Perdita Ortega, a strong woman and leader of the Ortega clan was a bit surprised at the urgency of the message she had just recieved. In it Lady Justice had described in horrifying detail what was happening to innocent people in the Guild. Apparently the 'Born were making them rip their own insides out, the question was why.

This in mind she made her way with Francisco and Santiago to the city of Malifaux to do some investigation. She wished she could have brought more of her family however they were all either on assignment or tending to her Papa.

Papa Loco, the Patriarch of the Ortega family had been seriously wounded in his last encounter with the 'Born, a stick of his signature dynamite blowing up a little to close to himself. Luckily it had been inside the Nephilim he was trying to kill so the blast was lessened somewhat.

Perdita eventually made her way to the scene of the most recent crime, fresh from this morning. This time a bedroom covered in blood with the previous inhabitant still laying in the bed. The first thing she noticed as she entered the room was the smell, a sweet stinging smell which she attributed to the attacker. The next thing was that the room was covered in what looked to be small cuts and scratches which she again attributed to the attacker.

"Ugh, what is that nasty smell?" questioned Santiago gagging. "It reminds me of the 'Born pit after a good burnin'"

"Quiet" said Santiago quietly running his eyes around the room, "estamos aquí para trabajar." He looked to Perdita, "what do you make of this hermana?"

Perdita shrugged "es impares hermano, not normal."

She walked up to the guardsman on duty

"How long has she been dead?" she spoke softly, respectfully. The guard turned and replied "It appears to be about eight hours ma'am. From the look of 'er I would say she died after a massive struggle with someone. Also, she's all opened up and ain't nothin' there." He said that part with fear in his voice, disturbed by the implications.

"So dead since last night, no organs, and evidence of a struggle?" "Yes ma'am, sounds about right" he replied as she processed the information.

Santiago spoke up, "maybe we should go question a 'born hahaha" He and Francisco laughed as they exited the room; leaving Perdita, who was more suited to this type of work, alone to think.

Perdita thought to herself that this was not adding up. From her experience 'Born never ever wasted blood, nor did they not eat an entire carcass. Plus they tended to be a lot more subtle than this, preferring to kill with trickery and deceit. Never had she seen one make some one literally tear themselves apart. Either this is a new breed of Neverborn or someone is not telling the truth.

She turned to leave as the guardsman stopped her. "maam, you may wanna take a look at this..." he sounded sick, on the verge of fainting. She went to stand behind him and saw what was upsetting him. On the floor behind the bed she saw a small pile of eyeballs. Lovingly places to all be looking up.

"This is different," she said, her callousness bread of years seeing horror first hand.

"but what does it mean?"
