Scarab7664
I looking for some resin to use for casting. I want something stronger that just regular plaster. I know Micromart sells it but I heard it was kind of pricey. Does anyone know of another place the might be cheaper? Thanks, John...
TheBugKing
www.smoothon.com is where I get my resin. I am actually using a liquid plastic but it has many properties that an epoxy resin has. I think it's called Smooth Cast 300. SmoothOn won't sell direct but they have distributors all over the nation. I'm sure there is someone near Salt Lake City that could help you out. What are the properties like? Is it tougher than plastic? How difficult is it to carve after you have cast it?
TheBugKing
It's slightly tougher then plastic. The consistency most closely resembles injection molded car motor parts. When it is sanded it is rather fibrous too. It is quite easy to carve. As an experiment I carved off a sprew from the Death Jack shoulder pads I made. As a hardness benchmark, I've just cast a bunch of gears for a motorized project and they are holding up fine.

I started buying directly from them instead of going through a distributor as those close by had too many problems to continue using. http://www.smooth-on.com/p83/Welcome-To-The-Smooth-On-Webstore/pages.html Maya~
