Mister Monkey
It is actually quite good, controlling cities, bribing personalities ..... It is actually a very clever game.
edonil
How complicated?
Mister Monkey
I picked it up in a couple of turns...... you get cities they give you money, you then use that money to either build armies to take other cities or bribe officials to join your side and at the end of the turn you gain points for what you control. edonil
Interesting... that does sound pretty interesting, actually. ---------- Post added at 01:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:44 AM ---------- Man, I wish I knew people who play Euro style games on the weekend...I miss those kinds of board games. Mister Monkey
It was surprisingly good...... at the start of every turn you deal out so many cars and take turns choosing which ones you want. The game I played I took over the entire north after being told you dont win games controlling the north..... then a come from behind victory in the last turn as I took over most of the churches and bishops. *grin*

Mister Monkey
The other two were too busy fighting over some region or the other to notice what I was doing *grin*
edonil
heh, that's what happened in the game of Kings of Artifice that we played at Gencon. I grabbed my little corner of the map and ignored everyone else, built two palaces next to each other, and catapulted ahead at the end of the game, winning by more than ten points if I remember right, lol. Mister Monkey
Ha ha Fortune favours the one who sits quietly in the corner and gets ignored! What boardgames do you mainly play?
edonil
Dominion is my big one. Most of the time, we're playing group games more than board games. Catch Phrase, UNO, Apples to Apples, Salad Bowl... that last one is probably about as frequent as Dominion.
Mister Monkey
I have never played any of them
edonil
...weird. I think we broke the thread, I see your post in the preview thing, but not when I come to the page... Anyway. They're fun little things, nothing complicated, just ways to pass time. UNO's a simple card game, Apples to Apples is a word association game, and one I'm not super fond of. Catch Phrase is a game where you try to get a team to guess the word/phrase you're not allowed to use.
Mister Monkey
I had issues too...... Sometime the simple quick games are the most fun.
edonil
Yeah, all depends on the group. I really do enjoy those games, I just wish I got to play more complicated ones every once in a while.
Mister Monkey
I am lucky enough to have two distinct groups....... and one of them likes the more strategy board games.
edonil
Yeah, there's a local board game club, but they play on a night that I can't make it to, sadly.
Mister Monkey
Ah bugger..... thats no fun.
edonil
Yeah, it's kinda the problem with games that are alternative to 40k...all the players are part of the board game club, so I'm stuck trying to convert the 40kers. With a complete lack of results. Having an off shift really sucks like that.
Mister Monkey
And those 40kers can be pretty darn stubborn about that game......
