Climbable terrain

Joel

Question

I'm not sure I'm getting this use right.

If a model with arachnid wants to climb up a 3" wall to get to a higher elevation, and is currently 2" from the bottom of the wall, how much movement does it need to make?

is it 2" (to get to the wall) + 6" (to climb it), + 1" (to move onto the higher elevation)

Or

2" (to get to the wall) + 2" (to climb it and move the 1" onto the higher elevation, the vertical distance being ignored)

Or something else?

Is it the same with ladders and stairs (I use terraclips)?

Arachnid: this model ignores severe terrain movement penalties and climbs 1 ht for each 1" of movement it spends

So let's say you are using an Arachnid Swarm:

You walk 2" to the wall and 3" up. You have to double walk (leaving 3" to walk) or charge (leaving 1" remaining.) So, for every inch of elevation, remove an inch of walk.

As to ladders and stairs in terraclips: My group plays stairs as no movement penalty, ladders as standard climbing penalty(double your walk.) Arachnids need not worry about either.

The current rules for ladders make them way to tough to climb - two full walks to go up one level of terrain is too spendy - especially with the prevalence of flight and float and 'Augmented Jump''.

I agree. I play that climbing a ladder is just normal movement, and climbing penalty is only for things that aren't helped out, but aren't so high that you couldn't reasonably climb them (for instance, a 2" high ledge)

I tried playing a game with my buddy that ladders take 3 inches instead of 4 and another where there were no penalties on ladders. I liked both of them to an extent. Using 3" you could feasibly make it up the ladder with one walk with most models. I wasn't crazy about no penalty... I think there should be some penalty but it really sucks to get to the top of the ladder and do nothing.
