SteamHammer
I'll have to add that to the list. Just got the last part of the Immortals set by Tamora Pierce. At least those are short being YA books.
edonil
Nice! Good book that one. Kitten's relatives are entertaining
SteamHammer
Almost finished the first part of Dance with Dragons. I think I'll have a break before the second part. Finish the Immortals and read book 2 of the Mongoliad.
Alfndrate
I think a little bit of washes might do some wonders for you though. Thanks, and there are washes on it >_< That's the number 1 reason why I don't put pics on the internet because everyone immediately says put a wash on it... SteamHammer
Looks fine to me. We can't all be Mako.
Alfndrate
I know there are parts that can be fixed, like the skin could be smoother, and the pants could use a highlight color, but her skin is Bugman's Glow flesh base, Ogryn Flesh, followed by Kislev flesh. The blue is Macragge Blue, Asurmen Blue wash, Calgar blue highlight, followed by a Guilliman Blue Glaze. The hair is Averland Sunset, Casandora Yellow Wash, Yriel yellow (I don't like the yellow glaze it makes everything splotchy). *sigh* I'm proud of it, and it looks good on the table, which is all I care about in the end. SteamHammer
That's the main thing. Up close mine look terrible. But at arms length or an the table they look fine. I have fun and I'm sure my skills will improve.
Alfndrate
My skills are improving lol. If I were to trot out my Trollbloods and compare them to some of my more recently painted Malifaux figs, you'd see improvement. My Trolls are almost literally: Prime, basecoat, first layer (no highlighting), wash with devlan mud or appropriate shade, spray coat lol.
SteamHammer
They sound miles better than my early high elves and night goblins back in the dawn of time. No primer or undercoat. Just base coats. Lets just say they were repainted once my skills and painting knowledge improved.
Dustcrusher
I've found that Lady Justice, the Judge, and one Death Marshal vs. Seamus, Sybelle, and one Rotten Belle makes for a good demo game, especially if I play Seamus. Lets just say they were repainted once my skills and painting knowledge improved. Heh, I have one that's literally Testors enamel flesh tone, yellow (like somehow that's golden) armor, black chain, and a solid metallic sword. Looks awful, and I think I may repaint him just for before and after shots. I will likely do the prime/basecoat/wash method on my rank and file troops for KoW. I want them painted sooner rather than later. Inks on white primer can be surprisingly effective if you're doing mostly brighter colors.
SteamHammer
Prime/basecoat/wash sounds like my bulk Skaven painting method. Maybe a bit of drybrushing when I could be bothered. Funny you should mention inks on white primer. That's basically how I did Kirai's spirit group. Very, very lazy but it turned out ok.
Alfndrate
Yeah, I mean if you look here: http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?37570-Alf-s-PaintStation-Lots-of-pics-in-the-OP&p=482723#post482723 You can see how I've improved since last February... Edit: I did wash on white primer for my nids Snow theme! Edited December 11, 2012 by Alfndrate
SteamHammer
A definite improvement. Although like you point out, the early ones didn't get much help from the camera. Onwards and upwards (skill wise).
Alfndrate
Justice is easily my worst model painted since I started learning about painting 2 years ago.. That hair is terrible, and I cringe... Yet for some reason, people don't care
SteamHammer
I think Collodi is my worst. The patchwork harlequin idea I was going for turned out a mess.
Alfndrate
Got a pic that's not on photobucket? :'( That's my biggest issue with Wyrd's miniature sections is that everyone hosts on photobucket and I can't ever see them..

SteamHammer
Oh well. Could be worse. They could block access to the forums too.
Alfndrate
This is true, I think it's because they haven't seen these sites before... So I'll probably be my own undoing lol.
SteamHammer
Hmmm, use an add blocker or something to hide the background image down the sides. Then you could try and pretend it's a forum related to work somehow.
Alfndrate
I have my browser window reduced to just show the main section pieces... the only time it looks non-work related is when I'm at the top and you can clearly see Wyrd's logo.. Also, I can't win in this wash debate... >_<
SteamHammer
Maybe it was gun Vik. Sword vik clearly has some work done on her hair. Gun Vik's looks flatter, but that could just be the photo. I can never do blonde hair well. Too subtle and it looks flat, too much and it no longer looks blonde. Alfndrate
I will double check tonight, but I could have sworn that Gun Vik has the other colors... if not, it's a 4 minute fix.
