edonil
Amen to that, lol. I was thinking about trying to do a multi day hike thing this summer for fun if I could find a group and had a realization of 'wait. What about charging the mp3 player? crap!' ...I might have a bit of a problem.
SteamHammer
Morning all. What's new? Can you get a clockwork mp3 player charger? Or one of those portable solar arrays.
edonil
I'd figure out something. I'm sure someone has a solution somewhere, lol. How are you, Steam? Been on holiday, or has work been crazy?
SteamHammer
Work has been crazy. Hopefully today will be a bit quieter. I need the rest.
edonil
Sounds like! How've you been aside from work crazy?
SteamHammer
Not bad, still too many things taking up my limited spare time. You?
edonil
Not bad. Trying to use my spare time better. Been tackling my own growing list of books lately, but not as quickly as I'd like. Rearranged the loft so I can work in it with some manner of efficiency...or at least, that's the plan. What's been on your to-do list? Still doing archery? SteamHammer
Almost finished that Locke Lamora book that my friend lent to me. Then there's a couple more of his books, 4 books that I got at Christmas, and then finally back to the huge backlog on the Kindle. Still doing archery, I've even ordered a traditional flat bow for days when I need more excuses for being really bad at archery. Did you ever try any more of it? edonil
I'm hoping I can, honestly. Taking time off college is giving me a lot more time to do things, and that might be one I add into the rotation again. It'll be a bit before I do, though, I want to get my own bow and be able to set things up in the backyard so I can practice at home if I want to. Which Lamora book are you on? Republic of Thieves or Red Seas Under Red Skies?
SteamHammer
Republic of Thieves.
edonil
How is that one? I know I'm quite enjoying book two, is book three carrying on the reputation well?
SteamHammer
Great so far and as I've almost finished it I doubt it will disappoint.
edonil
Sweet. The first book was one of the best things I've read in a long time, glad to hear it keeps going strong.
SteamHammer
And once I've finished this, I've the last of the Ketty Jay books waiting. Back to back fun adventures.
edonil
How many books are in that series? If you're enjoying it that much, I think I need to add it to my list to grab.

edonil
Thanks for the link, I'll definitely take a look at these. ---------- Post added at 05:02 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:55 AM ---------- I have way too many books to get through before Sanderson's new one in March... SteamHammer
Way too many, I doubt I'll have finished just the paper backlog by then.
edonil
Well, one can dream! I know I've been adding to my backlog like crazy. I picked up seven Babylon 5 novels, five of the Vatta books, a couple writing advice books and a theology book my last visit at a used book store. Was not the brightest idea, lol. SteamHammer
I want to reread the Vatta ones at some point. Although that point is probably a few years away due to other books that I've never read taking higher priority.
edonil
Yeah, they got bumped up on my list for the trade interaction bits. I don't know of too many scifi books that use trading as a primary conflict piece for a character.
SteamHammer
There really aren't many fun sci-fi or fantasy books primarily based on non-violent conflict.
edonil
Yeah, it's a bit of an odd thing, honestly. Short fiction, I've heard quite a bit of that does that. But most stories like that don't get scaled out to full novels. Might just be a publisher decision, it'd be a bit of an odd trend. ---------- Post added at 06:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:39 AM ---------- Heh, well, that makes me think that writing a short story or two with that as the premise might be good fun, and something a bit new! SteamHammer
Send me a copy if you do it. Could be fun. There was a trading side story in the Serpent War saga.
