edonil
Well, if the Alchemist Guild is awesome enough, I'll try upping my pledge again, but I'm just shy of a week's pay at this point for 21 models, lol.
SteamHammer
I'm might increase for resin minis later but wish I could see some comparisons.
edonil
I think two parts to the problem are timing and the way KS has been used by larger companies. A lot of the non-US ones I see tend to be startups, with brand new companies producing entire lines and games from scratch. A lot of the US ones, and a few of the non, admittedly, tend to have partnerships with larger companies that can absorb the cost of doing tons of freebies. Or are larger companies like that in general. Which has skewed the value of what a KS can be, I've seen a lot of people abandon KS', saying that they chipped in expecting to get a ton of stuff free instead of the value they were told at the beginning. And then you've got a few high profile KS projects going for minis, like Dreadball Xtreme and Drake, which are eating at potential funding. edonil
Honestly, for me, I just can't deal with metal anymore. I hate cleaning the things, and I've gotten some that were badly cast or missing pieces and never got them replaced.
SteamHammer
Cursed free stuff hunters. Now that I've received a few projects I'd prefer to pay more for a few nice models and some free ones than mountains of pretty rubbish ones.
edonil
Agreed. It's depressing to see projects stumble, and a few even fail because of people like that.
SteamHammer
Getting any gaming or painting done at the moment?
edonil
I've been playing the card game Marvel Legendary, that's been fun. Got to mess around a little with airbrushing, but only figured out how to do base coats so far. Need to do some research when I'm not going through my backlog of Sanderson books or working on writing projects with a deadline.
edonil
How about you? Been painting through your backlog?
SteamHammer
Not done much. Finally finished a Darklands troll and started another one. Got one of the translucent gamin out to try painting but haven't started yet.
edonil
Oh? What are you thinking for it?
SteamHammer
Going to try some thin white highlights on some edges and will see if the light still shines through them. I don't want to completely paint them as that would make their translucent nature meaningless. But if they turn out badly I will just paint over them. edonil
Use varnish as primer. It'll also make it easier to remove the paint if it doesn't work.
SteamHammer
Already done that although I've not seen how it came out yet. Looked a bit bubbly as it went on.
edonil
eek. That's problematic.
edonil
Hope the experiment goes well, though. I still want to try my LED eyes thing for Pandora, Candy and Kade. Still need to get the right glue to assemble them, though.
SteamHammer
Sounds a bit advanced. Are you using LEDs as the eyes or just leaving them unpainted and having the LEDs shine through from beneath?
edonil
The latter. I'll be painting the rest, but not the eyes. Thinking of reversing it on the Sorrows and the Poltergeist.
SteamHammer
Sounds good. Can't wait to see some photos.
edonil
It'll be a while, sadly. Oh well. I'll survive.
edonil
I just need to pick a project of anything and sit down and finish it. Elle is alternating between hyper, wanting to do new projects, and contemplative, wanting to just listen and absorb from other people.
edonil
So, onto the Pratchett book, then?
SteamHammer
Yup, only read the first chapter so far.
edonil
Well, that's a good start. It's only been a few times, but I've had books where I didn't get that far, lol.
SteamHammer
I usually try to give it 100 pages in case a book has a slow start.
