Base Size and Customing Ruling

Wartoy

Question

Hello all,

When it comes to custom bases used in tournaments....  Does the entire base, including all display and modeling work, have to be round within the base's edges or just as long as the actual base need to be round, not including the display material and modeling is on top of.  In other words can the slab of slate extend slightly over the edge of the round base?

Do you know how many models (in the pose they're designed to built in) in Malifaux extend significantly past the edges of their bases?

One important thing to keep in mind when basing your models is that measurement between models is performed from the edge of the base to the edge of the base, so it's really, really important to be able to tell where the edge of your models bases are.  Having basing material or edging extend outside of the defined diameter for your model is just a minor inconvenience as long as both players can clearly determine where the defined diameter ends.

As Wyrd *produces* models that don't fit on their base, I don't see how it can penalize you for making bases that extend beyond the base. I tend to make tall bases from layers of cork that still allow for the base to be measured to, but also also act as platforms for larger models.
