's what I've seen locally. Have fun with her! She's my favorite master; I've been playing her since the game came out, and she can be very tough to deal with.
  21. Glad that worked out! That could've sucked if that stuff had disappeared.
