Ok having actually looked at what you are meaning I would say cover it in cobbles.... ..... just kidding *grin* maybe the local hardware store has some patterned edge you could use and stain a nice brown, or alternately texture it slightly and make it look like the dirt beneath the cobbles, maybe add a sewer pipe or a root system or something?
