Hobby Wyrd
Hey Wyrdos! This week, Waldo decided to show us his brand-new invention: shape-changing ice! He claims the cubes turning into puddles is something nobody’s ever thought of before. While we share a few laws of thermodynamics with our beloved imp, let’s take a look at a pair who also love ice and changing shapes! A Crookskin is a Mimic who never integrated with society, be it Neverborn or human. They remain at the edges of Malifaux’s old places, using hidden pathways to go about their esoteric business unseen. Crookskin Crookskins are flexible models that fit in with both Mimic/Elite and Savage. Their Unruly Ability allows them to quickly Heal up off of friendly Obeys. Hard to Wound, Stealth, and an extra Health round out their defensive package. While sturdy, the real draw of a Crookskin is their Craven Imitations Action. Since it can be used as either a Bonus Action or a normal Action, it gives the Crookskin more flexibility during its own Activation, while still being able to be used in conjunction with Obey out of Activation. It has a lot of very interesting Triggers and with the built in Heal, it is a perfect target for The Old Ways. In Savage In Savage Crookskins are a cheap way to generate Ice Pillar Markers. Craven Imitations has the Icy Display Trigger built in, which will take pressure off of the rest of the Keyword to Create Ice Pillar Markers. If there are enough Ice Pillars on the board, the Heal plus Shielded from the Defensive Reflexes Trigger makes them strong tar pits. Startle is a surprisingly useful Action in a Savage Crew as many of the simple duels in Savage target Mv. In Mimic/Elite Mimic/Elite a Crookskin’s flexibility is shown off by how they fit into different Crew builds. If a player concentrates on Obey effects, treating Craven Images as a normal Action allows a Crookskin to Heal and set up a few defensive Triggers. If a player focuses on the Staggered Condition, Crookskin models have the Stagger Bonus Action and Agony targets Mv. Finally, if a player builds a Mimic heavy Stealth Crew, a Crookskin fits in perfectly there too. Outside of this flexibility, Crookskins make very good Scheme runners. The Old Ways lets a Crookskin set up the Sneak Away Trigger and the built-in Heal on Craven Imitations negates the damage from The Old Ways. Double Walking and Sneak Away can move a Crookskin about 18 inches away. Interact, Sneak Away, and Interact is also a great way to gather a lot of Intel Tokens in Cloak and Dagger. That’s all for this week, Wyrdos! How do you think you’ll be utilizing these cool creatures? They’re in Ashes of Malifaux and remember: you can get a copy for yourself right now! We’ve also got a promotion running at the moment as well, if you’re looking to add a book to your digital collection.
