edonil
An old card game. Four players, you deal out the deck in equal amounts and try to avoid getting points. You get points by getting the hearts and the queen of spades. ---------- Post added at 04:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:22 AM ---------- Little Nemo! I remember seeing a movie about that story.
SteamHammer
I preferred Finding Nemo though No Alp bomb, must be a post fix dreamer.

SteamHammer
Sick. The cold I thought I'd got over came back with a vengeance. No gaming or painting done all weekend. Is was fine on Friday but maybe waiting in the rain for the bus finished me off. Got lots of Borderlands 2 played and finished the Elizabeth Moon book. I've now started the Iron Jackal by Chris Wooding. Awesome so far.
edonil
What Elizabeth Moon book did you finish?
SteamHammer
Echoes of Betrayal.
edonil
Ah, that would be why I don't recognize it. I dunno, I didn't really like her fantasy...the Vatta books were fun, though.
SteamHammer
I loved the original Paksennarion books. The later ones were ok but didn't really do it for me. The Vatta books are great too. One day I'll re-read them but I've such a backlog of books it won't be any time soon.
edonil
I'm working through my backlog over the next couple weeks...now that I have some time to read other than textbooks. Finally finished Midst Toil and Tribulation. Reading Who is this Man? by John Ortberg right now.
SteamHammer
It will be months before I've got through enough books that I can buy Midst Toil and Tribulation (hereafter known as MTT) without feeling guilty at the ones still not read. edonil
You'll like it. I know I did! Gave some inspiration for some things to add to make Faulkner and company's stand at Dragon's Teeth a little more believable.
SteamHammer
I liked all the other ones in the series. Even with Weber's ever increasing ratio of thought to spoken words.
edonil
Hm. Hadn't noticed that, but you're not wrong. ---------- Post added at 05:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:17 AM ---------- That's definitely something to keep in mind for the future, to be sure. SteamHammer
I like it, a lot of authors could do with a bit more time inside their characters' heads. But he is taking it a bit too far these days as he sometimes goes around every character to get their thoughts on what just happened. So three people walking into a room and spotting a doughnut turns into fifty pages of each characters knowledge of the others, their own past and the doughnut itself. Then there's maybe a sentence or two then more thinking about what just happened.
edonil
...man. I didn't notice that at all, lol. Hm, I'll have to watch for that next book of his I go through, I'm curious if I'm just skimming over it... I know Crown of Slaves was like that, not that I remember, but that's more Eric Flint as author than Weber. So, what's the new book?
SteamHammer
The Iron Jackal by Chris Wooding. Another of the Ketty Jay books. A fun action adventure.
