Basically a PBEM but in this instance it would be a PBF (play-by-forum). Used to run them for years and they can be a real blast (and time eater for the DM if you let it). Look up my old 'Mere of the Dead Men' PBEM and you'll get a hint of what I'm talking about or used to run (don't have the link on me at the moment).
