  1. I had an 8'x4' table made of particleboard and 2"x4"s that got turned into shelves when I went away to grad school. Our current set-up at my house is a 4'x4' greenfoam board with another 2'x4' section that we put next to it for larger games. JMP_MyDog has a nice setup, with multiple 3'x3' boards on his 8'x4' table. The table itself is a frame that holds two double-sided 4'x4' boards. It's about 4 feet tall, with storage space underneath. You can see photos of it at his website, follow the link in my sig. Have fun making your table. As long as you have a core group of friends, the ease and convenience of gaming from home is hard to beat. :-)
  2. I played in a tourney where you could only use each scheme once. I enjoyed it, as it added an element of foresight to the encounters. "There's no reason for him to come past the halfway point, I'll take my Hold Out this round and save Sabotage for when I'm up against something nasty." One thing that I haven't seen discussed a lot is tournament scoring. I've played both where it's straight VPs throughout the day, and where it's 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a tie. Of the two systems, I VASTLY prefer the latter, as sometimes you get the bad matchup and all you can hope to do is deny the opponent their strategy and accomplish your scheme. (Apparently the classic example of this is Som'er Teeth assassinating Lillith.) This allows both more flexibility in how you play your games out and doesn't create a situation where players agree to non-interaction to make sure they both get their 6 points.
  3. For tourneys with fixed lists I run 30 stones at: Rasputina Essence of Power (2) Ice Golem (9) Sabertooth Cerberus (8) 2 x Ice Gamin (8) with a cache of 7 stones. Not the most original list, but it performs any job well (except for Reconnoiter) and is easily adaptible to changing conditions. For the one 35 stone tourney I played in, I added a Convict Gunslinger and dropped my cache to 6 stones.
  4. Most ranged attacks in the game are 10" or less. (Nino Ortega and Hans are the only ranges greater than 12" that I know of.) By comparison, the 14-16" that Icy Mirror will normally buy you is quite an increase. While I will sometimes cheat to prevent my "nodes" from getting harmed, with the armor that they come with, it's usually enough to just make sure that the damage flip has a . Getting them dinged up is also a good way to get an accurate range measurement and prepare the Gamin or Golem for shatering, preferably in combat, preferably by getting hit with a Madium or High damage December's Curse of their own. While the tendency in skirmish games is to think of all of your pieces as precious commodities, just making sure that they die when you want them to is the key to winning in some circumstances.
  5. Games go in cycles with us. We've been doing nothing but Malifaux since it came out, however. At least as far as minis games go. We've split up tat time with a fair amount of board games too. Recently, the Malifaux overload has driven slightly more than half of our group into a 40K league, but we still expect 2 nights a week for Malifaux.
  6. I also prefer to run the Cerberus and Golem as a fast/slow threat. How I came to that particular choice of models was by playing some games and finding things I'd like to do better. My favorite thing to do is use Icy Mirror and December's Curse to lay waste to threats far up the board. Only Nino has more reach. To maintain this strategy, I found the best mix is at least 3 minions with Frozen Heart. If I'm short on stones, I'll take 3 Gamin, but the survivability of the Golem is hard to argue with. After that, I needed speed to pull off Treasure Hunt and Sabotage, and a model that is good in melee. I combined these requirements in the Cerberus. Leap and Stalk to get up the board and sabotage, and then act as a distraction while I set up multiple December's Curses. If you're going to be serious about using Icy Mirror agressively, you're going to want an Essence of Power. Going to CA 4 means that you're going to have flips for damage more often than not. While I use lots of soulstones to avoid this, the flip that the Essence provides makes the most out of those blast templates.
  7. I like sending the Cerberus in against Sonnia. After she's burned through her cards defending against that, then start trying to throw Curses into the combat. I've also had success against her using the ranged attack on the Golem and a Convict Gunslinger to soften her up before the Cerberus gets there.
  8. I saw Steven Seagall blow up a room with a microwave. It doesn't have the mobility of the AK-47, but don't discount the microwave's stopping power.
  9. To subtract their defense/resist from your offense, I would assume. Or maybe because they can't remember in what order the numbers go.
  10. It takes the victorian horror aspect of the game to whole new levels. Like the Necronmicon ex mortis with cover art.
  11. You guys should do an acessories pack that's just hats. Like the Lightposts, but cooler.
  12. That deal went until Dec. 31. Since then, Nathan decided that special promo minis available only from the online store would undermine the same game stores that he relies on to spread the word. There might be new promos available as special prizes for cons and tourneys, however. I got my Gremlinette in trade for some terrain.
  13. What a great idea. I'll have to knock together a board like this.
  14. I usually run 7-8 with Rasputina, preferably 8. My totem usually casts December's Touch, but on Tina instead of the golem. Against Guild models with ranged Critical Strikes, having armor 4 on the Golem is relevant, but usually he's fine with armor 2. As far as using the stones, I burn through them for December's Curse through Icy Mirror, especially if I have a Mask in play. Usually by the halfway point, where the enemy is close enough to make Icy Mirror less relevant, I sit on them in case somebody gets through the 3 December's Curses she throws down at that range.
  15. I've enjoyed this one for 30ss: Rasputina - 7 stone cache Essence of Power Ice Golem 2 x Ice Gamin Sabertooth Cerberus I use the Cerberus's speed for Treasure hunts and Sabotages, and then leap it in to melee. 'Tina controls the board and launches December's Curse using Icy Mirror.
  16. Why's this in the Arcanist forum now? I can see it being good/competitive in a Treasure Hunt or Reconnoiter mission. What's the plan to win a Slaughter/Assassinate?
  17. I use 3x5 UltraPro toploaders. It's not lamination, if you buy 10 of them, you can put your cards in for whatever crew you're running, and switch out between games.
  18. He went through the breach, which is when rumors of his death were greatly exagerrated. Now, alas, it appears they have come true.
  19. We use 2 3'x3' boards on top of a 6'x4' table. We can run two games next to each other, and still have a ledge to put cards and tokens on. Plus, we can pull the boards up and play 40K.
  20. Walking around like that is how she got all those demonic kids to begin with. As for me, same as the first time I looked through the rulebook. :rasputinaAll I want in life is a chick with a fur hat.
  21. The job comes with health and dental as long as you never get sick and the only Teeth you have is a gremlin.
  22. You're missing the best part. If you hit your gremlin (who's not going to survive long in combat anyways) you can cheat his defense low and get blast damage on the Nephilim. If you're close enough to draw cards when the Gremlin dies, it's a win-win.
  23. You could always move to Detroit. There's all kinds of players. Finding a job might be tough though.
  24. Because if you miss it, you're not going to hit it. Would it make more sense to go "Nailed it, oh wait, I guess not." Also, elephant screen doors work like the baleen in a whale's mouth. It's an amphibious upgrade. We're trying it out on hippos next.
  25. I could see this list succeeding [sp?] at Recconoiter, but is the goal for Slaughter and Assassinate to engage in melee? That might work, but I prefer to beat Guild with my own range. Generally with Tina I find it effective enough against Guild to advance Gaimin and the Golem and cast December's Curse via Icy Mirror through whichever one lives (even with just armor 1 and 2, they are resilient models.
