  1. What that Minotaur pirate needs is MORE COWBELL! Oh wait, he has one on his sword. I was remarking on the Reaper forums how much that guy reminds me of Mr. Smite from World of Warcraft.
  2. the Gimp also lets you see what the size of the picture will be when you save it as JPEG. It works on a slider from 1-100%, so lots of granularity there. I do the magic-wand thingy in Gimp and insert my own faded backgrounds on my pictures now. It looks much better than before.
  3. I'd stay away from any auto color balance in the software itself, if possible. If you camera has it, that's what I'd go with. Another option is to put various swatches of color inside of the frame of your photo, but far enough away from the mini that you can crop them out. Basically if you have something in your frame that pretty much fills in the CYMK ranges, you'll get better results.
  4. Happy birthday! I was 19 like 19 years ago!
  5. It's like a Kev White body with Sandra Garrity hair.

    I'm new too

Hi Bren! You guys are going to love her minis. She's already in the upper 8s on CMON, and has only done like 21 so far.
  7. Considering that her legs are buckled together at the ankles, she's going to be taking *very* short steps.
  8. I think that figured got dubbed 'the hopping nurse' over on the Reaper forums. I think Werner has some S&M fetish that he's only telling us about through his sculpts.
  9. I think the closest VMC I have to Pale Indigo is Azure, but even that is too muted.
  10. Wren, if you play dwarves, you only need a few figures to field an army. The king alone is 411 points, IIRC. My five-figure troop that I entered in the ReaperCon painting contest last year was 540+ points before you even factor in spells and other upgrades.

On the few occasions that I've done it, that's what I did. I also made sure that my highlights and shading were such that they were influenced by my light source. For where the light source was hitting the figure, I'd do glazes of the midtone of my lightsource.
  12. Copy/paste from my follow-up on the Reaper forums: The skintones are the same basic recipe that I used on Sophie earlier. The only difference is I went back afterwards and did a bit more shading with a reddish tone to give it more of a ruddy look. Unfortunately, I can't remember what the heck I used. The armor was based with VMC SS Camo Black (analogous to MSP blackened brown), then lightened a bit with VMC English Uniform (MSP Uniform Brown). After that, I went with VMC Goldbrown (pretty close to MSP Palomino Gold), and then mixes of VMC Goldbrown and MSP Pure White until I was left with hotspots of Pure White. After all that was done, I went back and glazed the whole mess with MSP Scaly Highlight to give it the greenish patina that you might notice. Finally, I went back and added additional shading of VMC English Uniform and VMC SS Camo Black. The cloak was based with MSP Cinder Brown, then lightened with MSP Volcano Brown, MSP Ashen Brown, and finally MSP Pale Indigo. Probably not what you were expecting there. Pale Indigo is one of my favorite colors these days -- it's very versatile. I originally started the trim on the cloak in gold, but hated it. Then brown with the same result. Then red. Finally I settled on the indigo again so that it wouldn't be so distracting. Critiques of all kinds are certainly welcome. You can't bash this figure any more than I already have in my own mind, so be as harsh as you like.
  13. This is the second figure I've painted for Reaper -- Herryk Aesir of the dwarven faction in Warlord, sculpted by Bobby Jackson. This one gave me some problems with picking out colors that worked together, but in the end, he came out alright. It went in the mail today, and should arrive at Reaper sometime next week, and will be in the Painted Showcase over there some time after that. Votey Link
  14. I have no soul, so I'm not worried about that.
  15. My list of 'must haves' would probably number at least 50. :-p However, these two are 'absolutely positively must haves': VMC Smoke RMS Walnut
  16. Some of these I like (Siobhanna falls into this category) Some of these I'm not too keen on. One of these is an absolutely ridiculous figure (I'm looking at you, elf dude)
  17. And here I was thinking that the paintjobs on the figures in the GW catalogs was bad. That's a pretty impressive level of ugliness.
  18. Yeah, I pretty much said the same thing. For all of Werner's feminine male elves, I'm surprised he created such a mannish female figure.
  19. Sometimes their 'official' photos are the concept art. I'd much rather see whites than concept art, to be honest. But of course, Rackham painted stuff is much sexier than whites. If it was GW we were talking about, I'd rather see whites than painted, since the painted stuff in their catalogues (except for the GD stuff, of course) sucks.
  20. This stuff. Straight from the bottle.
  21. Ah...the other guy with the chimp avatar. Sorry Ritual. :-p The liquitex stuff tastes wonderful in comparison to W&N.
  22. By the way, the W&N Flow Improver that Ritual is talking about tastes HORRIBLE!
  23. Mark your calendars: May 17-20 in Denton Texas. Read all about it here: http://www.reapermini.com/
