  1. I like the bright and colorful approach taken. It suites the crew and will make them stand out among most Malifaux crews with their darker vibe. (Although no paint job can save the deformed arm look of that performer! )
  2. Care to say a few words on how you did the tattoos on Mr. Graves? Not that I could actually replicate it, but I can always dream, right?
  3. Great looking crew. Are you going to do any individual shots? There are a few I'd really like to see a little more close up.
  4. Yep Mr. Disaster, I think that is the conclusion that is is pretty clear from all the observations. For experienced players who enjoy a cat and mouse type game where a maneuvering and position is by far the important consideration, they make for a great game. (Which would be me, except for the experienced part.) As both of us are beginners, it seems from comments that Misaki will let me play the style I like without being as all or nothing as Viktoria and we'll both have more fun.
  5. Very nicely done. The green flames + green clothing on Scales doesn't work for me. I can't help thinking that they should be different colors. But nicely executed none the less.
  6. I am a big fan of the black lining + bold/vivid colors for figures that are intended to be played with. When your average viewing distance is 3', not 3x magnification in a photograph, a little over emphasis often works where subtlety would go unnoticed. You can really see it shine in the group shots. Of course I'm also a huge fan of the miniature works of art many people post. I guess I'm just easy to please.
  7. Wow! What a great collection of responses with reasons. This is an awesome community. I think the Vikis will go on the shelf and Misaki will get painted. Von Schill has been fine while I'm still fumbling with rules, but he just doesn't interest me on the table. And fortunately there is a whole thread on Misaki to help me out.
  8. I bought a selection of models a year and a half ago based purely on look & fluff. Where I was living at the time had an active Malifaux community who assured me the Vikis were a great choice. Never actually played a game. But now I'm in a different place and just starting with another player who has never played before. There are a couple other people who are waiting until we've figured it out so we can teach them. I've used VonSchill in the two half games we've had, but the Vikis are primed for painting. However, reading about the Vikis at pullmyfinger, it doesn't seem like they will actually make for a fun game for newbies. I also have Misaki and already have painted Ronin. Would Misaki make for a more enjoyable game for casual players than Viktoria?
  9. If by some bizarre coincidence you're in middle TN, the local store here in Murfreesboro has a box. At least the did on Friday afternoon.
  10. The soulless white eyes on Baby Kade and Candy hit the creepy nail on the head. For some reason they're menacing in way that they are not on the doppleganger.
  11. You make a very good point. The honest and full truth is that I'm just not prepared to invest 40+ hours each for figures that are going to have to stand up to all the normal dings and scrapes of table top play. And I paint to play with painted figures, not for display. I'm going to have to try someday, but I harbor a suspicion that I'll put in ten times the effort for something that looks 50% better. Which is I guess is just a fancy way to say I'm a lazy git looking for every half-arsed shortcut I can find.
  12. Thanks for the write ups. As a new player who is playing with a new player, battle reports are really helpful for learning about strategies & tactics.
  13. That is such a good option to go with three colors instead of sticking with the nazgul look. Very nice indeed.
  14. Ah, it's probably just not showing up clearly in the photographs. I know my photographs never look like the figure looks to me!
  15. There is so much stuff posted here is absolutely phenomenal. And I love looking at them. But in an unattainable admiration kind of way. I really enjoy seeing something done that looks great that I feel I could achieve. Those are the posts that inspire me to paint.
  16. Very nice. Only comment I have is that the bases are pulling the great painting down. Maybe something as simple as a dry brush to add a little contrast to them would help.
