How far DOWN can a blast reach?

Augur

Question

I've just played my first Malifaux game and stumbled upon a problem.

A blast has a height of 3 - but how far DOWN can it reach? Is it 3 inches as well? What part of an enemy model should it reach to hit - any or base?

We had a situation when Papa Loco hit an Ice Gamin which sat on the roof of a heigth 4 building and damage caused 2 blast markers. There were several other Rasputina models in the shadow of the same building below (so 4 inches 'lower' than Papa Loco's target). Will these models be damaged by a blast? If a blast goes 3 inches down, then it won't reach these models bases but will reach their torso, sort of. :-)

As a connected question - are auras and pulses infinitely deep as well as infinitely high? Or do they go strictly up?

Fun as it may sound, it is an issue for our gaming group - we managed to get hold of 2 Sewers Terraclips so will have lots of underground and ladder skirmishes.

Upd: Just found a very similar unanswered question but concerning blasts placed 'on empty air'

We have played that unless detailed otherwise, a pulse or aura is direct base to base. so if the figure is on a higher elevataion you measure on an angle.

For Blasts we actuate a Cylinder 3" high and 2" Diameter, and can be placed using the standard blast rules. so the first blast wont reach down enough in your case but the second extra blast will.

Just understand that these are house rules to overcome limitations in the book.

Just up the thread

Can we have a RM reply, please?

Is the blast Ht3 DEEP?

And if it is, then would a model be harmed in each of the cases:

1) Blast Marker at Ht5 vs. Ht2 model standing at Ht0?

2) Blast Marker at Ht4 vs. Ht2 model standing at Ht0?

3) Blast Marker at Ht3 vs. Ht2 model standing at Ht0?

So basically you rule that a blast goes only up and an aura/pulse goes both up and down?

given the wording in the rules manual, YES.

a Blast is basically a "model" with a set height and a base. all models touching that volume are affected... (as defined, page 21)

an Aura or Pule are a measured distance in all directions,

measured distances have, in the past, been ruled to be 2 dimensional, and ignore height notations on the map.
