Cruel Disappointment and Blast Damage

Domin

Question

Quote

Cruel Disappointment: When a friendly model within a3 would suffer Severe damage, it suffers Moderate damage instead.

Quote

All models, except the original target, whose bases are in base contact with one or more b take damage that is one step lower than the damage suffered by the original target (e.g., if the target took Severe damage, the b will do Moderate damage).

So the question is: if Titania or another model under her aura is struck by an attack with multiple blasts, like 2|3+Blast|4+2xBlasts and an opponent flips Severe damage - what will happen?

1. The opponent will place 1 blast marker (as for Moderate Damage),
2. The opponent will place 2 blast markers (as for Severe Damage), but the original target will suffer moderate and hitted by blast - weak.

If the attack targets the model with Cruel Disappointments, then Cruel Disappointments changes the result of the damage flip from Severe to Moderate.  If the attack doesn't target that model, then it doesn't do anything (the secondary targets never take severe damage anyway).

Note that paragraphs two and three of the Blasts rules talk about the damage step suffered by the original target.  That's why their damage step is reduced, instead of being the unmodified result; and why the original flip doesn't determine the number of blasts.

If your damage track was 2/3:blast/4:blast:blastand you flip Severe, that gets reduced to Moderate.  So target suffers 3, you place one blast marker, and the secondary models suffer 2 damage.
